Getting poorer...

Thanks all - so, if I think $800 and then I wouldn't be surprised if it's less iyswim. But as there are 6 of us, there will be splitting to be done, and we have the $200 gift card as well, so that helps.

scooby - I am sure all 4 adults will have an alcoholic drink now and again with their meal. So, yes, that needs factoring in.

Wayne - we bought a new car this year too (had no choice, my old one just died!). I really love it but with that and the extension, we did dent our savings a lot and so like Joolz - I'm feeling a bit poor and saving like mad for our spends now :rolleyes1. Nearly there though and I haven't included our £2 coin jar, although not as full as I'd hoped, it is about halfway so I'm thinking (hoping!) £400-500 in it :scared:. With hindsight I wish I'd done a £1 one as I think I might have filled it quicker :crazy2:.

It wasn't exactly planned. Not going to be a big expensive Disney trip, something a bit more low key.

Are you going for a week or more? I think a lot of people don't do Disney every time - it seems the most expensive for tickets so I can see why some people don't do it every trip. Our friends go every year and they seem to do it every other year, they do Universal and Busch every year though as they are a favourite of theirs.

Our last car had just gone thru the MOT again no problem, running as well as it ever had but it wanted work doing soon, estimate over £1,000 so decided now was the time to change.

We have done Disney every trip upto last year, then we only did a Halloween party. This year not going into Disney parks at all but we have Busch(my fave park) and SW AP's. We are enjoying Disney cruises more than the parks.

10 days. We don't usually do Disney anyway but stick to other parks. This might be a park- free trip.

Sorry for the late reply. I will pay all tips on the credit card. £200 worth of dollars if for the times when you need to tip in cash (transfers) and you only need a couple of dollars to pay for something. I like to have a bit of cash on me but everything else will go on the CC. Last time we paid a few tips in cash (getting rid of dollars towards the end) and then put others on the CC and my CC bill was still less than £400. That was with tipping the usual 20%. A few of our meals included the gratuity so that might have helped. The kids had their own cash.

Have you got a few free CC joolz? If not you're going to be paying more than you actually spend. Money saving expert has an article about the best fee free ones on the market.

I have a Nationwide one which I think is still fee-free. Must check, thanks :)

It says 'unlimited commission-free purchases abroad' for its Select cc - that's what I need, isn't it?

Yes, our friends who go every year do similar. They did Disney a fair bit when the children were a lot smaller. They sometimes still do the odd day, but not so much now.

Didn't you just do a week at Universal earlier this year - sorry if I've confused with someone else! Your trip sounded fab - not too rushed and nice and relaxed despite the fact it was only one week. 10 days sounds lovely :)

We did 2 weeks this year - 1 week Universal & 1 week beach. We usually only go for 10 days anyway - this year was unusual.

i wish i was poor because of holiday purchases , still doing boring house renovations here and no firm disney/florida plans in place yet

Bex - my husband would love you (or is it your husband he would love lol!). We've had a lot of work done/big extension done this year on our house and although all the main stuff is done, we still have a way to go - new fireplace, folding doors between rooms, replace internal doors etc. DH is frustrated that we can't get on and do it because we are off to Florida. Me, I'm not too worried - I have doors - they'll do for now! :rolleyes1

We go annually but not Disney each time. We never do Disney and universal tickets just one or other. My 9 year old daughter opted for Harry Potter this year over Disney so we are having 10 days at cabana bay and universal tickets - approx £950 for hotel and 3x14 day tickets so a big saving over Disney. Don't feel sorry for me we are on our first Disney cruise after for my 40th birthday and we'll do mnsshp too.

its a bit of both , as much as i hate it dh works away all week so is in a nice cosy hotel 6 days a week while me and 3 kids are living in a building site , we have just got flooring laid downstairs after 8 month cold dirty concrete floors and the great big hole between the kitchen and downstairs toilet now has a door way in between we are almost at a point where it is livable so gradually increasing the holiday saving/lowering the B&Q trips

We are similar - DH is away 4-5 nights Mon - Fri usually. Although I'm quite happy with the way the house is - well, I am in that I'd rather put the money into the spending fund for WDW .

Glad to hear your B&Q trips are reducing. Ugh DIY shops are just the pits - well, they are when you seem to spend months in them at one time.

Sadly, we just had to have some remedial work on our roof last week - £500. Not a huge amount, but another dent in our WDW savings . I couldn't argue about that one though - the roof is fairly important! :rotfl2:.

It's scary to think we have another 10 weeks (well, 9 really) of saving up and in between then I still need to buy stuff like suitcases and photo connect at US etc, that I've been putting off.
