Word of warning if ordering online with Hobby Lobby

I bought some candles the other week from Hobby Lobby online because the were offering free shipping. And I got a mirror as well. The candles didn't work with my decor so I tried to take them back to the store. Found out they did not take online returns! :scared:What!!!

They said I would have to mail them back and I would have to pay shipping. I don't think so. So I am just going to return them without a receipt and get a gift card for the value in return. They were on sale, so I didn't pay full price for them, so I will get back what I paid for them. But I will never ever order anything online from Hobby Lobby again. But that won't stop me from forking over the moolah to them in the stores!

Thanks for the warning. You would assume a big box store takes returns from their own online store. I ordered a couple of chains for my mom's mother's day present, not knowing which would be best for a pendant she already has, from Helzberg's. I knew I wouldn't be able to get to the store before Mother's Day. I let her pick the one she wanted and took the other back to the store. They happily took it back at the store.

Do they sell these items in the stores? Though not sure how they can look them up since they refuse to use bar codes or like the stores it has a price on the product.

Could it be possible that the online store and the brick and mortar stores are not the same company? Or maybe the online store is run by an outside online retailer, like outsourced?

Years ago I noticed that the sporting goods sections of Kmart and a few other brick and mortar stores were all the same with the same pricing and the same part numbers. I'm assuming they all outsourced at least some of their online presence.

The solution is just to order from Amazon so you don't have to tolerate this nonsense.
How, exactly, do you return an Amazon purchase to a brick and mortar store? This online return wouldn't be any worse than ordering from Amazon, but most are much, much better with returns.

So you're advising anyone shopping online to verify a company's return policy, and not to just assume that merchandise bought online can be returned to stores http://www.hobbylobby.com/customer_service/online_return_policy.cfm?
Meh! I think that we've all run into instances where a store's online policies and their B&M store policies do not jive. In the early days of internet shopping, I learned the painful lesson that ToysRUS would not honor returns from ToysRUs .com. It sucked because there was no definitive declaration on their website that returns could only be made via post. I never placed another order from them online after that incident.

Amazon doesn't charge shipping on returns. The OP would have been expected to return the items to HobbyLobby .com at her own cost.

If Amazon sent you a defective product they will pay for the return shipping. If you have to return a brick a mortar store you have to pay for the gas and time to return the product to the store. To much of a hassle to buy from most brick and mortar stores any more.

Amazon will cover shipping if the problem is their fault; not if you just decide you don't like the item as did the OP.

Isn't Amazon buying some radio shack locations colocated with Sprint where I believe you could return an item?

I think they're just using those for the same-day delivery service. I don't know if they'll welcome walk-ins or offer any services other than maybe a showroom.

Amazon probably doesn't consider "doesn't go with my decor" as a defective product.

I ran into the same problem with another company a few years ago. Now I know to check the return policy before I buy anything on line.

Also, many retailers, like Sears, sell things on line from other companies. I think Penny's and Kohls do too. So you really need to check each store's return policy for on line purchases. It can even vary depending on the item you buy.

I've returned many things to amazon just because I didn't want them, they always pay shipping. Just returned two items today to the UPS drop box, they paid for the return labels. One was their fault, the other was mine...

I love Hobby Lobby, but the way that they don't barcode anything blows my mind. My guess is that they don't accept online returns in store is because it would mess up their inventory system, or lack thereof. I've never ordered online from them--I enjoy browsing in the store too much! :) But I can see how that would be annoying. I probably would have assumed the same thing about a store that has both an internet store and a brick and mortar store.
