Converting unused QS meals to snack credits

Just an FYI:

You CAN convert unused Quick Service credits to snack credits.
Though, it depends on what you get for your snacks for how many snack credits it converts to.

Basically:

1 QS = 3 snack credits - If obtaining from dining area ONLY (bakery, small soups, etc.)
1 QS = 2 snack credits - If obtaining marchandise snacks (pre packaged like from Goofy & Co.)

The dining area is the only one that has the capability for converting. So you can't go to the gift shop and try to get a wider selection of merch. snacks there.
I did not ask if you could combine dining snacks and pre packaged snacks.

The attached photo is what we got from POR dining with 2 unused quick service credits.
Available options will, of course, vary by resort.

Just to add, I just had to do this last week. Got 3 snacks per QS meal credit, at the Contemporary Contempo Cafe. But I did not know it was only 2:1 at the gift shops, good to know.

I don't believe that you can actually convert the credits into a different type of credit, what you are actually doing is redeeming a QS credit and receiving snacks instead...you still won't be able to convert QS credits for use at the Food and Wine Festival kiosks, for example, because they are unable to redeem QS credits at all.

And it's possible that not all QS will allow this in exactly the same way.

So, do you convert them AND redeem them at one time, or convert them THEN redeem them? I had heard of folks going to concierge to get them converted on their magic bands, but maybe I was mistaken? I do know that last time we had the dining plan, we left with at least one unused CS credit - would have been fun to take a candy or two home.

You can't convert them to a different type of credit and have them stay in your account, but some places (usually QS restaurants or food courts in resorts) will allow you to redeem a QS credit for 2 or 3 snacks. Ask at the cashier what you can get per credit before you start assembling things.

You aren't converting. You are redeeming them as an "a la carte," or build-your-own quick service meal. The idea is that you could get three "snack" items, such as a yogurt, a bagel, and a bottle of water as a "meal." In general, this only works at resort food courts. One person's experience should not be taking as confirmation, because it will vary by resort and even the CM working the register. What would be helpful, however, is a picture of the receipt.

Thank you both of you! Or All or you I should say! I'll keep that in mind if we have a credit or two left over (we share lots of meals).

The items we got were not at the gift shop but only at the quick service dining at our resort.

Our experience was we first inquired with one CM about converting (they used the word converting) and she said 3 items.
After eating we went to the gift shop and tried 'converting' the credits there, but the CM (register near food stuffs) said they don't have the ability to do that, ony the dining did. But she said she would hold the items if we could convert and come back.
So we went back to the dining area and talked to them (different CM then before), which is when they said we could not use at gift shop because it's separate from dining. When confirming quantity, the CM we were speaking to talked to another CM at a register to double check it was only 2 snack credits. This is when I got clarification about the 2 or 3 item difference. She said that's how it's been and that the other CM didn't elaborate on the system. Which is true since we were rather hungry when asking lol

So, as of RIGHT NOW, this info is correct at POR for sure. I assume it is also the same policy at other resorts. But not sure about QS at the parks.

Edit: and when I say right now, I mean that this all took place today (same date of posting)

Last night we had one QS credit remaining on our account. The cashier at the food court at CBR suggested without us asking that we use it for 3 snacks. "Just get three snacks when you're ready and bring them to a cashier." I went to the gift shop and picked three snacks and the cashier said I could not go that, but to go to the concierge and he could convert them then use them. Go to concierge, no can do. The snacks has to be from the dining area.

There is no official policy in any of the dining plan brochures about redeeming snacks with CS credits so it is up to each venue to allow or not allow it. The most likely places that will allow it are the food courts at the resorts, but even there it will vary with 1, 2 or 3 snacks per CS credit. And it can vary with the CM so each person's experience might be different. Likewise, the concierge at a resort will not do it; it must be done by the food court cashier.

Has anyone had any luck using left over QS at downtown Disney to buy snacks to take home???

A gift shop cannot accept QS credits, so the only way to get snacks from a gift shop with those is to actually have the credits themselves changed to a different type of credit. Which Rusty says that the concierge can do, they just often refuse to do it. So you'd need to plan to get your snacks from a food court or dining venue, not a gift shop. and yes, it can vary even according to which cashier you ask, so what the OP was allowed to do at POR may not be what the next guest will be allowed to do at POR, or what a guest will be allowed to do at CBR or the Polynesian.

This is because trading QS for snacks is not an official policy of the dining plan that applies everywhere. It's something that the resorts are apparently allowing guests to do. they may use the word "converting" but technically the credits themselves are not changing. You are just being allowed to use that credit to purchase something other than the designated items the credit is supposed to cover.

Does anyone know if this could be done in somewhere like Sunshine Seasons in Epcot? I often prefer the snacks to the entrees and would love to be able to do We were not able to do it at Beach Club Marketplace last year. We just got the drink and dessert part of meal (no extra snack to replace entree).

Unlikely, but you can try. The resorts have the most success.

awhile back there were some reports that a few food courts would ONLY trade for particular items covered by a "continental breakfast:" one beverage, one baked good, and a piece of fruit. The reporting posters were saying that it HAD to be a single piece of fruit; they couldn't select a fruit cup instead.

The thing to do is ask a cashier what you can trade your QS for in the way of snack items, before you start assembling the snack items. I saw a guy flip out at the Polynesian once because he loaded up a tray, went to the cashier and they wouldn't let him trade QS credits for ANY snacks. Apparently he had been allowed to do it somewhere else, or on another trip.

No. I highly doubt you could exchange credits for snacks at Sunshine Seasons. The only documented success is at resort food courts.

Has anyone done this at the yacht and beach club or Boardwalk resorts? We always end up with QS meals over
And again, I don't believe either of those resorts have a food court. Ask first, but I doubt it.

My experience was that some could/would do it, but there is no official policy. Our success was not very good in Nov/Dec 2014. I got bounced around from person to business, etc... Some said it could be done, but that they themselves couldn't. Ultimately I was told it was up to the Manager of the establishment to allow it or not.

I got the sense that the business had to be able to otherwise accept QS as well as "Snack" services and that they were essentially making an "Equivalent" exchange. I do know that the "Snack" has to be of a value of $5.00 or Less otherwise it's not a snack. So based on that I can see the 2 or 3 snack exchange based on what the business has for snacks.

It makes sense that Food courts would allow this exchange of multiple snacks for a QS but that a "Gift Shop" may not.

I do not believe that a concierge can or will "Convert" these. It seems that if they could that it would be an official policy somewhere. So if you managed to get a concierge to convert for you, then I think you should consider yourself lucky and an exception.

Your best bet, if you think you are going to have extra QS's at the end of your trip, is to try and convert them early on instead of using your actual snacks, that way at the end if you want to take the "Snacks" on the go, you already have them without trying to convert them (and possibly failing, like we did).

Fortunately for us we were only out 2 QS from a 9 day trip with 5 of us (4 Adults, 1 Child), so not too bad.
