We will be going on the Viva Italia ABD tour in July and are arriving in Rome a few days early. Does anyone have recommendations for Pompeii day trips and Rome at night tours? Thanks!

Darkrome.com and walksofitaly.com have good options. And try viator.com

I'm using these sites to help myself plan.

My daughter and I took a long day trip of Pompeii and the Amalfi coast from Rome with Avventure Bellissime that was very good. We also used Walks of Italy for two tours including the Crypts, Bones and Catacombs tour. I thought the guides and owners of Walks of Italy were more professional and friendly. It looks like Walks of Italy also runs a similar trip to Pompeii and the Amalfi coast. I can't imagine going to Italy and not seeing Pompeii.

We are using the Your Tour in Italy group for both a day tour to Pompeii and a night tour of Rome. Prices seem high, but comparable to other guided tours I have seen. They come highly recommended by Pete as I saw in one of the podcasts about the Dreams Unlimited Viva Italia trip. We're going to be on the July 23-31 adventure this summer.

I was also thinking of the Pompeii and Amalfi Coast tour. I will check out Avventure Bellissime and Walks of Italy - thanks!

I will look into that night tour. We are on the July 2-10 adventure.

My husband and I took a day trip to Pompeii using City Wonders. One of the highlights of our last Italy trip.

If you enjoy food and wine, I'd highly recommend a twilight tour of the Trastevere section of Rome. Before the ABD Viva Italia tour in September we got in a couple of days early and one of our fellow adventurers had made the arrangements for a large group of us to do this. In addition to the food/wine you also get some good insights into a very, very old part of Rome. We actually walked across a bridge that Julius Cesar walked on. We had a wine tasting in a wine cellar that dated back to 100BC. Here's a link to the tour: http://www.eatingitalyfoodtours.com/twilight-trastevere-food-tour/

I recently went to Philadelphia and took a couple of tours with a company called Urban Adventures. They do tours all over the world, including Rome. I had a fantastic time on the 2 Philly tours I did and the customer service was awesome. I would recommend you check them out for a tour! They do a Trastevere tour, which is a neighborhood right near the Roman Hotel and an area you don't otherwise see on the ABD. Urban Adventures also does a more general food and gelato tour that might be worth looking into.

A bunch of us from the Allears Viva Italia tour in September are doing the Twilight Trastevere Food tasting tour. It looks like fun (though Jetlag may be a problem) Check out Show No Fear's
trip report for photos etc.

Yes I am here! I just came from the private vatican tour tonight! My guides are Troy and Marco B.

No time for Trastevere.

I'm sure the tour was amazing. Is it just the ABD group inside? I remember going through the Sistine Chapel on the normal tour and it's like being at the Magic Kingdom at capacity.

Yes, it is just the ABD group. Period. In the museum, in the chapel. There's a guard in front of you, opening the door. Another guard follows the group and shuts the doors. Amazing!
