How dependble is U.S. Airways ?

We're planning our next April 2016 school vacation week, flight and times out of Boston to Tampa so we can do Busch Gardens our first and last day in Florida. I'm finding U.S. Airways to have the best and cheapest flight times. Does anybody have any past experiences and recommendations about U.S. Airways?
Thanks, good luck all,
Joe

P.S. As usual Delta changed our flight times and eliminated our non-stop flight this past April.

If you buy US Airways tickets for the April 2016 school vacation week, you're really buying American Airlines tickets.

US Airways and American Airiines are already the same company, but are currently still operating as two different brands. The US Airways brand should disappear before the end of this year. The latest reports suggest this will happen in October.

As with all legacy airlines, they change times often. I bought a ticket last September for this August for Disneyland D23 and my flight time has changed from 8:00am to 10:00am to 6:25am! It's the only non-stop so I don't have options to change.

Our home airport is Philadelphia and USAIR is the major airline there. Never had any serious issues. Occasionally times have been changed , nothing as drastic as a PP.

I've had 3 flights on usairways in the past couple months. All three changed times on me, but nothing drastic. However, they are good about working with you to reschedule to another flight that fits your original itinerary, if available, without charging you any fees.

Ultimate YMMV: I nearly always fly American and I'm really fine with them.

I know a lot of Southwest flyers believe in buying tickets the very first instant they become available. As an AA flyer, I never do that; I don't buy my ticket until more like 90-60 days out. AA prices fluctuate a lot, so I just watch them for a while before I jump at what sounds good. In my experience - I have never had a flight time move more than a few minutes (less than 15), and I have never had my chosen seat number changed on me. I know for a fact that flight times have changed drastically, flights added and dropped, and equipment changed if I was buying 6 months out, but by the time I'm ready to commit, things are fairly well settled. I'm sure others have had different experiences, and it depends on your airport, but that's just my experience.

I'm with the PP, I'd keep an eye on the USAir/AA merger plans and see how that impacts your flights before I was ready to commit. But, shockingly, Southwest doesn't work well for all of us, and I haven't had trouble with "legacy."

I've flown USair dozens of times in the last three years, enough to get status every year. I don't normally book out more than 3 months, and the only flight that was changed on me was a partner airline flight (qatar).

I've never had a seat reassigned due to change of aircraft. I'm sure it happens, but it's not an everyday occurance.

From my home airport (Charlotte) SW tends to be more expensive than USair. Probably because SW has very few flights, and this is a hub for USair.

My last experience with US Airways was almost 15 years ago. It was so bad I vowed to never fly them again. (One customer service issue after another after another.) However, lots can change over 15 years. It sounds like numerous Disers have had a good experience with them. I hope that the merger with American Airlines will keep things moving in a positive direction.

Your going to be flying American, as the merger is practically complete and the US Air brand will be put to rest later on this year. As the world's largest airline, their like every other legacy carrier; just keep your expectations in line. While the American product has been dumbed down to match the US product a bit, its not too bad.

I just flew US Airways out of Charlotte last weekend. It was quite decent. I have no complaints.

Love US Airways and will miss them dearly. One of the other posters already mentioned this, but you are esentially buying a ticket on American because by October of this year American will have merged US's reservation system into their own. "Operated by US Airways" flights will now be "Operated by American Airlines" and "Operated by US Airways Express" will now be "Operated by American Eagle".
