Hi everyone. We will be headed to WDW in Dec. for my sons first trip. He will be 13 months. We will be staying in a DVC 1 bedroom. What did you all do in terms of baby proofing? Did you do anything or just watch them?bring a playmat or just let them be in the pnp? I feel like he will want to stretch his legs and the rooms seems to be a good place because he will be just learning or a new walker. Any suggestions? Thanks!

You can bring along your own outlet covers, but you won't want to use any tape or other devices to keep the cabinets closed and secured. Depending on the resort you are staying in, there will be lots of places you won't want him to go. Plus table corners, low televisions, etc that he can get into and maybe hurt himself. Basically, you'll need to keep an eagle eye on him if you want him to be able to wander around the villa.

We didn't really do anything at that age, just watched them. The room is not that big, they can't really get far out of your sight. No play mat, by that age he will be crawling or walking all over the place. I took two crawlers to WDW and just had to get over the idea of them crawling all around.

We had an 11 month at Disney just after she started walking. We didn't pay any attention to baby proofing... Usually most hotel outlets are covered with furniture, maybe bring a couple extras if he is showing interest in them.

But, there's no stair and the floor plans are pretty open, and it's easy to keep an eye on the little ones if you close all the doors.

There will be knives in the kitchen but you can always just move them to where the baby can't reach them. Other then that you should be okay.

We always traveled with a small container of "baby proofing" items. Outlet covers, twist ties (to secure cords or cables out of the way), a few rubber bands, and some large safety pins. With all the travel my family does, we used all of those things at one time or another.

zip ties are pretty handy to secure things as needed. Just have a pair of scissors to cut off when you leave. Sometimes you might want to move lamps or other breakable items to a safer location.Be sure medications etc or out of reach as well.

We didn't do any baby proofing for our 13mo. He did great in the room and was able to stretch his legs without worrying. He also was only crawling at the time so he got into everything without us having to worry.

We took our son to Disneyland for his 1st birthday and didn't do any babyproofing. We did borrow a pack and play, so there was a safe place to put him down if DH and I were both getting ready or something like that. Other than that, we just kept a close eye on him. I think not having to pack a bunch of babyproofing stuff was work the little bit of extra work.

Thank you for all the suggestions! He is 7 months and starting to crawl (on his knees and hop) so he may walk by 13 mos but I know it is hard to tell. I will bring covers and ties just in case but I think as Deb & Bill said we will need to keep an eye or have him in the pnp.

We just got back from our trip with our 10 mo old. She was just learning to walk. We didn't babyproof we just watched her. When we couldn't watch her closely (we were all getting ready), we made her stay in the PnP.

FWIW, both my kids started walking at 10 months so you never know. You may have a really good walker by 13 months.

Travelled quite a few times with small toddlers in DVC villas. The only baby proofing we did was move the knives out of the drawer into a higher cabinet and unhooked the phones since we don't use them anyway. I also did a quick spin through the room when we got there to make sure the housekeepers didn't miss anything under the bed or a dropped pill or something. You would be surprised how often we find stuff. But other than that I don't really baby proof much.

The only thing we did was unplug the phones that we couldn't reposition out of our twins' reach. Other than that our 2 bedroom DVC was surprisingly safe (BLT).

I pretty much have something plugged into the outlets that are accessible:) We did have a blanket to put on the floor because those carpets are usually pretty dirty. We always try to make sure everyone wheres slippers or socks when in the room.
