Better kids menu options - where would you recommend?

Okay, so this is my situation. I had gastric bypass in December 2014. I am planning to go to DW for 7 or 8 nights in January 2016 with my DD13. I am not doing the dining plan as being charged an adult price while only eating a 1/2 c. a food in a sitting is ridiculous. I know I will not be allowed to order off the kids menu at TS and I will not be pressuring any poor wait staff to let me. But at counter service I know that I can order from the kids menu. Can anyone recommend CS locations that have kids menu options more broad then pizza, burgers and chicken nuggets? Like that actually have real person food? I am a foodie, I love food, now I just only get to love a 1/2 cup of it lol

Most TS restaurants will allow you to order off of the kids menus. The reported exceptions are the non Disney owned restaurants.
That said, take a look at the menus here on the DIS and at allears.net to see which CS have items you will enjoy

I don't pay a huge amount of attention to kids menus, but Be Our Guest and Sunshine Seasons come to mind. I'm wondering if you might have more luck looking for quick service places that serve interesting snacks vs. interesting kids meals, though?

And at table service restaurants you can always go with just an appetizer, soup, or salad. Or just ask them about the kids menu -- asking politely if something is possible (especially when it's for a medical need) is not pressuring!

I would look at the menus and think about the option of sharing some items with your daughter as well as looking at the appetizers and sides - for both CS and TS. Might open up some more possibilities than just the kid's menu.

You should have no problem ordering just an appetizer, or a kids entree at most Disney owned a la carte TS restaurants. You can't do that, of course, at any buffet, family style, or dinner show restaurant.

There are many healthy options at the CS places nowadays. Allears is a good source for menus, as is the official website here: https://disneyworld.disney.go.com/dining/

As far as I know the only restrictions regarding adults and the kids menu are at buffets, dinner shows, and all you can eat places. Where you will be charged as an adult no matter how little you eat. Ordering off the kids menu or only ordering an appetizer is fine everywhere else. Great Kids options are Be Our guest, Les Halles, Sunshine Seasons, Art of Animation food court, and Sanaa. You might want to consider the small plates options at Spice Road Table as well.

Having a son with food allergies, I've found almost all Disney restaurants (with a couple exceptions in Epcot) are very sensitive to guests' needs!

Sometimes in the heat, I'm not very hungry, so order kids meals for myself at counter service places.

I know at Sunshine Seasons, sometimes I just want a small bowl of their lo mein noodles, which are a side dish in the stir fry area. It's only a couple of dollars (I forget). So at a place like that, I'm sure you can get a side of that or fried rice, or they have one area that has a side of mashed potatoes too. You can ask, since many of the areas at Sunshine Seasons you can just order a side dish, which may be a nice amount for you!

I'm sure at table service places, they can work with you. Like if you just want a small side dish, a soup, or whatnot. Or if you're with someone, sharing an entree (my daughter and I did that twice at 50's Prime Time in DHS).

The kids meal options at Grand Floridian Cafe, Kona Cafe, Mama Melrose were a bit varied when we dined last week. Also for QS, Sunshine Seasons has kids meals with salmon or roasted chicken. Or maybe share the adult chicken/ribs combo from Cosmic Ray's with another family member.

Thank you so much for the ideas. I had wondered at the reception I would get asking to split entrees at a TS with an appetizer also ordered. Is that frowned upon? At home I just order a meal and eat leftovers till I tire of it and throw it away, not an option when park touring! Love these forums btw, you guys are awesome!
