Marathon Weekend 2016

Hi all - I'm considering registering for the 2016 Marathon, which would be my first marathon - eek! I've only started running/training seriously about a year ago. I've completed 4 half marathons and several 10k races at this point, but I'm still a run-walk person, so I'm trying to decide if it would be totally crazy to try for my first marathon at this point. I have a milestone birthday coming up in 2016, and would love to say I'm a marathoner by that age. But, I'm also trying to keep my rD budget in check because I am determined to get to the inaugural Disneyland Paris half weekend in Sept. 2016.

To pile on with everyone else; yes, you can finish a marathon and it would not be crazy to set your sights on the 2016 WDW marathon. I had only run one half marathon before signing up for my first marathon and was able to finish, so extensive experience is not really a requirement. Having finished those four half marathons will certainly give you an understanding of the task running a marathon represents. Preparation and training are key, but force of will is always what gets a runner through on the day.

Whether you should sign up is a much more complicated question that no one else can really make for you; there is just no reason for 26.2 miles to be an obstacle.

Hi all, I'm a newbie here. I've occasionally searched for info but never posted. Now that I have a dilemma I'm seeking some help...So I registered for the half marathon for my friend and I under my active.com account. I did my friend first, which required me changing my account info to his name. No problem, went thru and received an email confirmation to my email with HIS name being registered. I did my registration next, changed my account info back to my name and received an email confirmation with MY information. I checked the next day and BOTH of our registrations are under my name. I see that Disney very strict about not allowing transfers but I guess this really isn't a transfer, I did register us separately, just under my account. I've tried making changes on active.com but it will not allow me. I've called runDisney but didn't get thru to a human, I was able to leave a message, just waiting for a callback. Do you think they change his reservation back to his name? Any other suggestions on how to solve this problem. TY.

Just making sure I understand - you have two confirmation emails with two different names, correct?

Once you can get a real human on the phone at rD, they should be able to make the fix for you no problem. I believe this has happened before and has been easily reconciled.

I am not saying anything others are not, but I just had to respond. There is almost nothing inexpensive about a RunDisney event, but there are ways to keep it reasonable - bring food, stay at a value resort or off-site, etc. Eight months is plenty of time to get prepared for a marathon and and my experience with RunDisney is that it is a super supportive environment, you do not have to be a speed demon. Most folks are there to enjoy the parks and Disney magic and have a good run. I ran the marathon, as my first marathon, last year and I loved my experience. Find a plan that makes sense for you, put in the work and you will be set! Good luck!

I agree about the affordability of running a Disney race, the race itself and race merchandise are always going to be expensive when compared to other races but everything else is very manageable if you care to do so.If you don't want to go that way Disney knows how to make you spend thousands of dollars in just a couple of days, but you don't have to.As Baloo mentioned you can stay off site or do a value resort, between the getting up at 2-3am for the races, visiting the expo,DTD,visiting a resort for a meal you barely have the time and energy to step foot inside a park if you want to skip the expensive theme park tickets. For MeridaAndAngus you're already way ahead of me if you're considering the Disney full to be your first full.My first race ever was the Disney full marathon several years ago, when I say first I don't mean first marathon, I mean first race ever,no 5K's,no 10K's or halfs.I did enough training to make me believe I could finish it and although not easy the 26.2 miles at Disney were a lot easier than the 18 mile long run I did before on my own.Disney is the perfect first marathon, there's so much going on to keep you entertained throughout. It's still my favorite race ever and the only one I know I'll be doing every year.I did Goofy last year which was my first half at Disney and although it's still cool it's not as cool as the full, you run through pretty much everything at WDW, that's why I love it.

Yes, I have two confirmation emails with two different names. However, when I go to check registration it doesn't show my friends name but it shows that I registered twice.

Best bet is to call runDisney and talk with someone and make sure both of your names are registered. But also check it here first:

Yes, I see my name listed once. My friends name says no registrations found. I have two seperate email confirmations and was charged twice. Still waiting to get a return call from runDisney, I suppose I can call again...the squeaky wheel gets the grease.

Hi all! It looks like I have some catching up to do but wanted to introduce myself. We are registered for the full in January (our first)! I am doing my first half in November and I am still pretty new to running. I suppose you could say I lost my mind in signing up for this but the minimum pace is well over my standard so at least I can finish lol. I panicked a little when they opened registration after it was so stressful to get signed up for the Wine & Dine half that I just did it. At least I have something major to train for now and can keep on going. Looking forward to talking with you all :)

I'm doing something similar (trying to run my first half shortly after I hit the big 3-0), and I think it gives you an extra special reason to stick with your training.

I did the same thing and ran the princess half a month after my 30th :) It really helps cushion the transition!!

I've seen this happen a ton of times on other boards and everyone has said they fixed it. Just wanted to tell you so that you don't stress until you hear back!

Welcome and good luck on your first marathon! Fairly new myself but thought I would say hi! You picked a perfect first marathon race. :)

You haven't lost your mind - you've made a great decision!!!

I haven't run a full yet myself and I let people on here talk my into Dopey for 2016!

This is a GREAT group. I'll be at Wine & Dine too - hope to meet you there!

Okay, if you don't hear back from them, email worked for me. I'm surprised you aren't listed twice. But in your case, I'd keep calling as talking with someone through the process will help.

Just looked goofy is at 93
Full is at 70
I'm thinking they took Goofy spots this year and added Dopey. Just because of how things went last year but I guess people's feelings and ideas could have changed in the amount of money or running they want to do

Seems very unlikely that Goofy has the same number of slots as last year. I think adding the slots to the half and full marathon would be easier than adding them to Dopey because of the resulting requirement to either take away individual slots from the 5K and 10K or make them even larger races. The full being at "only" 70% right now makes me think most of the dial back on Goofy may have gone that way rather than to Dopey. Either way I think last year made it clear that the demand for Goofy was being cannibalized by Dopey and that reallocating Goofy slots earlier was probably a smart move.

I know it's going to sound silly, but I'm having some serious rD buyers remorse over here.

NO! Not over Dopey - I'm actually really excited and proud of myself for even biting the bullet and signing up. If I had gone with just Goofy, like I was planning, I think I'd be sitting here feeling sad that I was missing out on the 5k and 10k.
