Help needed embroidery machine

I have a brother se270d disney embroidery machine that has decided to stop working. The needle is out of position to the left and won't go back to the right and now my auto threaded isn't working either.

I called my local sewing machine shop and in order to replace it it will cost min $399. They said only brother machines can do Disney. Is that true??

Any recommendations of a good inexpensive machine I need it this weekend

Only brother machines can do the licensed disney stuff, but if you have your own digitizer software, you should be able to create your own designs for any machine. I'm sorry I can't be much more help than that - I've got a machine of my own that I've never learned to use. LOL.

Ok what is digitizer software? where do I get it? how much is it? What machine do I need for it?

It's computer software they sell at most of the specialty stores that sell machines. You might even be able to get it online/download.

It allows you to take pretty much any image you want and convert it to a file your machine can sew, but it's usually a bit pricey, and I've never learned to properly use mine. You create the proper file, put it on a cartridge/card, and then put the card into your embroiderer. I was hoping maybe you already had it. :/

you would have to buy one compatible with whatever format your machine uses, which should be mentioned in the manual.

My machine and software came from a friend who used to do tshirts and such as a side job, but got out of the business and sold it to my mother and I at a *huge* discount, many years ago.

You might have a less expensive/faster time of it getting a "cheapie" Brother embroidery machine at walmart, if they still sell them. I know they did many moons ago. Maybe still on their website?

They do have one on their website right now, but still ~$400, with a bunch of preloaded disney stuff. With overnight shipping, though, it will be even more. Maybe use your hoop and try hand-embroidery? It's easier than it looks.

I bought the cheaper disney one from Walmart years ago. That is the one that just broke. I know I did not spend $400 on it though. I wish I could just go buy it again because I have 5 or 6 of the disney cards for it. But I probably have only used the machine 10-15 times since I got. You get what you pay for.

That is why I was looking to buy maybe a different brand because this one did not last long. But I love disney and have already spent the money on the cards.

I think I even bought the card reader you were talking about for it. But I never got that to work either.

I would not rush to buy something but I have to sew scout patches on for a ceremony on Tuesday. Not embroider. They are a pain to hand sew.

If you're just doing the satin stitch around the edges, almost ANY sewing machine will do a satin stitch - it's just a tight zig-zag. You could definitely get away with a base-model you can pick up at wallyworld for way less than $100.

And since you already have the investment in the brother cards, you might look into later getting a brother machine through a dealer or specialty store - the upper end models should last much longer, and come with a better warranty.

From a very cursory google search, brother uses PES file format, and on their own website they state that the PES format can be converted to most other formats with some software programs. I'd definitely visit a shop to find out more about those options.

Thank you for all of your suggestions. I am going to go to a dealer and talk to them. Maybe it is a silly fix to my machine. One could only hope.
