Okay, so I'm on maternity leave and while I'm cuddling my 8 week old, he and I spend time reading the Disboards and planning his first birthday party (already! Yes, I know I'm getting ahead of myself but he's so precious I want it to be awesome! and an 8 week old sleeps a lot and Mommy needs something to keep her busy although she has been told to sleep while the baby sleeps.) I'm thinking of having a WDW theme. I have a feeling that Santa Claus will get him the Little People Magic of Disney, Day at Disney toy by Fisher Price found here that I could use for decorations or to put in a play area for him and his little friends:

I figured I could buy him a WDW 2016 shirt and some mickey ears for him to wear. (He will be taking his first trip to DW when he is 19 months old so he can wear it to the parks as well). I also thought I would ask a CM if I can have a blank Birthday Pin (during my next trip in September) for him to wear during his party.

Anyone got any ideas for a cake, decorations, etc? I would love to incorporate some of the rides/shows in the theme.... Any pic or ideas are greatly appreciated. :cake::thanks:

Think about your favorite rides and how to incorporate them- or about the rides you most look forward to taking him on.

If the children attending are big enough- most 1 year olds are not ready to really play games with others (it depends on you philosophy on parties and siblings/friends ect) you could:

Dumbo- Stuffed Elephant riding relay- children ride(hold) a stuffed elephant while running a certain distance and back to hand it off)
Tomorrowland Speedway- have each child choose a matchbox car to race across a track (or section of a low table)

If you have a slide(playset in your yard) you could make drawings to put in to make it feel like sliding down your favorite coaster (so circus things for barnstormer/old mining and rocks for Thunder, ect)

For Food/Drinks to theme is:
Use a variety of teacups to server adults/older children (if you have plastic ones you can use them for children as well)

That's what i can think of off the top of my head- but having answers to favorite rides from above would help bounce more ideas for food, ect.

:thanks:I love these ideas! Thank you. My little one has a sister who will be 15 and a brother who will be 8 when he turns 1. His sister loves the Rockin Roller Coaster and Tower of Terror. We all love Toy Story Mania and Buzz Lightyear Spin (we have lots of Toy Story toys), Peter Pan (his nursery theme), Pooh (his brother's favorite), Pirates of Caribbean and Mickey's Philhar Magic. I also think any Fantasy Land ride would be cute... Not sure we will play many games. I do like your ideas though so maybe will have a play area for kids without structured games. But would love to hear ideas for food/snacks, cake, and treat bags.

With the things you mentioned I think the easiest shaped cake would be a sorcerer's hat- you could bake round cakes in sizes and then layer and cut them down for the basic shape- to get a point at the top you might need to find a metal funnel to bake the top in. On the other hand you could make a plain flat cake and use small toys from one of the themes to decorate it.

If you have a sit and spin it might be good in the play area called a teacup or lightyear spin.

Food again depends on if you are just having snakcs or more of a picnic meal (I have been to both with 1 year old parties)

When we do parties like this instead of trying to make foods that look exactly like something we do more play offs on their names so that is what I am making suggestions on here:
Toy Story- Potato Head- Potato Chips could be called sliced Potato Head (or if doing a meal you could use small potatoes to do a buttered potato dish and call it baby potato heads, Buzz- Make a Green Punch and call it Alien or Lightyear Punch, Woody- Cowboy Burgers (if doing meal)

Pooh- Rabbit- Rabbit's Garden Salad, or Rabbit's Garden Veggie Tray, Pooh- Honey and Biscuits or Muffins

Pirates- Pretzel Swords (the sticks) and Dip (if you want red for the fire maybe a roasted tomato humus or a blueberry dip for the water)

Peter Pan- Tinkerbell- Cookies with Pixie Dust Sprinkles

PhilharMagic- Donald's Apple Pie

I will think some more but these are my first thoughts.

I love those ideas! I'm pretty good at making cakes so I think I could do the sorcerer's hat. I had also thought of maybe doing a cake in the shape of a mickey hat. I have a pan that would make the bottom shape and I could find a way to add the hat's ears.

I do have a sit and spin and I think your idea for using it as teacups is perfect. I also have a Wii game of Toy Story Mania so I thought of maybe having it hooked up to a tv for my 7 year old and his older cousins to play. I'd like to have three or four things to play so I can keep the different ages entertained.

I like the idea of making food/snacks be inspired by the attractions and not look like the attractions themselves. I did this with my 7 year old when he had a SKylander party. I had a candy table with candies inspired by the different characters. I like the idea of a picnic meal since for my kids 1st bdays I usually just have family and people that interact with my baby daily. I can have a "main course" and then have snacks/sides. I also think I will have the party at home. I live in the country so there is plenty to do outside plus I have a large picnic pavilion for food, if the weather is nice enough. With a picnic meal I can have a few snacks (love the idea of Rabbit Garden veggie tray) and Pooh's Honey biscuits. I could maybe add peanuts for Dumbo. My 7 year old had a pirate party once so I have lots of leftover stuff that I could do for Pirates of the Caribbean. The apple pie would please my DH and the cookies would please my DD. They don't care for cake so maybe I can do all 3 if I keep the cake small.

Thanks so much for your help!! This is getting me even more excited and is getting my creative juices flowing!
