Can you upgrade regualr park tickets to an DVC AP while on site ? What is the difference in cost?

yes. cost difference depends on how much you paid for that particular ticket and current price of DVC AP.

Not entirely accurate. As long as you use the ticket once, you'll get credit for the gate price when you do the upgrade. That might be more than what you paid. Unless you bought the tickets (and just the tickets) directly from Disney; then you get credit for the price you paid.

exactly what i wrote.

That part. But if the op bought the tickets with a package or from elsewhere, if the op uses them at least one day then she can get the ticket price-bridged, which means she might not end up paying the full price for the DVC ap. That's the "not entirely accurate" part, in that the upgrade doesn't always start with what you paid.

We just did this. If you buy from someplace like undercover tourist just use the ticket for an entry and it will get the current gate value and it won't matter when you bought or what you paid for that ticket. The amount we paid when doing the upgrade was the amount of the DVC AP less the current gate value of the ticket we were using.

What about using a ticket from UCT towards an AP renewal???
I posted on the Budget Board the scenario of buying a 4-day PH/WFPM ticket from UCT (saving around $30 off gate price) and then using it once and applying it towards an AP renewal. Is that possible?

Yes.

Just so I'm understanding, if one buys a 4-day ticket from UTC et al with the intention of upgrading to a DVC AP when onsite, that person could only make FastPass reservations for those 4 days that are linked to the tickets, correct? So it may not be a great option for a longer stay?

Yes. But it can be any 4 days so you could pick the ones that might have the difficult to book FP's and wait on the other days. Also, you just want to buy a ticket that has the greatest discount and costs less than the AP. That might actually be one that has more days than you need.

That's great advice, thank you! I didn't even think of being able to book four days but over the whole ten day trip...I always have it in my head that they have to be consecutive!

How does AP affect your ability to book FP?

It varies depending on if you are staying onsite or off.

You can book 30 days in advance if off and are limited to 7 days worth of FP's. However, if you are staying onsite then you book the number of days you are staying and can book at 60 days.

It would be onsite DVC and booked at 11 or 7 months out. So no different than just buying tickets 11 or 7 months out?

Can the first use be at a water park or does it need to be one of the four major parks?
