Disney's BOARDWALK INN Information & Questions

Got an email yesterday saying we might be able to skip check-in when we get there. I'm hoping so because we're going to be exhausted from the flight and will want to just get to the room and go check out the boardwalk! So close! 5 days!!
Please let us know how it worked out for you.

Have a great trip!

Upon checking in, are there luggage carts for our own use or do we have to use the bellhops? We've never stayed deluxe at Disney before. I actually prefer to do it myself.

I believe that, at the Deluxe resorts, the bellhops have exclusive use of the luggage carts. We typically handle our own luggage -- but we travel with one carry on and one checked bag each. I do use bell services for our Garden Grocer order and when I'm traveling with my mom (as she needs the extra help).

Why, of course:rolleyes2…First the pool, now this, for the next 1.5 years potentially. But, on the bright side, they're adding some new amenities. As an owner, how do you feel about adding more DVC?

More amenities at WL would be nice (and they really need to change the Roaring Forks ordering/cooking layout), but if the construction is anywhere near as intrusive as the Poly, I'd be worried, too.

As a DVC owner, building more is always a good thing in many ways. First, it gives more options to stay. We'll never blow those points for the bungalows at the Poly or the similar ones (whatever people are calling them) at WL, but a studio at Poly may be possible for a short stay, though we prefer 1BR. Secondly, whenever they build something new, they raise the price per point, which would sound bad, but also keeps the resale value high. We have NO plans on selling, but we've done 4 or 5 8-day 1BR stays already on our BW contract (including one at BLT), and can still sell it for more than what we paid for it on resale! Of course we have the annual dues, but they're WAY lower than a regular room stay would be. So it's been a big win for us.

Completely unrelated to that, we have a one night stay at the BW planned for September before our cruise on the Disney Fantasy. We booked it just to get there the day early and not miss the ship, and we were just planning to go to YS for dinner and enjoy the room. But we just saw that David Cook (past American Idol winner) is going to be at Epcot the one night we're at BWV! Perfect timing. We'll put our annual passes to good use. We've paid to see him in the NY/NJ area four times in concert already, so a "free" concert while we happen to be there is a nice bonus!

If Tess isn't a DVC member, she likely rented points from a DVC member. If you are reserving through Disney, you will receive housekeeping just like if you were staying at BWI. We've stayed at BWV a few times, through Disney, and had excellent housekeeping. No worries!

That is correct Sandi--we rented a friend's DVC points and did not pay to have daily Mousekeeping. :)

Notice of Commencement just filed for "CONSTRUCTION - 4TH FLOOR CONCIERGE LOUNGE." I don't know what they might be doing this time that involves "construction." The Innkeeper's Club was last rehabbed during the BWI room rehab of 2014. There has been talk of adding a refrigerator, though I don't know that that would be considered "construction" and be permitted as such, but maybe the electrical aspect of it would, however, those are usually labeled "electrical."

The contractor has worked on many WDW projects. PHOTOS HERE.

About the contractor:

"What do we do?" is a question that we frequently are asked.

"Everything" is typically the one word response that encompasses our areas of experience in commercial, marine, residential and Themed Entertainment projects. One word, however, is neither capable of portraying the variety of projects we have constructed, nor does it convey our desire to complete projects with quality workmanship, integrity, and professionalism.

We also provide a full range of concrete services including, decorative, textured, themed, colored, exposed aggregate, rock salt and art directives.

That is very interesting. I remember reading about the lounge not being done the way they wanted the first time so maybe they are redoing it now.

Can't wait to find out exactly what they are doing.

Thanks for posting the info.

We also received the email about not having to stop by the check-in desk for our trip that begins next Tuesday--they'd simply text when the room is ready and we just can stow our carry-ons right away to head to MK even earlier! We'll see how it goes.

When will the construction start? I'll be there one month from tomorrow.

You're welcome, mexi.

About half the time, you'll receive a text when you're room is ready asking you to come to the front desk. This last happened to us at CR in March. First text told us that the room wasn't ready, about 30 minutes prior to our arrival time estimate. But, next text, hours later, didn't give us the room number and instead said to come to the front desk. When we did, we were given the room number and no explanation as to why we needed to come to the front desk so I asked a manager. He told us that about half the time, that text is sent by mistake. No other explanation was given.

When will the construction start? I'll be there one month from tomorrow.

I don't have a start date, however, usually work begins shortly after a NoC is filed. I would expect the work to start in June, but this is just my best guess.

I'm pondering a switch here from WL due to construction rumours. On the WDW site it advises that self-parking is very limited and you might have to pay for valet parking. Can anybody comment on this? Would it be difficult to self-park?

I believe the limited self-parking is due to the staging of construction equipment associated with the BWV rehab, but this hasn't been verified so it's just a supposition. I don't know how much space the equipment, etc... is taking up and if it's still fairly easy to self-park, but maybe someone who has done it recently will post about their experience. I'll look and see if I can find some overhead imagery showing how much space is available in the self-parking lot.

This imagery is from 2/18/15, the most recent layer I could access. It shows a blocked-off area in the back of the self-parking lot with what appears to be some equipment. From this, it looks like there's plenty of parking available, but I don't know if this is representative of what it looks like right now…or in the future.

I think most of that vacant parking is the valet parking lot, not the self parking lot. They really need to reduce the amount of valet parking or move it to the other side, closer to the convention center.

Got a text around 11am this morning that our room was ready and what our number is. Looks like we're on the 4th floor.

However our flight is still an hour away so we don't get to enjoy our room until many hours from now.

You're almost there!! Some of the 4th floor are Club Level rooms;). Just curious, what arrival estimate did you put? We didn't get our first text until 30 minutes prior to our arrival estimate, but our room wasn't ready.

Happy landings!

My estimate was for 8pm tonight. I was extremely surprised to get our room number so early. We didn't get a club level room lol maybe pixie dust for our honeymoon??? I doubt it but it'd be a pleasant surprise.

That would be a great surprise! I assume you did note that it was your Disneymoon? I'm glad you already know that your room is ready for you when you arrive. It's great going right to your room and getting settled before venturing out.

pixiedust: Trying to send some extra pixie dust your way for the potential upgrade! Either way, enjoy your honeymoon!!

No upgrade and we got an unrenovated villa. It's perfect. Had dinner at Big River Grill and now it's time to relax because tomorrow is a full day at Magic Kingdom!!!
