I was going to be getting a MYW package through Disney but changed my mind and decided to stay off property and buy tickets through UT. Do I still get magic bands? If not, what is the process? Can I buy second hand Magic Bands??

If you want them you will have to buy them and link them to your MDE account. You do not have to have them. For offsite guests they are only a convenience for park entry and FP+. Onsite guests get the perk of charging to their room using their Magic Bands. I don't know if you can link used MB to your MDE account. Cheers!!!

No you don't get Magic Bands if you stay off site. You can buy them from Disney. I wouldn't buy second hand ones.

I pretty sure Magic Bands can be reassigned, so second hand isn't a possibility.

You cannot reassign a used MB so do not buy a second hand one. Since you are staying offsite you can purchase a new MB if you wish or you can just use your ticket at the park entrance and for FP+. MBs are convenient, but not required.

There are ways to buy a new unlinked band. www.yourwdwstore.com sells them, but they are at a higher price. I bought a Mickey tourist band that has Mickey on it wearing the sorceror's cap and holding a mickey bar on one side and the other has 2015... I got it from Ebay and the seller lived in Florida. He was even nice enough to throw in first time buttons for me...

Most of the bands can be bought now and linked to MDE later. They do not have to be linked immediately.

So if you don't have Magicbands, you can't get any FPs at WDW? If so, that stinks...

No, as was stated, Magic Bands are a convenience, but not a necessity. If you're staying off property and don't want to buy a Magic Band, you just use your ticket at the FP readers.

Wait, so you can get FPs if you don't have a magic band then? I was under the impression that if you didn't have a magic band, FPs were out of the picture for you and all you could do was stand-by. Do you still get paper FP tickets (or I guess WDW people call them Legacy FPs) if you don't have a MB?

I don't know where you might have gotten the impression that guests without Magic Bands can't use FP+, but I would highly recommend reading the first two posts of this thread for everything you need to know about FP+:
