2015 Magical, Magnificent, Mighty May WISH challenge! All are welcome!

QOTD for Tueday, May 5, 2015:

So, along with Cinco de Mayo, today is also National Hoagie Day! #nationalhoagieday For those unfamiliar with what a hoagie might be, it also comes with other names.... sub sandwich, grinder, hero. It is essentially a big sandwich full of meat and cheese and vegetables.

How do you make a nice HEALTHY, filling "hoagie" for yourself??? What do you use for bread? Protein? Veggies? Sauces/dressings??

BBL to chat! .................P

Hoagie Day! How fun!! Somehow, Germany is not big on highly filled sandwiches. We are more the country of open faced sandwiches. And not with a lot of fillings. When I grew up, the rule was that it was either meat OR cheese on a sandwich, never both. Or we put warm stuff in our breadrolls, like sausages or schnitzel or Bavarian meatloaf.

I try to avoid sandwiches like subs as I find that they come with a lot of bread that - while delicious - also brings a lot of calories... But one sandwich of that type still stands out in my memory as it was available at my university cafeteria during my year in London: baguette roll with hummus, sliced tomatoes and shredded iceberg lettuce. It was so delicious!!

Sorry to hear that. =( Hoping that May picks up for you! Just remember, when all else fails, you can make some delicious combinations of rice/beans/lentils/frozen veggies for cheap.

I forgot about rice and beans and lentils.... great suggestion!

Oh man, I've been struggling with this one for a while. Just based on MFP, I'm usually on/over my vit A/C, iron and calcium targets. Potassium, though? Don't get me started. I'm pretty sure those levels are always low despite my efforts. When they get really bad, I'll sometimes wake up to excruciatingly bad charlie horses in the middle of the night. I keep a container of potassium tablets next to my bed for when that happens because eating a banana in the middle of the night with a mouthguard in- recipe for disaster.

I wasn't aware that MFP can give you feedback on that. I might have to look into it. When my DD gets leg cramps and such I always remind her to eat a banana at her next meal, but she doesn't really like them. But I laughed at the mental picture of you trying to eat a banana at midnight while wearing your mouthguard! :D

I sometimes will take a vitamin D tablet when I feel blue, I find it perks me up a bit in the winter especially.

Multivitamins are reserved for days where my eating falls apart and there's no hope.

Sounds like you take care of yourself pretty well!

Doing well Monday-Thursday is great! Honestly, when I used to weigh myself once weekly it I'd usually do it Friday. I'm pretty good at eating clean during the week, but then blow it on the weekends. By weighing on Friday, you've got a whole week to lose any water retention you may have gained over the weekend (for me, one night of bad eating can equal a gain of about 5lbs overnight. Clearly not real weight, you just have to let your body get it all out). A nice accurate measure is to actually weigh every day and look at the average for the week. Helps with day-to-day fluctuations.

Some of us (myself included) just cannot handle the mental mind game of daily weigh-ins. You are absolutely RIGHT.... looking at the average for the week or the overall trend is good.... but I know it plays with my mind to see that I am up after a day or two of great eating and exercise. I think we ALL need to learn what works BEST for us regarding the scale and then STICK WITH IT!

I'm also a vegetarian, but I've never had problems with low iron or B12. I've never figured out why that is, considering how my diet used to be they should have been down the toilet. It's definitely good that you're keeping on top of it, though!

Meal prep Sunday!

Prep05-03-15.jpg

Black bean meatballs in tomato sauce, stuffed pasta shells, fruits and veggies and chocolate banana proats! My poor hardboiled eggs didn't get fully cooked somehow so those are out as a snack. I also made bread a little later (was craving it so bad and didn't feel like walking to the store- clearly making it is the easier option?) that I baked in a muffin tin for portion control. Please ignore the empty wine bottles top right. ;)

I didn't have the greatest weekend health wise (but it was fun!), went out with friends, aggravated my foot problems, felt generally awful after said night out. The foot part scared me away from the gym for a few days, but I went to see my trainer today and he forced me to stop whining and get to work. Also had a few tricks up his sleeve to stretch out the faschia in my calf, which alleviated a ton of the pain. I may pay him way too much money but I don't know what I'd do without him.

Your meal prep looks great AGAIN! And I love the idea of making bread in muffin tins for portion control!!

Glad your trainer was able to help!

Hey all! Today is FLYING away from me! I wasn't called to work at school, but it is an WW meeting night for me. I need to get some housework done, take my walk, do my plank, and perhaps make some soup for the freezer before showering and heading off to work later this afternoon!

I'll try to pop on again after lunch!................P

Hahaha they have a day for everything nowadays! A year ago this would have been a high holy day for me, but today while following a flex paleo diet I would definitively opt for a nice sized wrap. I put one together in MFP.. A little high on the Sodium, but that's coming from the Walden Farms chipotle mayo.

Crazy busy today. Just left youngest to football (soccer) training, picking up eldest to go organize her wedding flowers ( 17 years between oldest and youngest with 1 more in the middle). Love a good sandwich though :). Tend to use wholegrain bread lots of veg and then some chicken breast with a smidgen of sweet chilli sauce instead of butter or mayo. Delicious :)

I like a good turkey hoagie with a slice of provolone and lots of spinach and tomato. A touch of italian dressing to top it off. :)

Busy weekend full of hard labor. Moved my mom to her new apartment. Had some help from friends of mine with vehicles and lifting. Glad its done. I don't think she is that happy at her new place but she waited until last minute and I kinda helped her find this one. It has a little tiny kitchen but I think it will work. Not great that it doesn't have washer and dryer like she is used to.

I was down more when I weighed in Friday. WOOHOO TOM promptly showing up after moving my mom but I'm just glad it will be over with before our little trip to South Dakota.

NO NO NO!!!!!! Hang on, my inner Jersey girl is coming out............ A hoagie is a very specific sandwich. Hard salami, capicola, boiled ham, provolone cheese, shredded lettuce., tomato, and thin thin thin onions, and oil and vinegar with oregano in it. And it's on a specific Philadelphia style roll.

Which btw, I get at a local place that makes real philly style hoagies. Or if I need to I will slum to Subway and get a turkey with lite mayo, lettuce and tomato on 9 grain honey oat. But I really try not to go there.

I have not had a hoagie today but almost everything else in the house :( Not being able to stay on track this week. Stress eating and I know I shouldn't but it takes over me. Just down point 6 so far but probably gained it back and more.

Sounds good! And thanks for sharing the NI too!!

Your life is all over the place right now! Mother of the bride??! How did I not realize that? The sweet chili sauce sound yummy!

Tasty sandwich.... sounds like what I get at Subway!

I knew SOMEONE would call me to task about the word "hoagie"! Blame the internet. I realized that a hoagie was probably specific to a region and type of sandwich, but I just didn't know what or where. We grew up with "italian grinders" in Mass.

What don't you like about Subway? Maybe you know something I don't. I don't mind the place.... it tends to be my "default" stop when I am out and in need of a quick meal.

I have not had a hoagie today but almost everything else in the house :( Not being able to stay on track this week. Stress eating and I know I shouldn't but it takes over me. Just down point 6 so far but probably gained it back and more.

Are you weighing every day? Just curious. ANyhow.... sorry the stress eating took over. Find something to help the stress situation! And remember.... if hunger isn't the question, food isn't the answer!

************************

Hey all! I'm on early today because I have to be to school early, as I am subbing in the office the rest of this week. Not sure how much computer time I will have.... it will depend on how busy the office gets. But I didn't want to miss out on a chance to chat and say good morning!

I'll try to pop on during the school day!......................P

I aim for 6 glasses of water a day but when it's cold I tend to drink tea/ herbal tea to stay hydrated. I find drinking a glass of water before each meal and then another with each meal means I hit my 6 a day without too much trouble :)

I love it how chatty we are in May!! :goodvibes Sorry, for another quick post without replies though...

I still feel like I am doing well. This morning I had to adjust the band on my bra to make it tighter. Good sign!! Especially since I know that this bra was very uncomfortable in January.

I also had an eating success on Monday. Went out for a meal before our film with friends and I had decided before that this was the meal to use my weekly extra. I did that, had a lovely burger with fries. Loved it! And yesterday I was totally back on plan. I was very proud of me to be able to budget for a splurge meal without going over board and without using it as an excuse to go down a sliding scale.

In not so good news: My foot hurts... I had a similar pain last week and thought it was gone. Now it is back. I will see how I feel tomorrow, but I might have to try to see a doctor about it. I am afraid that I willl be told to not do any exercise that involves the foot. And my main exercise is running and walking! Arg! And I am supposed to run a 5k with my sister on May 16. It is her first 5k!

QOTD:
I always drink a lot. My mother even tells the story that she was worried about me drinking so much and asked the pediatrician about it as she had heard that toddlers who drink a lot do so because they are sad :-)confused: - the kind of myths that were around in the 70s are sometimes astonishing...). My pediatrician told her that she should be happy that I know how to stay hydrated!

I have a sodastream machine (which puts bubbles into tap water) at work and at home and I always drink at least two bottles per day. each bottle is about 900ml, so two bottles already cover nearly the recommended water of two litres. One of my problems is that I often don't drink regularly enough. I have recently thought about how I could ensure to not guzzle one bottle in half an hour and then sit around and not drink anything for three hours. So, there is always room for improvement!

I gave up all diet sodas last summer after I read an article how there is new research that the artificial sweeteners changethe bacteria in your intestines so that you can absord your food better and therefore can make it harder to lose weight. It was hard for about two months. Now I am not even thinking about getting a diet drink anymore. I totally lost all appetite for it! I still get a soda craving now and then and maybe have a glass once or twice a month and enjoy it. A week ago or so, Coke Life was launched in Germany and I have looked at it. It uses 2/3 of sugar in regular Coke and replaces the rest with stevia. I think I will try it to see what it tastes like. But then Germany has quite an active market on "boutique" organic sodas that already come with far less sugar than Coke products and I like those. I am not a fan of overly sweet things anyway...

Trith, your meal planning rocks! :rockband:

Thanks! I've found that it really helps curb the mid-week 'doesn't feel like cooking, get pizza' feelings I'm porne to. ;)

Your meal prep looks great AGAIN! And I love the idea of making bread in muffin tins for portion control!!

Glad your trainer was able to help!

It won't quote your quote within a quote for me. =P As far as daily weighing goes: I see where you're coming from, daily WIs can be a real mental game. For me, I find them helpful because it's helped me notice trends in my fluctuations. I'll retain water when I eat too many carbs/too much salt, my weight will go up the day after heavy lifting workouts, or will drop after heavy cardio days. It's not for everyone, and as you said we all need to find what works for us. =)

I have not had a hoagie today but almost everything else in the house :( Not being able to stay on track this week. Stress eating and I know I shouldn't but it takes over me. Just down point 6 so far but probably gained it back and more.

...6/10lbs

Those days are the worst. But also the most fun. ;) 0.6 is great!

QOTD- Coffee. Coffee is how I stay hydrated.

But if we're talking water, I do okay but not great. I keep a big bottle at work and try to drink a bit in between patients. I also keep a big glass full beside my computer that I continuously sip at when I'm home. I stopped drinking sodas when I was a teenager and I'm not a fan of sugary juices.

I figure as long as my pee is pale yellow I'm doing okay.

I'm off work today after working on call last night. Slept in, should probably go to the gym and might go bra shopping later. My bands have gotten a bit looser and the cups a bit roomier than I'd like recently and when I remeasured myself I think I'm down to a 30FF from 32G (woe is the loss of cup size). Besides that, I have no plans at all besides relaxing.

WELCOME TO YOUR QOTD for Friday, May 1, 2015:

What are you going to commit to doing EVERY DAY in the month of May? Think about a goal you can achieve..... tracking? A one minute plank? A mile of walking? Taking your multi-vitamin? Flossing?

PICK something to stick with for EVERY DAY in May and share it here!!.....................P

I am commit to making sure I eat veggies everyday .. Weekends tend to be harder for me - but I was away and there was a fresh salad both Sat and Sun last weekend so it was a no brainer.. I am also going to read at least 15 pages in my book.. :)

QOTD for Saturday, May 2, 2015:

So William and Kate have had their baby girl! princess: How WONDERFUL! Going on the assumption that they name her "Diana" (which I fully believe they should), what DISNEY PRINCESS middle name should they give her???? After all.... she really IS a princess, so she should have a PRINCESS name, right???

I actually think the name they gave her is awesome, I am so glad they worked Diana in there.. she would be so proud of how her boys turned out..

Good Monday Morning!!

Today's QOTD is in honor of #nationalorangejuiceday !!

How do you make sure that you get the proper vitamins and minerals? Do you take supplements? Do you try to eat vitamin-rich foods? Or is this something that isn't even on your radar currently?

I'm off to drink my coffee and eat my oatmeal and pack up my lunch! I'll pop on tonight AFTER my walk!...................P

I take a multi vitamin but that's about it..

Ham, cheese, light onion, tomato, spinach, lettuce, cuke, pickles, light olives, light mayo with S&P.. I can eat this on a low carb wrap but prefer it on a 6" soft white roll..
