Disney Gift Card Deals

You have to do whatever is within your comfort level.

I redeem my rewards for Target GCs and then buy the Disney GCs online because I know that I can use them to pay my DVC dues in the event that a trip falls through, like they did last fall. I would not buy them if I was concerned if my vacation account doubled as an emergency fund.

I don't know how much shopping you do at Target, but buying the GCs at an 8.5% discount on cardcash is still better than the 5% discount you would get on any in-store purchase using the REDCard. You could save those Target GCs for everyday purposes if your Disney trip falls through, but use them to purchase Disney GCs in-store at the last minute if the trip is a go.

Oh, good call! I am a DVC member too. I have a set amount direct-deposited from each paycheck into an online money market account. Then I buy a bunch of gift cards in December and pay the dues in a lump sum in January. It's only May so the account is only half-full right now, but perhaps I ought to empty it out and buy those Target cards at a discount. Even if they never come back online, you pointed out that the 8.5% is better than the 5% in the store.

If you don't go, are you likely to go anytime soon?
Would you buy groceries or anything else at Target?

If you can answer yes to either of these, pull the trigger and have the Target cards ready for when you make your final decision.

Yes to both...we go to Target at least twice a week (they have a super-friendly girl that works at the Starbucks and always gives my kids the HUGE drinks and only charges us for the small ones:worship:) and we are also planning a trip back to WDW next June.

You guys have talked me into it:thanks:.

OMG! How much are you making on that MM account??? Normally raise is what? 4%? If you're making 4.5% on that MM account, keep it in there. If not, buy those 8.5% gcs. Plus you don't have to pay tax on the interest. :goodvibes

I stock up every time it gets this high... however much I can float for the month. Once we get close to Thanksgiving and Christmas, it's going to be really hard to find 8%! You could wait till after Christmas but you run the risk of not getting the GC in time for dues.

I posted before on this. I buy as much "store eligible pickup" as I can for max savings at Target. :thumbsup2

Most MM are at 1% or less with some as little as .05%. She is looking at buying cards at an 8.5% discount before they are gone. It would take her years to make that in interest.
And yes you do have to pay tax on interest.

You have inspired me! I just checked the account and it was sitting at about $435. I realized that $500 in Disney cards would cost $475 and $475 in Target cards cost $432.97. I transferred almost all of it into my PayPal account and when it arrives, I can go through Sunshine Rewards (to earn 1% on the $433) and then use my PayPal debit card to earn another 1% rebate:love:. When all is said and done, the $500 in gift cards will cost a net total of $424.37...a savings of 15%:worship:. I'm just hoping that the 8.5% will still be in effect and that there will still be Target cards available when the money arrives in my PayPal account:scared:.

Just want to voice my frustration with Target...2 weeks ago I placed a gift card order. 10 days ago I got the shipping notice with tracking like always. I would check it here and there but ups never got the order because it never updated. So I call Target on Wednesday and they tell me to wait 2 more days and then they will issue a reorder. So I call them back today and of course now that the cards are temporarily out of stock, all they do is either refund me or have me wait until they come back in stock and then place the order again.

It's just super frustrating to get a shipping email and then 10 days later realize it's not coming. Obviously it won't stop me from ordering again since this is the best deal out there but man is it annoying when things don't work out.

I think your experience is very helpful to those who are looking for these great deals...you have to be patient and not wait until the last minute. Thank you for letting us know what you are going through because it should serve as a reminder to plan ahead and expect the unexpected:flower3:.

Oh absolutely. I've placed 5 orders. The first 2 took 2 weeks to arrive from shipping date to my front door. The other 2 took a week, and then this one obviously got lost in Targets warehouse and never made it to UPS.

I would place an order no later than 3 weeks out just to be safe if you need cards for a trip.

In the end, I know I will eventually get what I ordered and my trip isn't until December so I have plenty of time. But yes...buyer beware, sometimes things go wrong haha.

OK, now I have my own little snafu...

I'm trying to access my Target gift cards on the app so that I can load up the gift cards I just received. I get the "something went wrong..." message and the page will not load. Is anyone else having this glitch? It comes up when I hit "load gift card".

I don't use the app, always go straight to m.target.com. The app kept crashing on me after the last update so I took it off my phone.

Thanks! I went to the site and hit "load a gift card" and got the same error message. When I pulled up the gift card I have as my default and hit "combine", I was able to load the two new cards and combine them without a problem.

I read that users have given the DVA number to the TA to pay for their trip. I have also read that you cannot go through Disney if you went through a TA.

I will know this first hand soon enough. I hope I am not screwed by putting the money into DVA and not being able to use it for my November trip.
According to the DVA rules, you can't give your account number to the TA and should request your res number from the TA...It doesn't mean it won't work, it's just the rules for your protection.

not sure about this being the best deal, but I just bought some disney gc from Sams club,142.98 for 150.00 worth....that saves a bit of our food bill when we go,and it was super easy....

My order from May 15 is also not showing shipping info although I got the email from Target that it shipped. I guess I need to call Target.

Interesting. I put in a couple orders of 8 cards on May 19th, and they're both out for delivery today. I've had some ship really fast like this, others take 2 weeks. Even had one batch show up unactivated, so I had to read them all one by one to a Target rep to activate them. Fun stuff. But in the end, it's worth it. I have 16 more to go which will end up being 163 gift cards bought over the last 5 months. Total $8150 in value for a total spend (after DVA rebate) of $7143. So $1007 saved, not counting credit card perks (shouldn't count credit card rebates in ones' savings, since you'd still get them (more even) if you just charged your vacation outright). I got them in about 10 batches, which take around 30 min to enter, so all up it was maybe 5 hours of work, plus one 1-hr phone call. Also adding in incidental time like research and stuff online, maybe I've invested 11 hours of labor to save $1,000 of after-tax money so that's not a bad wage to earn on the time spent. :)

As others have said, you do have to plan ahead, this isn't something you do overnight. The limit of 8 on Target orders is a pain, so I never want to order too many batches at once. Then there is the supposed limit of $1000/day into a DVA account, but I've not yet seen this enforced, and have done batches of over $1000 many times. Then you have to have in started 120 days in advance, and get your vacation paid in time to get your DVA rebate, so another 2 months there.

To the person who posted a site about this... I would suggest not doing that. There is no reason to, and nothing will get Target to close the red card glitch faster or Disney to impose some other limitation than public sites detailing out such loopholes.

Yea, "loose lips sink ships"!

Fun little update. Gift cards are back in stock I called to get my order resent. Target's system wouldn't allow a replacement order OR a refund so they have to put in a "research" and I have to wait ANOTHER week to either get the money refunded to my gift cards or have a replacement order sent.

The level of customer service in these outsourced foreign call centers is abysmal at best.

And of course I'm about to place another order since it's still the best deal out there and I know my case is the minority. But I really hope this doesn't happen to any of you because it's a giant pain.

Good luck! Hope it's smoother for you going forward.

Now if they will just put the $100 GC online. :scratchin

I placed two orders on May 14th. One for gift cards and another for baby clothes. Neither of them showed any update in tracking at all. Today was the last day in the delivery window that Target had on my order history. Thankfully it showed up in the mail earlier today! I was so dreading trying to get that taken care of if they didn't come.

The tracking still shows nothing!

The tracking for Target orders may not be working. I had two orders that I received but the tracking information was never updated. Usually I get my orders in 4-5 business day but these last two orders took more than 2 weeks.

Very strange. I lost the option to add or combine gift cards on the m.target.com website.

Am I the only one?

Only options I have are "give a giftcard", "update account information", or "delete card" (if I click my existing giftcard).
