can I upgrade tickets like this?

Here's what I'm hoping to do. I'm buying hoppers this July. Three people in my party live in LA. On the last day of our trip can I upgrade their tickets to Southern California Select Annual Passes? I know these are blacked out over the summer but I'd be upgrading them after their last entry of our trip. Somehow I can't help but think that it can't be done since Disney doesn't make any money on it (the AP costs less than the ticket) but from my understanding of the ticket rules it should be allowed. Anybody know if this is possible?

Not if the ticket costs more than the AP. You'd have to go deluxe or buy less expensive tickets.

OP, wouldn't what you describe be "downgrading" a ticket?

So if I have a 3 day ticket worth $275 then I can pay the extra $24 to get the CA AP (they're $299) but if I have a 4 day ticket worth $300 then I can't get the CA AP because the ticket is worth $1 more than the AP?

I was thinking of it as an upgrade as I'd be changing a regular ticket for an AP. I guess it could be seen as a downgrade.

UPGRADES: A Guest wishing to upgrade to a Passport from another form of eligible Theme Park admission media must upgrade on the same day in which the original form of Theme Park admission media is valid. A Guest who chooses to upgrade to a Passport from another form of eligible Theme Park admission media must choose a Passport of equal or greater value than the original Theme Park admission media retail price, and the difference in prices shall be due on the day of the upgrade. If an upgrade to a Passport is made from a multi-day ticket, the Passport will be backdated to begin on the first day that such ticket was used; if an upgrade to a Passport is made from a lower level Passport, the new Passport will have the same expiration date as the original Passport. Each guest wishing to upgrade his/her ticket media to a Passport must be present at the time of the upgrade transaction. Fully used ticket media, complimentary ticket media (except for certain promotional tickets) and ticket media stating its ineligibility for an upgrade may not be upgraded to a Passport. Upgrades are subject to Passport availability. Downgrades are not allowed.
