I'm looking to update my summer running playlist and would love some suggestions. Running playlist currently has a mix of new and not so new pop (think "Uptown Funk" & "Push It"), classics (think "Bohemian Rhapsody" & "Bad Reputation"), and dance (think "Turn Down for What," "Titanium" & "Applause").

Would love some additional suggestions!

Let's see ... some new additions to my playlist this week include:

Can't Hold Us (Macklemore)
GDFR (Flo Rida)
List of Demands (Saul Williams)
Smack My B* Up (Prodigy)
The Man (Aloe Blacc)
Burn (Ellie Goulding)
Neon Lights (Demi Lovato)
Happy (Pharrell)
Glowing (Nikki Williams)
Want To Want Me (Jason Derulo)
Talking Body (Tove Lo)
One Last Time (Ariana Grande)
I Want You To Know (Selena Gomez, Zedd)
Get By (Talib Kweli)
Elastic Heart (Sia)
Close Your Eyes (Run the Jewels)
Wolf Like Me (TV on the Radio)
POWER (Kanye West)

I try for a fast pace of steps during my run segments, which means I'm using Roar and others with that beat that I cannot, right now, remember. Quick little steps. (I'm not a fast runner, but I take a zillion steps LOL)

OR stuff that makes me smile and move and feel awesome, which ranges from, yes, I'm embarrassed, Let It Go all the way to I'm on a Boat (Lonely Island...not safe for kids!) because it cracks me up, and then Eminem's Lose Yourself (also not safe for kids) because that song helps me get up the little bitty hills I've been working on. :)

Some of my newer songs ... Don't know how (new) they are but new to me...

That Girl is a problem Natalia kills
Dance with me tonight olly murs
Fiesta buena DJ mams
Bang bang Jessie j
Burn it to the ground nickel back
Get low DJ Francis
When she drinks johnny t

And two all time workout faves
Stomp song DJ alligator
Till I collapse eminem

Look these up in iTunes:

Winter Solstice Workout (Non-Stop DJ Mix)
Runners Rhythm - Seven Run Sessions 15 m
No.1 Running Tracks - The Essential Body

I realized really late that my usual strategy of using Pandora was probably not going to work for Tink with all the people in the area, and had to hastily buy some music and make a playlist before we left. I don't really own any music because I am always just listening to Pandora. I only got it to about 1 hour worth bought/downloaded before we left, so I just listened to it on repeat. I need to flesh it out with more songs before W&D, although it will work now for my local races of shorter distances. :)

My tastes run more to electronic and dubstep for my regular listening, so my running music tends to either come from the Dance Cardio genre station on Pandora (pop and some electronica) or the Electronic Cardio station.

Animals - Martin Garrix
Turn Me On (feat. Nicki Minaj) - David Guetta
Sexy B***h (feat. Akon) - David Guetta
Titanium (feat. Sia) - David Guetta
Club Can't Handle Me (feat. David Guetta) - Flo Rida
Where Them Girls At (feat. Nicki Minaj & Flo Rida) - David Guetta
Lights (Bassnectar Remix) - Ellie Goulding
Burn - Ellie Goulding
I Need Your Love (feat. Ellie Goulding) - Calvin Harris
My Songs Know What You Did In the Dark - Fall Out Boy
Disturbia - Rihanna
We Found Love (feat. Calvin Harris) - Rihanna
Slow Down - Selena Gomez
Party Rock Anthem (feat. Lauren Bennett & GoonRock) - LMFAO
Stronger - Kanye West

I do a lot of pop/dance stuff because of the beat, some are newer but most are older. Several have already been listed above so I won't repeat...
Fine by Me (Andy Grammer)
Raise Your Glass (Pink)
Runaway Baby (Bruno Mars)
Timber (Pitbull)
Lips are Movin (Meghan Trainor)
Shake it Off (Taylor Siwft)
Geronimo (Sheppard)
Classic (MKTO)

I mix metal with 80's and 90's pop, so I don't really hit the interests on your list (maybe "classics"), but here are a few of my favorites:

Power of Love-Huey Lewis and the News
Fuel-Metallica
Not Ready to Die-Demon Hunter
Straight Up-Paula Abdul
The Spy Hunter-Project 86
Savannah-Zao
Are You Gonna Go My Way-Lenny Kravitz
Anastasia-Slash/Miles Kennedy
No Leaf Clover-Metallica
Tarantula-Smashing Pumpkins
I Get Around-The Beach Boys
Always Be My Baby-Mariah Carey
You Can't Hurry Love-Supremes or Phil Collins

My mix is odd and I am not a fan of dance/electronic sounds so it's probably even more odd in a running context, but it gets the job done.

I saw someone mention Pandora above.

I use Spotify and pay for the Premium account (I think it's roughly $10/month). The awesome thing is, once I make my playlists, I can make them available "offline", which means it doesn't pull from WiFi/data to stream the songs so I don't have to worry about my battery draining super fast OR hitting a dead spot with no music.

And it's pay as you go, so you don't have to use it every month if you don't want to - but it's a heck of a lot cheaper than trying to buy 2-3 hours worth of music off iTunes at the last minute.

Great suggestions so far. Lots of them already on my playlist.

I haven't done the podcast or audiobooks yet so strictly music for me.....except for comedians.....Brian Regan, Jim Gaffigan etc.
Spend most of my time listening to Jimmy Buffett, Kenny Chesney, Luke Bryan, and Florida Georgia Line...just about anything by them works for me.

Here are some not mentioned yet

Billy Idol-Mony Mony, Rebel Yell
The Dub Pistols- AC/DP
Def Leppard- Photograph, Do you wanna Get Rocked, Pour Some Sugar on Me
Bon Jovi-Livin On A Prayer, Runaway, Bad Medicine
Bowling for Soup-High School Never Ends, 1985, Come Back to Texas
Zac Brown Band-Chicken Fried, Knee Deep, Toes
Tom Petty-American Girl, Running Down A Dream, Free Fallin'
Jessie J-Domino, Do It like a Dude, Who's Laughing Now
Hot Chelle Rae-Tonight, Tonight
Linkin Park-In the End, Breaking the Habit, Somewhere I belong
Metallica-Enter Sandman, Ride the Lightning (try to run slow with that one)
Walk the Moon-Shut Up and Dance
One Republic-I lived
and for you 80's lovers.....DJ Scene/80's mashup covers almost every great song from the 80s

If you're working on pacing, try Jog.FM. You put in what you want your pace to be and it compiles songs that have a BPM that matches up, keeps you on track.

Ooooh. For comedians, it's Amy Schumer and Patton Oswalt for me. Or, if I'm really feelin' it - some old school Chris Rock.

Comedians are great for keeping me run fun and relaxed. Those sound good.....is Chris Rock friendly for teenage ears?

Well my teenage ears listened to him, but I doubt my parents would have approved if they knew. :)

I find that audiobooks are great for long runs where you are working on distance/pacing rather than speed.

I mean ... I loved "Bigger and Blacker" as a teen, but I'm sure my parentals wouldn't have approved. :guilty:

Some of these are probably repeats, but here's my current playlist:
  • Fall Out Boy, “My Songs Know What You Did in the Dark (Light ‘Em Up)”
  • B.o.B. feat. Rivers Cuomo, “Magic”
  • Kevin Rudolf & Lil’ Wayne, “Let it Rock”
  • Linkin Park, “Bleed It Out”
  • Icona Pop, “I Love It”
  • Macklemore & Ryan Lewis feat. Ray Dalton, “Can’t Hold Us”
  • The Wallflowers, “One Headlight”
  • Guns N’ Roses, “Sweet Child O Mine”
  • Subliminal, “Toro” (Subliminal is an Israeli rapper - might not be as motivating for running if you don't speak Hebrew)
  • Metallica, “Enter Sandman”
  • Fall Out Boy, “Centuries”
  • Karmin, “Acapella”
  • Far East Movement feat. The Cataracs & Dev, “Like a G6″
  • Red Hot Chili Peppers, “Higher Ground”
  • Avril Lavigne, “Girlfriend”
  • Nelly, “Heart of a Champion”
  • Jay-Z, “Empire State of Mind”
  • Imagine Dragons, “It’s Time”
  • Dropkick Murphys, “I’m Shipping Up to Boston”
  • The Brian Setzer Orchestra, “Gettin’ in the Mood”
  • Sia, “Chandelier”
  • Jay-Z feat. Kanye West & Rihanna, “Run This Town”
  • Flo Rida feat. Ke$ha, “Right Round"
  • Bruno Mars, “Locked Out of Heaven”
  • The Wanted, “Chasing the Sun”
  • Ke$ha, “TiK ToK”
  • Avril Lavigne, “Smile”
  • Black Eyed Peas, “I Gotta Feeling”
  • The Killers, "A Dustland Fairytale"
I tend to add & remove songs randomly, so my playlist is always changing. It started out with a lot of rap/hip hop but lately I've been adding some more pop or rock. These days I'm actually adding some slower stuff (or stuff that has slower portions), which I love because those are some of my favorite songs, but probably isn't great if you use music to help with your pace.
