Kind of strange that they would make a new Kong attraction after getting rid of one already.

Just heard the Kong announcement is tomorrow, can't wait for all the details!

There is a new Kong/Skull Island movie out in 2017 starring Tom Hiddleston, Micheal Keaton , Jk Simmons....The remake a few years back was also wildly successful .It is a classic and will be a great addition.

I can't wait to hear when it will open...gives me an excuse to plan a new trip...not that I need one...I love the darkside  there's always something new in the works.

May 6, 2015) – King Kong will rule at Universal Orlando Resort next year in the groundbreaking attraction, "Skull Island: Reign of Kong."

The new attraction will open in the summer of 2016 at Universal’s Islands of Adventure – and will be an intense, all-new adventure brought to life in a dramatically themed environment. Skull Island: Reign of Kong will pull guests into a powerfully told story where they become part of the next generation of the Kong legend.

It begins as guests are transported deep into a wild and mysterious world, where their mission is to discover creatures of unknown origin – but where they are soon fighting for their own survival. Their journey will take them through an ancient temple inhabited by hostile natives, a perilous jungle ruled by prehistoric creatures, a foreboding underworld of caves concealing unspeakable terrors – and face-to-face with the colossal Kong himself.

Universal Creative is working closely with Peter Jackson, famed director of 2005’s blockbuster movie, “King Kong,” to immerse guests in this incredible adventure.

"King Kong is a Hollywood movie legend and a huge part of both our history and our future," said Mike West, Executive Producer, Universal Creative. "He gives us the opportunity to tap into everything that makes our film history so special and everything that makes our theme park attractions so spectacular. We can’t wait to bring him to life in such an epic way."

Known as "the eighth wonder of the world," Kong has been called "the experience for which movies were invented." Since first appearing on screen in 1933, "King Kong" has been re-made twice - each time on a tremendous scale – earning seven Oscar and three Golden Globe nominations.

And now – in even grander and more realistic form – the Kong story continues to grow. "Skull Island: Reign of Kong" will open in the summer of 2016. More details about the mega-attraction will be released over time. Visitwww.universalorlando.com/ReignofKong for more information.

We can't wait! We've been aware it was coming for a long time now, but the details sure sound exciting.

Kong combines all of the major advances in theme park technology of the past decade into one massive attraction. From completely immersive atmospheres, massive sets, state of the art trackless ride vehicles, advanced animatronics, seem-less multimedia integration, effects never seen before, and conclude with a face to face encounter with Kong himself,

And interview with fox "Riding in the largest vehicle ever created for this type of attraction by Universal—an over-sized 72-seat truck-- guests will enter the multifaceted trip through a 70-foot high wall into the depths of Kong’s jungle. Though West wouldn’t give exact specifications on the size of the attraction, he noted that it will contain indoor and outdoor segments and is gearing up to be one of the biggest facilities ever built by the entertainment giant."

“I don’t know the total time from start to finish, but I do know it will be one of the longest rides we’ve ever done.”

When I was there in Jan I got a birdseye view from pterandon flyers..The footprint for this ride is MASSIVE and it is going to be impressive

Other info coming out says that the ride vehicles are trackless, and that only a small part of the ride will have you put on 3d glasses. The outdoor portions and some of inside won't require glasses. And more confirmation that it is a longer ride, with animatronics and massive sets. It is entirely different from Kong 360 in Hollywood.

There will be live drivers/guides on the vehicles and the hegiht requirement is 34 inches
