Time to get down to brass tacks - Cabins at Fort Wilderness, good choice?

I stayed in the cabins back in 2009 with my family of 5. I have to be honest and say I didn't love it. The cabin itself was cute and I really enjoyed parking right outside the front door, but I didn't like having to take the golf cart or internal bus every time we went to the pool or the ferry dock. (I would not recommend staying there without a car and golf cart.) There was also very little storage and felt like we were tripping over our suitcases all the time. I expected the area around the cabins to be prettier than it was. It was very dry and brown. The pool area is okay but nothing special. I think 6 people would be very cramped in there. Would your 80 year old mother in law be ok with sharing a double bed with one of your daughters? The bedroom is small!

I know you said you want onsite but have you ever checked out Wyndham Bonnet Creek? It's a gorgeous, very affordable resort right next to the Caribbean Beach Resort. We stayed there on our two trips following our FW Cabin stay and we were much, much happier. 2 bedroom units with full kitchen, balcony (one year our view was of the lake and two sets of Disney fireworks!), washer/dryer, 2 bathrooms, plus 6 nice pools, mini golf, etc.

I agree the bedroom lacked storage. We kept a lot of our clothes in the tall pantry cabinets in the kitchen and the built ins under the windows.

Thanks both of you. Good insight. I was debating renting a cart, but at 70 a day, I think I will try the buses. We are driving, so we will have a car.

My kids are all still very small, so they can even share the bunk beds. :)

We stayed off site 2 years ago, and loved it but wanted to be onsite at least once. :)

We stayed in the cabins with a family of 7 back in 2011 and we didn't feel cramped. Our sleeping arrangements were like this;
11 yo Boy/Girl twins shared the bunk bed
my mom and 5 yo son shared the full bed in the same room as the bunk bed
My husband and I shared the Murphy bed (we were comfortable on it)
My 1yo son slept in a pack n play
There was a mirror/vanity area in the bedroom that keeps the single bathroom manageable. The full kitchen, living room and dining table is great for lager groups!
I am sure you will enjoy it!
