Characterpalooza...What is going on?

You can FP+ a small handful - about 10% - of the characters that are available to meet at WDW. Meeting the rest generally involves long lines.

My point wasn't about FP+, didn't mean for it to come across that way. My point was that, for quite some time how, you've known where and when you can meet character ____ (fill in the blank). That is something that we like.

The two great things about Characterpalooza were being able to meet several characters quickly, without long lines, and being able to meet characters that do not have "set meet and greet locations" at all.

We had the bad luck of having this change hit during our trip last week. We went to Characterpalooza on Friday, May 8 and it was business as usual, although it was a bit busier than I had experienced in the past, so we met only two characters before the lines were closed. On Tuesday, May 12 we waited about 25 minutes (in the broiling sun) before we gave up. Apparently it had moved to Streets of America that day. Bummer.

To each their own, no problem with that, but we would rather go to point A to meet character B, instead of waiting in an area of HS hoping to meet character X, Y, Z and more :) hoping that you liked which characters showed up.

My trip plans were made completely around allowing myself 2 Characterpaloozas and MK's evening EMH. I'm BUMMED! The hours changed, no Characterpalooza, no Incredibles, FW East and West under construction, the one morning that was best for BOG breakfast changed hours evening EMH from 10-12 to 12-2 the night before...my plans are pretty much useless.

I'm not going to chase them around. I want to maximize my time and minimize running all over the park. I, in general, don't like the layout of DHS and the shows don't leave enough space to go from to the next.

If it weren't for TSMM, Star Tours, and JTA I would skip DHS. But those are all high priority but I really do not enjoy that park.

I have no problem with Disney changing things. I do have a problem with having to book everything so far out and then them changing so much. I have become less and less excited and kind of sad at some points about this trip. I know I'll have fun, but I really want that excitement back.

When it gets so crowded that the situation becomes dangerous it ceases to be enjoyable. It was always meant to be an unplanned "surprise" for guests. Unfortunately, thanks to KtP, EVERYONE knows about it. When you have rare characters out for only a 20 minute set there are going to be a lot of angry people who don't make it to the front of the line in time. Guest relations was getting sick of the complaints and the exit to ToT was jammed with people.

However...I do not agree with randomly placing them all over the park. That's just stupid. They really should have a rotation of rare characters meeting throughout the day in the animation building with the others regular M&Gs. Keep the M&Gs in there so it can be controlled and everyone gets a chance to meet them.

Kenny the Pirate isn't the sole source, or even a catalyst, of why "EVERYONE" knows about it. I've known about it for a long time and have not read one article from Kenny the Pirate. There are various sources on the internet, as well as inside. I first found out through several cast members, and I've read plenty of blogs that go into broad detail of what Characterpalooza is, offering tips and what times to be there to see which characters, before Kenny the Pirate even existed. Why shouldn't they be considered as a valid connection as well? I think its a little grotesque and misguided to "thank" Kenny the Pirate for this.

Also, you mentioned, and I quote, that it was almost meant to be an unplanned "surprise" for guests. But then you contradict yourself by saying you think it's stupid to randomly place them all over the park. Wouldn't randomly placing them all over the park at cetain times be a random surprise for guests and alleviate the jam packed lines and reform the amazement of characterpalooza?

Bummer, I was hoping that we'd get lucky during Characterpalooza and meet Mulan so that we didn't have to try and squeeze Epcot into an already packed itinerary for our next trip.

Did I touch a nerve?
LOL...

So which character blog do you write for? :tiptoe:

On sww it has happened twice now at approx 610 at tot gates.

For SWW, TOT is going to be the only location because the other possible ones are being used for SWW stuff. It's during the week that making a prediction of the location becomes problematic.

I agree. We/our kids our hugely into characters they want to meet everyone from every movie (seriously Disney if you could do a meet and greet with Scuttle you would be doing a serious solid for DD3)
I personally don't want to randomly hope we run into character x I want to know where and when to meet them so we can be there, whether that is a meet and greet, a meal or tour with m&g then I can make it work.
Tom Staggs stated that the reason behind FP+ was because guests trips were mission orientated and there measure of success was whether or not they achieved that. I think to some measure he has a point, for my kids while the rides are fun their trip bucket lists are about who to meet.

As far as CP-it was so popular because people want to meet more of a range of characters. I don't see the point in making so many so rare. Look at the character meals so many of them are the same characters again and again-and no disrespect to chip and dale (I do love them) but I don't get why they are everywhere?
Why don't they have a Villians meal? Why are the princesses so similar between CRT and ARB? There is what 10 of them? Why is the AK character meal not include Pochanhotas/Tarzan/Jungle Book? Imagine a nemo or Little mermaid meal at Coral Reef? What about a Pixar meal?
