DVC studios, 5 people, will this happen?

Will Disney eventually align all of their DVC studios to sleep five people?

I certainly hope not- I like booking them for 2 and hate the lack of storage room when they add the bed in. I think BLT would be especially hard to do anything like this for. I wish they had left them alone and added to the 1 bedrooms instead.

It seem like that is their direction. Increase competition for studios, build more studios, the Mouse has a reason for everything.

It does look that DVC is heading in that direction. I would never book a studio for a family of five, even if the children were all under the age of five.

I really wish they added them to the 1 bedrooms as well. It may be fine for kids under 7 but after that it's not enough room and forces everybody to a two bedroom with more than 2 kids or 2 older kids who won't sleep in the same bed.

It baffles me. IMO, studios were designed for singles or couples. There was already so little room to move with the sofa bed open, and then they crammed an extra bed in. I can't even imagine what it's like with 5 people in there and all the beds open.

I remember when the big draw of DVC was the space.....for families tired of packing the whole crew into a small hotel room.

Seems like the tide has changed. The buy prices are so high, buyers are planning to stay in standard studios, Disney knows this so they are increasing the occupancy, building more studios to keep the sales numbers high and to increase attendance.

Next will be bunk beds.

I don't think they will ever do that at BLT. Those studios are too small. it is helpful for people that don't have a lot of points and don't mind staying 5 in a room. the deluxe resorts always slept five before there was Dvc. now they get the additional kitchen it.

Yes, it seemed that when OKW opened, studios "competed" with value rooms, 1BR to moderate and 2BR to Deluxe.

Now it is just studio to Deluxe.

Re: bunk beds
I always thought they looked a bit strange at Jambo (hotel rooms) but a number of guests love them because they offer more open floor space than a dual queen (or king?) room

I certainly hope not. I was a bit upset when they did it at VWL where we own. I think it cheapens the product. When you compare other timeshares, I don't think any others have studios that sleep 5. My two bedroom timeshare that I own in South Florida only sleeps six.

I hope they don't try something at OKW because they would have to find a wall long enough to put that stupid murphy bed. All the free walls have an angle on them.

I love it, we live two hours away so it allows us to go on more short trips. We have twins who are 7 and a five year old. It works perfectly. I can understand the point of view of people in different stages in their lives, but right now it's awesome for us.

Do you own at one of the resorts they are doing this to?

Yes, it works for you now. But ownership is a long term commitment. I bought VWL over 10 years ago and now it is not the product I bought and expected to use until 2042.

Still cannot believe DVC can get away with what they have done to VWL and BWV.

I too disagree completely with adding the 5th person to a studio. We too bought BCV over 10 years ago. When we were a family of 5 we went to a 2 bedroom. Now as empty nesters we enjoy(ed) studios for just the 2 of us. I hate the table/bed configuration

sorry if this was mentioned and I missed it earlier, but does anyone know if they are doing this in all of the studios? I would assume that BLT and animal kingdom value would not fit five in their studios?

We do not know if all of the DVC studios will be converted. I agree that BLT and the AKV values would be tight, so hopefully they will not be changed.

Everyone has a different opinion, obviously, but the studios sleeping 5 at GFV is what tipped us over the edge to finally buy DVC. (We have also stayed at all three studios that sleep 5--WL, GFV and Poly--and are eagerly looking forward to using our points soon for BWV and BCV.) For us, we are perfectly happy spending a week on top of each other in a deluxe hotel room at Disney, and there's really not much of a difference in room size or configuration between a deluxe room and a DVC studio. For me, the extra space would be nice if we stayed in a 1 or 2 bedroom villa--don't get me wrong--but I don't NEED that space, and I don't want to do laundry or cook while I'm on vacation.

I'd be very happy if all of the DVC studios were converted, but I will likely continue to keep Poly & GFV as our primary places to use points when we travel with our family of 5 due to the split bathrooms in the studios--that's a major bonus for us and is worth the premium points.
