I'm not new to Disney, but I am new to DVC. My DW and I will be staying for the first time as members in just a few weeks from today and staying in a studio at the VGF. With that said we will staying once again at the VGF next June to celebrate my DD's high school graduation. For this trip there will be a total of 8 family members going down ( I am stoked about this). Out of this group there are no children; the youngest will be 14 next year, the rest will be 18 and older, and out of this group two couples are married, the other 4 are single.

With all that said, what is the better option for our group, a 2 bedroom lock-off or a dedicated 2 bedroom villa? And what are really the differences and advantages between the two. :confused3

I would say the lock-off. When my kids were young enough that I did not want them to have an additional outside exit (other than the one main one in a dedicated villa), I would make sure NOT to get a lock-off. With 2 couples and older kids I think the lock-off would afford more convenience for all the comings-and-goings of a larger group. Have fun!

You get an extra pull-down bed in the 2 bedroom lock-off. The lock-off will be harder to book also. It is a combination of a one bedroom and a studio, and the studios are usually booked at the 11 month mark by VGF owners. I have booked a dedicated 2 bedroom at VGF twice. Both times, that was the only 2 bedroom option available at the 7 month mark, since I don't own VGF.

We loved our stay at VGF. Only complaint is the lack of the 3rd bathroom in the 2 bedroom villas - we are spoiled by that extra bathroom at BLT and Kidani village.

It really depends on how you plan on sleeping with everyone:

2 bedroom lockoff- 1 king bed in master, 1 queen bed- 1 pull down bed- 1 double sleeper sofa in 2nd bedroom, 1 queen sleep sofa and 1 pull down bed in living room.
so in this configuration 1 couple gets there own room and if the other couple gets the queen bed then there are 4 other separate (though not private) for each of the other people going. Almost no storage space is available for luggage in the 2nd bedroom that you would have 4 people sleeping in. The people in the 2nd bedroom will have a kitchenette with their own coffee maker.

2 bedroom dedicated- 1 king in master, 2 queen in 2nd bedroom, 1 sleeper sofa and 1 pull down bed in living room- so in this scenario 1 couple gets the king, 1 gets a queen and then 2 of the other 4 people share either a queen bed or a sleeper sofa and the others 2 could have their own beds. This provides more storage area in the 2nd bedroom. No kitchenette in the 2nd bedroom.

The pull down murphy beds are smaller than twin size beds and the mattress is the size of a bunkbed. My DH thinks he could sleep on it, but I think I would fall off as I move around at night. Here is my 5'!!" DH lying on a VGF murphy bed.

We got a lock off, at 7 months, but we only needed for two days, in mid June, Thursday and Friday. and we slept ten...ALL of the luggage went in the walk in closet of the master. No drawer space in the studio part . We also walked the reservation for two days as it showed up available then...and were successful, thankfully, we could've done a 2 bedroom, but alas we were ten although we only needed nine sleeping space cause we give the master to or daughter with he two young boys in the King bed. We slept in the living room.

Thanks for the information and opinions. I think for us it really doesn't matter which way to go; but with that said I think I prefer the dedicated 2 bedroom instead. I'm sure either way I won't have any problems getting which one we want. With this being in the month of June and the VGF my home resort I can't see not getting what we want at the 11 month mark.
