Marathon Weekend 2016

My form never really felt bad but I knew it needed work. What I eventually learned is that it isnt where it needed to be. Much better now I just thought I was closer to where I wanted it to be. I started using a metronome set to 180 to try and keep myself on pace.

I do the exact same thing! I took a running form course at a local running store & the coach advised this would help keep me from over striding & heel striking. It's been a lifesaver.

Today I learned a lesson in checking the weather. Just because its not hot doesn't mean its not humid (its currently 60 something out and 77 percent humidity, yeah training in England). Lesson learned after some chafing issues. On the bright side I will get to train for the humidity at FL and the usual August DL race. Which I'll admit is going to be useful with my last runs before Dopey being here since I'm doing Christmas here. Even if I cant train for the heat here one out of two isn't bad.

Booked the hotel last night (POFQ as always, and after last year we now know what building we like). Now to just get back in the swing of things after international travel and a stomach bug, again (I got sick twice in April with a bug, I must have missed at least a week and half of training in the last two months because of this).

I finally did it and just registered for the full. This will be my first full marathon and I am excited but slightly terrified.

You will love it. This past January I did my first full at Disney and part of the 10th anniversary Goofy. Trust in the training you do and enjoy it as you go. Don't try and go crazy in speed. Keep it steady. I enjoyed the chocolate at mile 23. Ok, I enjoyed quite a bit of chocolate.

Outside of bringing what you prefer for your energy consumption, if you wear glasses bring a hat. When it started to rain I could not see out thru the droplets remaining on my glasses.

I have signed up for my second marathon to be at Disney. There could be a pattern developing here :lmao:

The Disney full is my favorite race anywhere,it's also become like second nature for me,it's like I know every inch of the course and know everything that's coming, that along with all the characters, food stops, spectators and unique features the race offers like getting the chance to ride Everest and this race becomes easier every year.I however have never done a full outside Disney and I'm signed up for the Space Coast full and running that distance outside Disney quite frankly has me as a previous poster mentioned "slightly terrified". We'll see how it goes but I just hope those 26.2 don't feel like they go on forever,at WDW it truly feels like its shorter every year I run it,but I run other races like the Miami half and when it comes time to turn left to finish I'm happy that I didn't sign up for the full and have to keep going straight for another 13.1 miles.

The only issue you'll have with Space Coast is mental. The course has out and back sections, and it can sometimes be mentally tough seeing people running back at you knowing that you still have a ways to go to the turnaround point. Other than that, it's a flat and fast course with really nice scenery.

I know the feeling! This will be my first marathon too and at first I couldn't even tell anyone I signed up without feeling like I was going to throw up! ;)

I feel the same way every time I pay for these runDisney events!
(Yet I keep doing them over and over and over) :confused3

For those who have just signed up for their first marathon - tell EVERYONE! You will train harder if you put yourself out there like that. Everyone will ask you how you did and want to congratulate you after the race.

Talk about added motivation to get out the door...

I totally agree with this im pretty sure most people are sick of me talking about running but it helps hold me accountable when people ask about it

THIS! x10000.

A lot of my closest friends live in different places, so the easiest way to keep up with all of them is via social media. It pains me to do it, but I post every race I register online so I know they'll ask me about training to keep me accountable.

In person, or in text message, those that aren't familiar have asked what exactly "Dopey" is. When I tell them, they tell me I've lost my mind. But they are now always asking how my training is going, when my next race is, if I need someone to go on a run with, etc.

It's been a pretty awesome accountability tool.

Isn't this run just after the W&D half? I went the other direction. Signed up for the Cocoa Beach Half. I want the I Dream of Jeannie bottle medal.

A couple of friends were talking about running the Space Coast. Might do that next year.

It's 3 weeks later on Nov. 29th.After this one I'll shut it down except for some shorter runs until the Disney full.

I'm doing the Cocoa Half (need that bottle medal in my life) and also Space Coast Half because I'm a bit of a NASA nerd. Then no other big races before marathon weekend for my first full.

What's going to devastate me is not being able to sign up for Star Wars Half after running it this year, but I don't think my pocketbook or legs could take it after Dopey the weekend before. [self-pitying sigh]
