Are there any advantages to paying for the cruise early? My cruise is in December. Just curious. Thanks a bunch!

Lots....

Help you budget.
Can't book shore trips until you do.
If not from USA choose when to pay I saved $5000 on pre paying when the £ was high against the $. ( from over $1.70 to below $1.40).
You can get it back up to PIF date.
Avoid last minute security checks on your payment cards by Banks giving you a panic.
Pay regularly to budget.

We're paying ours monthly through the Disney credit card. The payment hits each month and gets paid...it's less than $200 so you hardly notice it! Come December, we'll be paid in full and we don't get hit with a last minute "you owe $1700!" :)

That's a great idea.

All but our first cruise and our upcoming Hawaii and Alaska cruises were booked after the PIF date, but when we used to go to WDW I would pay off our trips months in advance. It's nice having it paid for and out of the way. Honestly the interest rate on my Vacation savings account through my bank is a joke so I'd rather have the piece of mind then the extra 0.2% interest I earn by letting the money sit there.

We are cruising again in October and we're all paid for! I even deposited a large chunk of money into our onboard account. :) Now I'm free to save up for Alaska in 2016!

My family pays all vacations prior to packing our bags for any trip. It is just our motto. So when we went to Alaska on Disney in 2013, I had it planned out budget wise. Every month, I put money down on our cruise, and paid for the airlines. It was a great feeling, not to have to pay for the trip, after the trip. When we come home, we just go forward, and plan our next trip. Also, I purchase Disney gift cards with extra cash prior to the cruise, and take them with me for our onboard account. It has worked our very well.

I got to grab a cabana on SB! (gold cc member)pixiedust: Bet it wouldn't have still been there if I waited until my official due date! Also booked our palo dinner and brunch. So agree with others that paying early can benefit you for certain ressies if you are lucky enough to have even a small book ahead window!

Good for you.

Basically, just knowing it's paid for. Some cruises have the Paid in Full date after the date that excursions can be booked for some returning cruisers. And you can't book excursions unless you're paid in full. That would be a benefit.

This would be me - I would be too worried that I wouldn't get it paid off in time otherwise - and that way I had more money to spend elsewhere for the vacation

Good for you.
Thanks! this our first ( and probably only) time we will have a cabana . :beach: But due to DH recovering from an injury this spring, we thought would be good for him to have a designated spot to hang out( expect he will still be limping around - but the good news is he is still here:umbrella: and will eventually recover and so far Dr. s think he will be able to cruise (low-key/r and r type ) in aug( now fingers crossed no set backs that keep us from the cruise!):boat:
