Using an adult TS credit for a child?

We are going during free dining, and on the last day of our stay, my husband is planning to take our oldest to Universal. It leaves me with 3 adult and 1 child TS credits for that last night. My plan is to use these to take the youngest to Cinderella's Royal Table (yes, I already have an ADR). I know I can use 2 adult TS credits for myself, my concern is if I can combine 1 adult and 1 child TS credit to make the 2 child TS credits we will need for my daughter. I can see the difficulty trying to go the other way, but this should work, right?

That is disappointing. I can see how you wouldn't be able to use a child credit for an adult, but I don't see why I couldn't go the other way. Oh well. Back to the drawing board I suppose.

Just use the adult credits and pay OOP for the child.

They're just separate credits, so you can't combine. Just the way it goes. You could use the remaining credits for a QS later if you want.

Why don't you juggle your credits in another TS meal. i.e. if you are having dinner at 50s Prime Time....order your DD an adult's meal instead of a child's meal. That will leave you with 2 child credits and 2 adult credits for your Cinderella meal.

You can use your credits in any order or combination you want (that's why sharing meals and stretching our credits work so well for us). The credits are in a bucket for you to use for your entire trip until your checkout day.

I hadn't thought to do that. That is a good idea. I will have to peruse the menus and see which ADR has an adult meal she would prefer over a kids meal. I wonder too, if we could do that for a buffet...give her the adult buffet instead of the kids. Thanks for the thought!

I would imagine you might be able to do it for a buffet - but a little chancy since it depends on your server following your instructions (and being willing to do so). Would probably be much easier at a regular non-buffet TS. The rest of you can also "help" her finish her meal :)

Also a possibility you can ask for an adult sized portion of a kids meal.

There's no reason to do that at a buffet. Kids aren't restricted to any particular section at a buffet.

Sounds like she's worried there may not be an adult option her kid may like at any of the TS places they have chosen. She's not too worried about maximizing her credit - just wants to be able to use it for CRT.

Yeah. The little one is quite a picky eater. I appreciate the help, and I'm sure I will make it work. This is our first trip in 8 years (2nd ever) and there is so much more pre-planning I am finding I need to do this time. :)

If the entire family is together, I doubt you will be able to use 4 adult credits at one time anyway. Your MB will say you have 3 adults and 1 child, and that's what they will deduct.

If you still want to do CRT, pay OOP for a KID's TS meal that she will like at one of your a la carte places. They're usually only $10. That will give you the two kid's TS credits you need for CRT. You don't want to pay OOP for her CRT meal as it is very expensive and a great use of kid's credits.

But one leftover adult credit. Still, worth doing if you get a server who won't/can't process 4 adult credits at one meal (I would just ask them to process it in 2 transactions - one for DH and older kid, and one for OP and DD...that way no issues with magic band having a problem with the transaction).

True. I just think where there is smoke there is fire on this one. Here is another couple of articles in case anyone is interested: http://blog.touringplans.com/2015/05/29/changes-coming-to-the-disney-dining-plan-beginning-may-31/

Yeah, but I think those all came after this stuff originated in Reddit.

It'd be great if it's all true. I'm just not believing anything until it's verified.

Even if the changes are true, it doesn't help the OP. It is only the QS credits that might be mingled together. TS credits will still be separated and OP will not have enough to do what they want.
