Gasoline Smell on Verandah

We were on the Magic last week. For several days our verandah smelled like gasoline. If we opened our door our whole room stunk too. When I reported it several times I received a different answer from each CM. One said they were doing maintenance, another said it was the exhaust that was blowing back down with the wind (we were on deck 7) and another said it was from them cleaning. None of these would explain why it smelled like gasoline. I spoke to others around us and they experienced the same thing. Has anyone ever experienced this?

Oddly enough, there was a Cruise Critic thread about the smell of diesel fuel on verandahs several weeks ago. There was a lot of good information on that thread.

To clarify...

• port side or starboard side?
• the odour get worse when you are moving or docked?

We were on the 4/19 Magic sailing and had two balcony cabins on the port side of deck 7 (just forward of the aft elevators). Never noticed any smell on the balcony that wasn't typical of any other cruise we had been on. Caught the occasional smell of varnish, paint, exhaust, etc., but we didn't experience anything out of the ordinary for a cruise ship.

They were doing a lot of grinding and painting work on the railings on the promenade deck the week we sailed...

What ever may have been there, its no gasoline......There is no reason to use Gasoline on the cruises vessels today. Maybe something smelling similar.

We were on the Magic last week as well and in an oceanview stateroom on deck 7. I noticed fuel/oil smell every so often. I noticed they were doing work in the funnel where the Twist and Spout was a couple of times and that stunk bad of fuel/oil.
