taxi service when leaving the parks

How easy is it to grab a taxi at park closing? Hoping to do this at least a couple of nights in order to get back faster. Staying at POR. Thanks for any advice.
(Fyi. I posted this on the "point A to point B" thread and no one responded) :rolleyes1

I am also interested in this info. We often get a taxi to go to a park or resort in the morning before the buses can get us there in time for a ressie, but have not used them to go back. In the morning, we call and have one waiting by the time we get to the front of the resort. Hoping it is the same when leaving a park.

I always forget to look. Last trip, we used a taxi each morning to get to the parks. A little spendy, but ended up being worth it to save our feet. We were staying at the Dolphin and the thought of walking all the way to the Intl Gateway, and then all the way to Test Track....and then all day long...was a little daunting for my father. So we cabbed it to the front of Epcot. Crazy when we were staying "walking distance to the park"!

We never did end up taking cabs back to the resorts though. Time and walking issues were fairly minimal then and we would just wait for a bus.

I'm curious too. I would imagine requesting an Uber car would work really easily.

Note that you can't get a cab from the actual MK entrance. One would have to boat or monorail to the TTC, or monorail or walk to the Contemporary to get a cab.

Taxi stand for MK is at the TTC. It used to be on the right side near the Poly and tram area but I don't know if it's moved after the renovations to the TTC.

All other parks, taxi stands are walking distance from the exits.

It is very easy to get taxis at WDW. As was pointed out, the Magic Kingdom has them at the TTC. Or you can walk to the Contemporary and grab one there.

I saw another post on here regarding this but it's from last year so wanted to bring it back up again. Have you considered using Uber? I've never used it at WDW (I plan to on a trip later in the year) but I use the service VERY frequently in Chicago where I live. Nearly everyday. They have bad press here and there but I've always had steller customer service- sometimes they've even reached out to me and me not to them- when I've had any type of issue at all. (They've all been very, very minor. Like the driver taking a weird route- they refunded me partially for the ride. The car smelling weird- gave me a future credit to use, etc.)

From what I've gathered from social media, Uber at WDW is a very good option. It's an app on your phone and no money changes hands and any issues at all you can report to uber and they will rectify. I've had terrible experience with cabs in general and the cabs at WDW are way too expensive (compared to the taxi prices in Chicago). I paid $17 for a ride from AK Lodge to Beach Club Resort for a breakfast and then $18 back. The only thing to note is that you can't get an uber to pick you up from the airport. Some people find workarounds, I've read, but I'll likely just take the Magical Express.

Has anyone recently utilized Uber at WDW that can share their experience??

I haven't used Uber at WDW, but have at Universal. Had very decent service both times. Since my last 2 experiences at WDW with horrible Mears taxi drivers (called using their app to save money instead of using the pricey hotel town cars), I will happily use Uber from now on.

Hi!
I'm also curious. I'm staying off property with my family on my next trip and I'll be taking my brother to the MK while my parents are enjoying a Rolling Stones concert. What is more convenient. Taking the ferry/monorail to the TTC to get a taxi from the stand, or walking to the Contemporary and getting a cab from there? We're planning to leave at closing, and I definitely want to do whatever's the most simple. (Also, is the taxi stand easy to locate in the TTC?)

Walking is going to be much easier and quicker. There'll be hundreds of other people wanting to get on the ferry or monorail at closing.

If you don't want to walk, you can take the resort monorail to the Contemporary.. the line for the resort monorail is usually WAY shorter. Plus, you get to ride the monorail!

I'm not familiar with Uber. I've seen it mentioned here several times. So, you say it's cheaper than Mears Taxis? That would be nice. Some of the fare estimates are over $20 from a park back to POR. That seems a little steep. Thanks for the advice

It is a "ride sharing" app. You have to have a smartphone to use it and download an app (you can check price quotes etc on a desktop). If you ask anyone who is an uber member, we all have referral codes so you can get $20 off your first ride (and the referrer also gets $20).

There's usually uber drivers hanging around the property. You plug in your destination on the app and it will give you a fare estimate (a range from lowest to highest). If you are fine with it, you request a driver. Drivers can see it on their phones and the one who accepts it will start driving to your location. through the app, they have your cell number and will sometimes text/call you to confirm pick up point. On your end, you can see their name, model of their car, and license plate number. Because their cars are not always marked, I just walk up and confirm who they are by name.

I have had all good experiences with uber drivers. All cars have been clean. All have been friendly and open to chatting if we initiate it (only one didn't talk much - but his English was very bad). Prices are decent, slightly cheaper than Mears I think. I quoted Epcot to POR and got the following fare estimates: uberX: $5-8 (the value option) uberXL: $11-14 (vans/SUVs to fit more than 4 ppl) UberSELECT: $13-17 (luxury cars). You may have to wait, depending on where the cars are and how bad the traffic is. Usually I wait 2-3 minutes, sometimes up to 10 minutes. You can watch your driver's progress on the app (my kids LOVE this!). If you don't like any of the options or the wait is too long, you just walk off and look for a regular taxi (you can't lose).

Like I said, my two experiences with Mears cabs in WDW (called using the Mears app) were awful. In one, the driver did not like where I wanted to go (the outlet mall) and threw a fit the entire 20 min journey, grumbling loudly to us (and then to his friend on his cell). It was dreadful. The second round, the driver came and refused to take us where we wanted to go (a very short ride to Epcot). We gave up and never used Mears again. We have used the town cars at our resort and they were great, but super expensive.

Wow. Great review. Thank you !
I do not know any one who is a Uber member. I'd love for you to refer me! If you'd like to do that and need more info from me, just email me. Paigemitchell859@gmail.com

You're welcome - glad I could help. I have become a big fan of Uber since I started using it. Best of all, it's all done using my CC on my phone app. I don't have to worry about carrying enough cash, calculating the tip, etc.

I sent you an email as requested :)

Keep in mind that with Uber, if they are busy, the rates go up. So if they are in high demand when you want them, the cost will reflect that. It won't be a simple you go so many miles so you pay X.

YES. This is important to remember. Uber makes it very obvious there is surge pricing, though, it would be hard to miss. (They make you physically enter on your keyboard to confirm you understand the surge pricing amount. I mention this because most of their bad press/complaints are in regards to surge pricing and I don't know how anyone could not know before requesting that the prices will be higher.) If you're requesting one at busy times (like after Wishes) you will likely come across surge pricing. But you can make your decision from there. I usually don't give it a second thought if surge pricing is under 1.7, but after that and closer to 2.0 I'll make sure to calculate it in my head first and determine if I'm willing to pay. (I've seen it as high as 4.0 which is 4 times the fare amount. But that was not at WDW, that was in the city on a very bad weather day in which no one could adequately walk.) You can also request that they let you know if surge pricing ends in the next 30 minutes.
