I saw on my facebook feed the 4th of july event for $35 pp and was wondering if any were planning on doing this or do you feel like it should be a member perk with a free admission.

Celebrate Independence Day With Disney Vacation Club!
If you’ll be celebrating America’s Independence this July at Walt Disney World Resort, you won’t want to miss an all-new event available to Members and their Guests as part of Membership Magic. Join Disney Vacation Club for a patriotic night of food, fanfare and fireworks!

Taking place at the Convention Center Porte Cochere of Disney’s Contemporary Resort on Friday, July 3, 2015 from 8 p.m. – 10 p.m., Members and their Guests can celebrate Independence Day in star-spangled style with themed games, delectable treats and special Character appearances. Special music from the Dapper Dans and the Dixieland Band will get Guests in the American spirit while enjoying hometown fair games like Milk Can Toss, Pitchers Dream and Down the Clown as they sample an array of red, white and blue desserts and a patriotic punch! (For the full event menu, click the image on the right.) End the night with a bang from the fireworks spectacle, Disney’s Celebrate America! A Fourth of July Concert in the Sky Show.

Pricing for this special event is $35.00 (plus tax & gratuity) per Adult and $22.00 (plus tax & gratuity) per Child. To make reservations, please call Member Services at (800) 800-9800.

Our family spent a 4th of July at HH one year. There was a party for all members, but the food, mostly barbecue type food, had a price. We bought the tickets, ate the food, participated in the games, and enjoyed ourselves.

If we were going to be there, I think we would pay and join the fun.

Bobbi

PS. I mentioned this to DH. He said that he had forgotten how much fun the HH party was, and he agrees, we would go to this event!

It sounds better than the (poorly reviewed) Thanksgiving and Christmas meals that they charged 2x as much as this.

I also think this sounds like an enjoyable event. Execution will be the key and hopefully it's better than the previously mentioned events at CR.

Not sure why anyone should feel this "should be a member perk with a free admission." Why would we be entitled to a free party? We bought DVC for its ability to give us larger quarters more often at lower prices, and it does exactly that. I'd also like a pony, but I don't think DVC should give it to me for free.

You are correct, but consider that during a specific month (Dec) they have done Merry Mixers for free that are similar type events. But if a member goes at a different time of the year they do not get that free event. It's not out of bounds to think that if DVC does offer free events, which they do, that they might spread it out over the year to give more owners an opportunity to partake.

use to love Jolly Holidays that was held at the CR - did not know about the Dec or thanksgiving meals - so glad I did not participate in those... but loved Jolly Holidays

will be still moving on July 4 - or I would definitely go - do you have to be staying at WDW to participate?

Free parties used to happen. Before the '05 Member Cruise they threw a party in Pleasure Island. They were also celebrating the opening of SSR, I remember waiting in line to get a 5 minute free chair massage. You got coupons for free treats, and a free admission to the Comedy Club.

Also the party at HHI on July 4th was free, the food was what we paid for. The games were hilarious!

Since Welcome Home Wednesday's are no longer, DVC has offered more paid special events then they used to. So maybe the Merry Mixers days are numbered. It could just be that DVC is now too big, or maybe they are getting too greedy.

I still would go to the party on the 3rd of July, the price is reasonable IMO.

I would pay to go if I was going to be there at that time. "free" is never really "free"....the money comes from somewhere. I, too, think "free" stuff days are limited, as a PP said there are just too many members.

Although I do enjoy the "free" cocktails on the cruises during the DVC "sell" meetings.

The "free" events come out of member dues. I went to the Merry Mixer one year and didn't want the apple cider they were serving. They had a cash bar and had cans of pop/soda sitting there. I wanted a Diet Coke so I went over. $4 for a regular can!

If the welcome home Wednesdays and other "free" member events come out of our yearly maint fees, I would rather save the money... Or I would rather they "invest" the monies into a perk everyone would enjoy, like a special super discount on park passes or free TIW one year ;), lol....

a lot of the free events were paid for by marketing - think they have decided that it is no longer necessary to sell DVC that way. One reason why there were several sales guides there.
they use to sell to current members then they would introduce it to the general public. Maybe both Grand Floridan and the Poly were sold to mostly new members????

Does anyone know the layout of the convention center? Where would they watch the fireworks from? It may be worth it for a good view of the fireworks if you don't want to go into the parks or deal with a bunch of crowds.

I'm so bummed.... We wanted to attend but I just called a few moments ago and they're sold out. :-(

I've attended a convention event that sounds similar. Tables were set up under the port cochere and then we walked out just in front of it to watch. It's not like watching from Cali Grill or TOTWL but it's pretty good.

The booking window does not open until May 28.

That's so odd. I see the 5/28 date now on the DVC website, but I called twice today and they told me they were sold out. I happened to ask one of the CMs when they sold out and she said that she sold some tickets on Sunday, so it must have sold out either late Sunday or early this morning.

Well, I guess I'll try again over the next couple of days and see what happens. Thanks for the reply! :thumbsup2
