So I am looking at booking a FD trip if my dates are available. If I fly home on New Year's Day would that be crazy expensive or cheaper versus Jan 2?

Otherwise I am trying to book for August but cannot find what the first day back to school is for the WRSB. grrrr...

Flights for two adults in August is looking about 700.-00 or so, do you have an estimate how much they would run at Christmas?

Who would be the cheapest to book with?

Thanks!!

Might help if i know which school board that is... and then which airport you're flying outta??

I am with the Waterloo Regional District School Board...I am awaiting an answer on first day back. I am looking at flying out of buffalo or toronto, whichever is cheapest. Maybe detroit.
I have flown out of Kitchener before but have always had nothing but mechanical delays with their flights, so not looking to fly out of Kitchener again!
My tentative dates are Aug 15-29 or Dec 19- jan 2. or the 18th to the 1st of Jan, whichever would be cheaper. Hope that clarifies. Thanks!

OH hi neighbour! ... Guelphite here. I think it would be safe to assume that school will go back on Tuesday, September 8th since that's when classes start up at Conestoga College (have both a student & instructor in the family) and they generally follow the school board's dates. think flying out of KW to ANY international destination is a major pain due to needing to change planes at least once ... was extremely convenient when hubby was doing work in Vancouver during the 2010 Olympics .. they had direct flights and i could have him dropped off and be home in under 45 minutes. Even that requires a lengthy lay-over in Calgary now.

To answer your basic question about when is cheaper ... I have no idea !! Sorry i can't be any help with that.

Assuming the teacher strikes in Ontario are over by then (both Elementary and Secondary teachers are in a strike position), I would expect classes to start again on the 8th of September. The Ottawa CDSB site shows that as the proposed start date, as did a couple of other Ontario boards I googled. It is also the Ministry's suggested start date.

Hi there. I am a teacher in WRDSB as well and to the best of my knowledge, school will go back on Sept 8th. As far as cheapest flights...we always go Buffalo or Detroit. Like you, we have to travel in the "peak season" and have always done Disney in the summer And Universal at March break. Sometimes the 3.5 hour drive to Detroit is well worth the over $1000 it will save. Feel free to message me about specific airlines if you like

We fly SW out of Buffalo. We've been lucky finding cheap flights for our August and December trips. Even with a bad exchange rate it's still much cheaper then flying out of Pearson. SW flights for December open up soon.....mid May I think. Best to book your flights at 6am on release day for the cheapest flights. Good luck! :goodvibes

Thank you everyone! I can't quote responses on my tablet...i figured it was the 8th we go back but was under the impression the days before labour day would be PD days that we would have to attend training or conferences.

I'm with the a Greater Essex board (Windsor area) & we were already sent an e-mail indicating there would be at least 1 PD session which could occur any time that week before labour day :/. We had to provide proof of non-refundable vacation expenses (a Disney reservation wouldn't cut it, it had to be something like non-refundable airfare etc.). We were given a cutoff date to provide documentation. I figured this would be the case & made sure to book us before that final week even though we would have preferred a later date for lower crowds. You need to contact HR. I read your e-mail assuming you are a teacher - if not then disregard everything I just said ;)

I am not a teacher but an EA. I was just hired so if we had an email like that i would have missed it. I do not yet have a position for Sept but i am being proactive! I will just plan on being back for the ebd of august.

I'm a teacher in PEI, and we have been scheduled for some PD/Orientation for teachers and EAs in the week prior to Labour Day as well. We are not able to get out of going, it is completely mandatory. I booked with Disney last year, but I wouldn't book my flights until I'd heard, and now I'm just waiting for a good flight. :)

And I have to say that I love your Dis name... my students call me Madame too. :)

Thank you. I will check out flights. But I have a feeling it will be too expensive to fly at Christmas.
If flights are pricey on release day, keep checking back. We actually scored our December tickets with Southwest in October last year.

We flew this past Christmas..We ended up going earlier than planned using Airmiles for the flight down because the cost was crazy. We also had planned to come back Jan 2..but stayed until the 4th..again because it was very expensive. I would rather spend more to stay at Disney than more to fly home..lol.
