Universal advice needed :)

We never have - we were told to just show a room key.
I have a feeling that WWoHP is excluded from every offer/discount ever, so I'd be ready to cough up for the wands.

Oh well, it's good to know. I might email the hotel and ask - Kath - thanks.

I suspect you are right about the HP merch!! Although I have read about people using their AA cards (with a temp AAA card) successfully for HP merch, but that was before this supposed 'change'!

I didn't know about any hotel discount so paid for dd's 2 interactive wands. We bought one then 2nd time in ollivanders a wand 'chose' her. She does play with them at home with her friend and they will be coming back with us this year.

as I said, it's not a hotel perk, it's a vacations package perk.

the unlimited expresses, for example, are offered regardless of who you book through (hotel perk), the dining/merc discounts and other perks that are sometimes offered are package based (and only available when booking a package)

I know Universal can sometimes be as inconsistent as Disney and allow guests to use a benefit they're not entitled to (because CMs/TMs are not willing/able to check if the guest is eligible, even though the pacakge base should be printed as a code on your room key for the TM to see) but this is not supposed to be offered to all of the guests.

the 10% for a purchase of $50 or more is not an onsite/partner hotel perk

you might get offers, at stores, where you get a $5 gift card with every $50 you spend. (this means you need to make another purchase to redeem)
This may not always be offered, this may not be offered at every store, some items might be excluded, and offer value may change (bottomline, you'll only know when you get there. For each DISer there will be another story of what offers they got, at the time they went)

the only way to get 10% off merchandise is to get a preferred or premier AP.

Oh well, it's only a few dollars. Thanks. Looking forward to seeing the wands in action :)

But remember that it's just like ADRs, never lose hope :p

you never know what will be offered at the time of your visit. You'll only know once you're in the store. And don't be afraid to ask "hey, do I get any discount with my room key ?" worst case scenario, you get a weird look and you're told "no". But there is always a chance ;)

We have never booked a vacations package and have always been able to access this discount by booking a Universal Partner Hotel. IIRC this year it involved collecting a voucher booklet. But you certainly do not have to book through Universal - you can book through whoever you wish. It would be odd if the onsite hotels then did not offer this but stranger things have happened.

Don't misunderstand me, I'm not arguing about what you received or anything, I'm merely trying to explore all possibilities, in order to determine if there is a hidden perk (selfishly hoping to use it for myself :p )

you mention a booklet. This is available to any multi-day ticket bearer and is not related to any hotel stay (onsite or partner) and that might be why it's offered on the vacations page (package means tickets)

is that the kind of thing you received ?

or is it still another benefit we could all benefit of ?

No, it wasn't that booklet. I didn't take a good look because we weren't spending $50 on merchandise but it was listed in the lobby of the hotel and on the hotel website too. It's always been 10% off $50+ - we have stayed at a couple of Partner Hotels; the coupon thing seems to be new as previously a room key sufficed. The only perk of partner hotels that is only available if you buy the package through Universal is early entry - and we were told this explicitly at check in.

Well I'm staying at HRH so I will wave my room card in front of them and try and look convincing for a 10% discount! I will report back.

Me too - although I'm at RPR. It's worth a try as $10 off is great - every little helps (and means more for my cocktail fund!)!! ;-)
