I was just curious. I won't place any judgement on your answers, if you answer, because walking a reservation is a valid thing to do.
I knew it was poll. First day with my new brain.First of all, it's "poll" not "pole" . You can edit the subject if you want.
Yes, I have walked reservations before. Usually for AKV-Concierge over Christmas or BWV Boardwalk View over New Year's Eve. I didn't walk the BWV one this year and mom Mom died right when the 11-month window opened. I checked a few days into the window and it was sold out and *remains* sold out 4 months later. I am currently walking a Poly Lake View studio for NYE. I am aware that a Poly owner can come and take the future room from me, but I am at least in front of all the other 7-monthers.
Your poll is a bit flawed. You can only walk the reservation in no more than 7-day chunks, but you can walk those chunks as many times as you want.
You should probably have an option for never walking. I have never done so, and I think lots of others haven't either. Almost considered doing it this year. I have SSR and AKV. I made a reservation for Christmas break, Dec 19-24 for a 2 BR at SSR at 11mos. I was holding my breath about changing at 7 mos, but, fortunately, I was able to change at 7 mos to a 2 BR at AKV. The 2BR at Jambo was booked, but the one at Kidani was available, and we wanted Kidani. Had I waited, it would not have been available. I think I am selling the SSR points because up until this year, it was no problem to book what I wanted at AKV using SSR points at 7 mos. We haven't stayed at SSR since about 2006.
If you walk a reservation for the 11-month window, you block others from booking a future room. If you walk for the 7-month window you risk an owner swooping in and grabbing your future room. So, you could have walked the reservation but an AKV owner could have come in all the way until you made your reservation and booked those rooms. You should probably have an option for never walking. Well then, you're doing great .I knew it was poll. First day with my new brain.
Hon, I do own at AK; at the time I purchased SSR, there were no other options to buy, or so I was told. It was about 3 years before there were AKV, as I recall. I own at SSR. I knew I was going to take a vacation with my family the first week of Christmas break, and I didn't want to wait until the 7 mo time to book at AKV, and risk not having a place to stay. If you check availability now, today, you will find that the 2 BR villa at SSR is still available, so, I didn't keep anybody, SSR owner or otherwise from getting the reservation. Back 7 years ago, or so, I used to be able to wait until the beginning of the school year, when the calendar was published, to make a reservation either for fall break or Christmas break. Now I must guestimate when fall break or Christmas break will be. School isn't even finished this year, and our school doesn't tell us the official calendar until the end of July for next academic year. If I hadn't used the SSR points to make our winter vacation reservation, they would have gone, POOF! into DVC point heaven. I had points on my AKV contracts that could have covered the reservation, but, I needed to use the SSR points. So, my logical brain tells me that I should consider unloading the SSR points since they aren't working out the way they used to.If you walk a reservation for the 11-month window, you block others from booking a future room. I don't know why I got the "Hon" designation, but that's OK. May I call you Sweetie and we'll be even?Hon, I do own at AK; at the time I purchased SSR, there were no other options to buy, or so I was told. Yes, that's walking, one or two days early.I don't know if this is considered walking but I typically stay Saturday or Sunday to Friday. Sometimes I will book Friday to Friday and then change my arrival date. I figure it gives me a jump on the days I want. It has always worked when I had enough points to work with.
I do not need a specific room or resort bad enough to walk a reservation. I find vacationing a lot less stressful that way.
