Low crowds expected August 10-16?

I checked the Is it Packed crowd calendar and it seems like they expect "Hey, it's alright" crowds from August 10-16, but it's packed again starting on Monday the 17th. Does anyone know why? Trying to plan a trip sometime within those two weeks and I can't figure out why there would be a week in the middle of summer with low crowds. Is this a mistake?

Thanks, I just figured it out. August 16 is the last day that AP's are blocked in the summer. I guess going August 17 would be a big mistake!

Don't forget the D23 Expo from the 14th to 16th. They say this normally doesn't effect crowd levels in the park, but I think the 60th events will draw convention goers in.

The week before they unblock the local APs is usually pretty good, we usually do that week, before attending D23 (on D23 years, like this year).

MOST D23 attendees are locals, and they will probably wait until after the 16th to go into the parks. (most, not all are locals, not saying all, I am from NJ and I go to D23). But overall, DL attendance will probably be more this summer. I can't wait.

Thanks! Do you think it would be better to go 8/10 and 8/11 than 8/13 and 8/14?

We'll be there the 11-13th and I hope crowds are a little lighter that week.

We were there last year the first week passes were unblocked. Sunday was very busy, but the rest of the week was manageable. Busier in the evenings of course.

I will be there from the 8th to the 17th. In the past I would say it is just as busy as any other time in August. We go August every year and switched up the week. It is busy, but not as busy as end of June or July. But still busy. Great in the morning and late evening, but afternoons get packed.

There is one factor that maybe hasn't been figured in when comparing this coming August to the past couple of years. This past year (and the year before that...not sure about prior to then), the Los Angeles Unified School District went back into session really early. In 2013, the first day of school was August 13th. This past summer, 2014, school was back on August 12th.

This year, LAUSD has decided to change their start date...so school doesn't start until August 18th. I am thinking that the "isitpacked" website is basing their info on years past, when kids were already back in school the week of 8/10...and passes weren't unblocked yet. This combo would make for "low" crowds. I don't think it will be a slow week because it's the last hurrah before school starts. Just a hunch.

We usually go in Oct but decided to change it up this year due to the increasing crowds for Halloween time. I did a lot of research and decided on 8/23-8/28 in the parks. Yes the AP block is lifted but the major school districts are back in session by that point so I figured during the week will be pretty manageable. We were also looking at the prior week but due to the expo over the weekend when we would arrive and some schools not starting until mid-week we ruled that out. If you go the 10th - 16th hopefully it won't be too bad!

Touring Plans has the week of the 10-16 as 6's and 7's. I know it's not reliable, but I will be there that week so I look anyway :)

I'm attending D23 Expo 2015 and am planning on visiting Disneyland on August 11, 12, and 13. I normally visit Disneyland in February, before Gallifrey One in Los Angeles. I know this is going to be a major increase in crowd levels but I really want to see the Diamond Anniversary celebrations. I'm coming from Chicago, so Disneyland is an annual tradition for me.

We went during that week last year- it was crowded but nothing like when we went this past Christmas. Something else to consider- during that week the opening times were 1 hour later - so a 8am early entry and 9am regular opening. We were off site 2 nights then on site 2 nights. Our usual strategy still held - get there as early as you are allowed (EE time or rope drop) and stay until you see the hoardes coming in (I think it was around 11:30am that week versus 10:30 during the week before Christmas), then grab lunch or see a show, go back to the hotel, and lay low until late afternoon. The local AP's didn't get unblocked until the following week so there weren't too many flocking in late afternoon.

Regardless of when we go ("ghost town" or f'orget about it") we always make the best of it and have a wonderful time. Even when we went on a Sat night during that August trip, and Tomorrrowland was wall to wall people, we stood in a 30 min Buzz line, then did some shopping and got out with smiles on our faces.

Now, if the LA schools are not in session yet and DL still moved the open times out an hour, defiantly try to get there as early as you can!!!

I wouldn't count on those lower crowds this year. My school district and LAUSD are both not starting until the next week (August 17/18). With schools not back in session yet, I think there will be more people there than anticipated. I will say after having been there this past week, the days predicted as "yup, it's packed" and around a 7-8 were not half as bad as weekend visits have been. So, it might be okay. I do wish you all the best of luck in having low crowds though.

I will be there 8/18-8/20, but with blackouts ending and being so close to D23, I'm keeping my expectations low. ;)
