Amanda & Jeff 12/7/15 - YCG/Marina/Ariel's/France - Update 10/25: Napa Rose Chefs Counter!

My floral planner told me she had all the AA colours when we discussed my bouquet and I ended up doing an ivory and red wrap on the stems to match my dress. For the ties I found www.dessy.com to be a really good match for AA colours I ordered a vest ties and pocket squares for DH and his brother for the wedding and they matched my dress (and @Disney_Alli 's) exactly

Plus if you're matching silk or satin to chiffon you'll expect some difference in the shade

This is great to know, thank you! I also found online that bows-n-ties.com has a color matching tool for popular bridesmaid dress brands, so I'm going to look there too!

Ahhh ok, finally have a chance to catch up. I love the style of dresses your girls picked, and they are rocking the purple! Your invitations are simply adorable and seem to fit your personality perfectly. And yes, DFTW does keep AA color swatches on file (found out when I tried to give them my color blue!) if you plan on matching anything in the future. I looooooved bows-n-ties.com, great deals there!

Did the bows-n-ties ties match your colors pretty close? The website CLAIMS that they match Alfred Angelo colors, but it's hard to actually tell from the pictures if it's the same color.

I know www.dessy.com does free or cheap swatches to the U.S. (If I remember correctly I couldn't get them shipped to Canada) so you can see the colors in person... Does bows-n-ties have a swatch option?

I was just on Dessy.com it was 5 swatches for just the shipping cost (which they say to the U.S. Is about $7.50 for me in Canada it's $20 but I'm still thinking I'll go for it) then you could check them yourself...

I ended up going with www.solidcolorneckties.com for our groomsmen (to match AA's cobalt) but bows-n-ties for Kevin/our BM and my brother as our officiant, because we wanted a striped tied for Kevin & our BM and my brother was in lime green, the rest were in cobalt blue. I suspect bows-n-ties had "my blue" at one point because I had pinned a specific shade that was discontinued by the time I went to purchase it. I will say bows-n-ties is super awesome with returns though - they take anything within 30 days, so I ordered at least 2 or 3 blues and compared them to swatches/my MOH's dress for color matching.

I will say this, as someone who was downright obsessed with my colors matching perfectly, someone else gave me the advice that your men will never have their ties directly next to their ladies, and it's not worth losing sleep over :) That, and the Roots do a level of color correction in editing that I certainly can't tell that Kevin's and our BM's ties are not the same shade of blue as the rest of the groomsmen. Also, the swatches AA will give you will be satin (they told me it was "the truest representation of the color") but they will naturally be bolder then the color of your dresses in chiffon, just because of the fabric differences.

I totally support ordering as many ties as you have to in order to find the right one though! Don't get me wrong :) I'm pretty sure I carried a swatch with me at all times just in case I stumbled upon something that I might need to match, so I do understand how important it is! :)

Ooooh, I'll have to order some swatches, thanks!

That's a good point. There's just SO many shades of purple, and it's really hard to tell the shade from my computer. Also, AA gave me a chiffon swatch, and I definitely keep in my wallet just in case. :rotfl: I'm going to check out solidcolorneckties.com now too. Thanks!

We have a little over six months until the wedding, and I'm already paranoid about forgetting something. As a result, the other night, I pulled up a bunch of different wedding timelines and made one master list, breaking every task down by month.

For example, here are some of the big things on the list:
May: Complete planning and menu tasting kit
June: Go to menu tasting and planning session, book rehearsal dinner (we want to do Hoop Dee Doo the night before the wedding)
July: Write ceremony, get suit for Jeff, order groomsmen ties (and maybe vests)
August: Make final honeymoon cruise payment (we need to do it before the booking window opens for gold Castaway Club members), purchase wedding rings, figure out shoes/jewelry, figure out wedding party gifts
September: Make favors (I'm going to try to DIY ornaments as favors, but I'm leaving a lot of time in case I fail and we need to buy something haha), send out invitations
October: Ceremony programs, figure out toasting flutes, etc (we think want to get engraved flutes from the Crystal Arts store in Magic Kingdom)
November: Gown alterations, seating chart, write vows
December: Finalize everything, get marriage license, GET MARRIED

So most recently, we've been working on the planning and menu tasting kits. We've got most of the planning kit done, other than the menu parts. I definitely understand why they offer the pre-planned menus because figuring out your own menu is daunting. Right now the only things I know for sure that we are going to be tasting are the macaroni and cheese and mashed potato bars. We also are interested in doing the french onion soup shooters that they had at the DFTW showcase in February, but I don't think we're going to add that to our tasting. As far as the cake tasting, the only thing I know for sure I want to taste is the chocolate cake with peanut butter mousse. I think Jeff will probably also want to see if we could taste the Grey Stuff (from Be Our Guest Restaurant) filling also.

For the bar, we are looking into doing a package bar instead of BOC, against pretty much every Disney bride's recommendations. My parents think people are going to drink a lot, especially since a bunch of her friends are staying in the Beach Club/Boardwalk area specifically so they don't have to drive. So package bar it is. I'd love to do a bar for the dessert party also, even if it's just BOC Rosa Regale or one BOC cocktail or something. But I just don't think it'll fit into the budget, unfortunately. I might ask to add just BOC coffee and hot chocolate to the dessert party, since I'm paranoid it will be cold. Although now that I say that, I'd love to add stuff like Bailey's and Kahlua for people to spike their hot drinks with...

For the dessert party menu, we haven't talked a ton about it yet, but I have a feeling that we're going to end up with the milk and cookies bar (our planner said we could use the selections they had at the DFTW showcase or we could choose our own milk and cookie combos), chocolate fondue, and cronuts. I've seen a lot of brides have nacho bars at their dessert parties, which I LOVE, but we'll have to see what the menu price comes out to be before we consider adding things. I also like the idea of adding Mickey ice cream bars to the dessert party, but I'm afraid people won't eat them if it's cold out.

Doing the planning kit also made us focus on the processional details of the ceremony. Originally, Jeff wanted him and his groomsmen to walk in to Come and Get Your Love, then my bridesmaids would walk in to a different song, and then I would walk in to the instrumental version of Spectromagic. But once we laid it all out, we realized that with only seven total groups walking down the aisle (our officiant, Jeff's groomsman, his best man, him with his parents, my bridesmaid, my maid of honor, and me), we probably wouldn't have enough time for three songs in that short amount of time. So now we're not sure what to do. Jeff isn't sure if he wants to stick with Come and Get Your Love, or if we should choose another song for everyone to walk down to. The planning kit has space for a song for each different group of people, but I just don't think we would have enough time.

The other big thing that has happened is that we booked professional videography! If you've read my whole planning journal, you might remember that we had decided to do our own videography to save money. Well, a week or two ago, I had a small breakdown and realized that I really, really wanted professional videography. I know it can be expensive, but I wanted every single memory possible captured on video! Since we're already trying to stay as close to minimums as possible, it had to be very affordable. But at the same time, I didn't want to compromise on style, since I don't want to spend money on something that I don't want to watch because I don't love the style. I contacted many videographers, including Beyond Videography (very affordable and I like his style) and Trinity (who we contacted before we were even officially booked with Disney, but then we decided we couldn't afford it).

In the end, Beyond Videography was booked, but we were able to work with Trinity to get a six hour package, which was more affordable than their eight hour package. We also added the documentary reception edit, since I want as much footage as possible. David and Kristina assured me that I could add additional hours later, if we are able to fit it into the budget. I want to add more hours with the Roots too, if we can, since we only have six hours booked with them right now as well.

So hooray! We now have photo, video, and hair and makeup booked! Hopefully that's all the outside vendor's we'll need. When I'm doing the contracts with all these different vendors, it really makes me glad that I know Disney will take care of everything else!

I don't remember your timeline (sorry!! Bad PJ follower :( ) but is your DP immediately following your reception, or is there a break? If your guests aren't immediately going to your DP, you could always serve Mickey bars BOC at your reception or with your wedding cake if you really want to have them - I think most of us skimp on desserts because hi, wedding cake, but it's absolutely an option. I wouldn't do it if you're going straight to the DP after (because what if your guests fill up on Mickey bars and then don't enjoy the treats you paid for in Epcot) but that might be a solution if you're really bummed about not having Mickey bars on your wedding day! Especially if people are dancing up a storm they might really like ice cream.

I'm sooooooooo happy David & Kristina could work with your budget!! Flowers die, food gets eaten (though the memories of the food remain ;) ) and entertainment is in the moment, but only photo and video last forever. I'm so happy for you that you were able to swing it, and fingers triple crossed you get more time with both the Roots and Trinity! Great call on the documentary reception, you'll definitely want that.

The nice thing about music is you have up till 30 days before to decide (seriously - Kristie held my Final BEO hostage till we gave her our music selections :lmao:). I suppose what it comes down to is how you feel about music fading out in the middle of the song, long gaps while you wait for someone to appear/a song to finish, or everyone coming in to the same song. I settled on the last one and that worked for us, but you'll figure out what's good for you.

So exciting to have your planning kit almost ready to turn in! This summer is going to fly by :)

Yes, our DP is directly after our reception. I'm not super attached to the idea of Mickey bars. I thought it was a cute idea, but I'm not devastated that we're probably not going to add them. And yes, I'm ecstatic that we were able to book David and Kristina! I knew waiting so long might limit our choices, so I was thrilled to find out that they were available and willing to work with our budget!

I'm so happy you were able to book Trinity! They were so great and easy to work with the day of our wedding. This is just my opinion, but if the DP is directly following your reception (and you're having a package bar there), I wouldn't stress too much about having one at the DP if it stretches your budget. The nacho bar was the biggest hit at our DP by far, but we also had a brunch reception with a gap in between, so that could be part of why people really wanted savory options.

Hooray, I'm so happy to hear great things about Trinity! I can't wait to work with them. They also come recommended by the Roots (who we're using for photography), so it's also good to know that they work well together with them. For the dessert party, I would like to add the nacho bar, but I'll see how the menus we requested come out in terms of price first...

We sent in our planning and tasting kits to our planner last night! Only a little more than a month until our planning session and menu tasting. I can't wait!

For the menu tasting, we are choosing to taste:
Gourmet Macaroni and Cheese Bar
Gourmet Mashed Potato Bar
Butter Chicken from Sanaa
Seared Angus Beef Fillet with Drunken Cherries, Savory Brioche French Toast
Grilled Flat Iron Steak with Merlot and Black Pepper Reduction, Balsamic Crimini Mushrooms, and Roasted Shallots
Pan-friend Chicken Dumplings
Mini Chicken Empanadas with Chimichurri Sauce
Beef Skewers with House-made Teriyaki Sauce

And for the cake tasting, we are going to taste the chocolate, almond, lemon, and red velvet cakes with the milk chocolate mousse, peanut butter cup, amaretto with almond crunch, and raspberry fillings. We also asked our planner if it would be possible to try the "grey stuff" cake filling, and she said yes! I already have it in my head that I want one layer to be chocolate and peanut butter cup, even though I haven't tasted it yet. In fact, I'm considering asking for a three layer cake, even though we will probably only need two, so we could take a whole layer home to eat on the days before our honeymoon cruise! We'll have to see where we land with the food and beverage minimums...

Speaking of desserts, we also emailed our planner last night, asking her to price out some dessert party menus for us. We asked for the pricing on a menu that includes a milk and cookie bar (with the same milk and cookie flavors as at the DFTW showcase), cronuts, milk chocolate fondue, and Oreo bonbons (like they make at the Beach Club). We also asked what the pricing would be on the same menu without the bonbons. Kristie's assistant emailed me back this morning saying that she will get in touch with the chefs and get back to us with pricing. I'd like to stay on the low end of dessert menu pricing, so we'll see if we need to make changes when she gets back to us.

The other thing that the planning kit made us really think about was how we wanted our wedding to look and feel. I found out that Jeff was mainly concerned about making sure that the wedding events flowed smoothly for our guests, while I was mainly concerned that everything would be sparkly... :rotfl:

I found these photos on the Disney wedding website, looking through their "inspiration gallery," and I'm sort of in love with these linens...

I love the look of the sparkly silver overlay with a purple tablecloth underneath. I also love the way the silver Chiavari chairs look, although I could take or leave the sashes on the chairs. Jeff and I are pretty much having the same idea when it comes to what we want: request everything we could possibly want during the planning session and cut stuff once we get the BEO. I'm hoping that since we aren't doing a ton of floral, we'll have extra room in the budget for fancy linens and Chiavari chairs.

I'm not really caring much about adding any decor at all to the ceremony site, other than maybe ribbon/fabric along the aisle, to prevent people from standing in it and blocking the shots of the photographers and videographers. And we're not wanting floral centerpieces. My favorite centerpieces are simple floating tea-light centerpieces, which hopefully won't cost an arm and a leg.

Floral bouquets, however, are growing on me. Originally I thought I wanted a bouquet where the "flowers" were made of book pages. After seeing lots of floral bouquets, though, I'm actually starting to like them a lot. Here are some of my favorite bouquet inspiration photos...

This one, but without the lilies:

This one, but with less white flowers:

The more purple the better:

For myself, I'm going to see if they could do a bouquet with silk flowers. I like the idea of being able to keep the bouquet forever. I will also ask for it to be bridesmaid sized, so it'll be less heavy and less expensive. For my bridesmaids, I'm thinking of something simple and white, like this...

Or this...

For Jeff and his groomsmen, I just don't know. I don't love boutonnieres, but I'm not sure if the guys will look strange without them. And I feel the same about corsages. Does my mom NEED a corsage to feel special? I feel like at a certain point, it's just flowers for the sake of flowers. I guess flowers are starting to grow on me, but I'm not 100% sold yet! :confused3

I did boutonniers for the guys because I do like those but I did not do corsages for the mothers. The only floral I had other than personal floral was one large red calla lily with banana leaves as a memorial piece... Which DH's mom picked up and would not put down which annoyed me a little but... It's been 5 years it's fine!

I say this: it's your wedding, so do what you want! If you don't want bouts, nix them. I think it's definitely more common to nix corsages nowadays (we had them, but because the moms really wanted them, and we wanted to specially acknowledge my grandmother since it was so difficult for her to make the trip down). My mom wore her corsage for 3 days after the wedding around the parks because she loved it so much and wanted to keep the wedding alive. Now after everything I just said (bahaha) I do think it's more common to nix corsages, so no one would notice if you didn't have them. Have you thought about non-floral boutonnieres, or using Disney Pins, or something? Your floral planner might have some good ideas.

Your food sounds outstanding!! It's the morning now and I'm getting hungry thinking of it.

Okay good. I think we might just stick with bouquets and call it a day.

I'll have to ask our planner and search Pinterest for boutonniere alternatives. And yes, I cannot wait until our tasting! The only thing I'm not looking forward to is that it's at 9:30 am, which is not an ideal time to eat dinner food. But I guess we'll have to persevere... :rotfl:

I'm loving getting caught up on everything you're planning! That is fantastic that you are getting professional video done. I know that was something we were really on the fence about as well, but now after the wedding we are so happy we did because so much of the day was a blur it will be nice to be able to sit down and watch it.

We actually did the unity glass for our wedding using our wedding colors and the piece is fantastic! I love having such a pretty reminder of our wedding day to look at. The tree lock ceremony is beautiful too!

Can't wait to hear more and see a December WDW wedding. December at Disneyland was fantastic. I hope Disney World is just as gorgeous for your day!

Yay, thanks for reading! I think we are leaning towards the unity glass for the ceremony. I love the finished pieces.

And yes, Disney is December is amazing. I love that even if our guests don't visit the parks, they can experience the Christmas theming at the resorts.

I'm feeling very accomplished because in the past two days, we got two big wedding things done.

First, yesterday I booked our rehearsal dinner at the Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Revue! I'm SO excited about this. We've had this idea for a while of wanting to do this for our rehearsal dinner. Unfortunately, we're not able to afford a full welcome party for all of our guests, but we do have 17 people booked for Hoop-Dee-Doo, between our close family members and our bridal party. Jeff and I have been to the dinner show before, but most of the people we're inviting haven't. I love that we get built-in entertainment along with all-you-can-eat food and all-you-can-drink sangria. :thumbsup2 We're doing it the night before the wedding, so we picked the 4:00 pm show in case people need the rest of the evening to recover, if they over-indulge. :rotfl:

I'd like to also do an informal meet-up for our guests who aren't invited to the official rehearsal dinner, but I'm not sure where yet. I guess it depends where most of our guests end up staying. If they all end up in the Yacht and Beach Club/Boardwalk area, it would be pretty easy to have an informal hangout someone in that area.

As for the second thing we did... we registered for stuff! Lots of months ago, we signed up for a honeymoon registry through Wanderable, since that's what we really want our guests to get for us. But I figured that people are going to get you what they want to get you, regardless of what you tell them. And if they're going to get us physical gifts, I'd rather steer them in the right direction than have them get us a $300 Kitchenaid mixer that we'll never use. (Seriously, I have a weird fear of getting a Kitchenaid mixer... there are so many other things I could do with that $300!)

So we registered at Target today! I had a, I guess sort of outdated, vision of getting a scan gun to run around Target with. But it's 2015, so they gave us this iPhone with a scanner, basically. We registered for a bunch of kitchen stuff, some towels and sheets, and a bunch of Disney gift cards. There was a lot of other stuff that Target considered "registry essentials," but we don't have a ton of guests coming to the wedding in the first place, so I wanted to keep the list relatively small.

So those are two things I can check off my planning list! There's not a ton more to do in the next few weeks. Our menu tasting and planning session are in less than three weeks! I guess in the meantime, I'm just going to be looking for more inspiration photos and preparing for our session. It's really feeling like everything's coming together! :goodvibes
