Tips for staying cool

We're leaving for WDW in 9 days and looks like it will be mid-90s when we arrive. I know it can change, and I know it can always be hot in Florida, but it's a little warmer than I was hoping (last time we went in May is was mid-80s which is still hot but seems much better than 90s!). So how bad is mid-90s in Florida?? Any tips for staying cool in the parks? We have the spray bottle fan but I need to find it! A few years ago I saw someone mention a small portable fan for the stroller. Does anyone recommend this and if so any particular brand you recommend? We're ordering cases of water so we'll freeze some to take into the park. Any other tips?? Thanks!

Also, something I was just reminded of...while you know to wear less clothing..shorts, tank tops, etc. Avoid wearing your dark clothing and shoes. I almost forgot about that and was about to pack my son his Darth Vader shirt...it's all black...that would have been bad!

We always have a small lunch-bag sized cooler that we keep frozen water bottles inside. The night before the park I soak a couple of wash clothes in water and then freeze them in a zip lock bag. It's very refreshing to pull one out when it's hot out to cool off your face, neck, etc.

Misting fans are good. If you can’t find yours, Wal-Mart has them. Also Disney does have them. When we got ready to leave last time I waited until the last minute to pull ours out and realized they were done; so as soon as we got to MK, I got a Disney one. It already had ice water in it.

My son had a fan on his stroller I got from Wal-Mart. It worked really well once he left it alone. At Wal-Greens I saw these Disney themed fans for children that didn’t use blades. In addition to our mister my daughter and I had miniature fans I attached to our lanyards that don’t mist. Those were great to use in line.

We also had the frog togs; but never had to pull it out last trip. We also took breaks to hydrate and get cool. A few minutes in a store or a well-timed ride or show often did the trick. We also tried to spend as little time as possible standing in direct sunlight.

Our touring style helps too. People subscribe to being in the parks either early or late. My children are young; so we are a rope drop crew. DHS and AK in particular we do from open until 1pm or 2 and then back to the resort, usually for some pool time until dinner. There are large misters in the parks too.

Thank you so much for all of the ideas everyone! Luvmy2babies...where did you find fans small enough to attach to your lanyards?

I got those at Wal-Mart too; but various places have them. They come in different colors.

I had a blue one. My daughter had a pink one. In 2012, I got them from Wal-Greens; but their availability there is sporadic at least at ours.

Also here is a link to various images of personal fans. You should be able to click on a photo to get to a website where it's available.

Just be sure to drink lots of water- like 3 or 4 liters- throughout the day. And drink some sort of electrolyte replacement, like Gatorade or powerade, at least 500 mL. I was pregnant in summer and I had the worst time with getting dehydrated and having my electrolytes out of whack.

Here's a couple of examples of stroller fans.

And of course never let it be said they lose out on any opportunity, Disney also sells them in the parks.

And to echo what the previous poster mentioned, we had several different ways to hydrate and took the opportunity to do so early and often. It's too easy to get caught up in the fun and forget. Even certain fruits help.

One thing we did was buy a couple of filtered water bottles. They were around $10 a piece at Best Buy. We were able to fill it up at the drinking fountains all day long and they worked great. No telling how much money it saved us from buying the actual water bottles at the park but I'd guess $50 on the low side. This is the specific brand we got but there are several makers of this type of product:

Thank you everyone! I ordered the mini fan and stroller fan on Amazon and bought the Frogg Togg at the store today. I figure we could use a few cooling tricks between the five of us! I really appreciate everyone's suggestions!
