I miss the Maelstrom ride so much.

I personality disagree with Disney's choice to remove Maelstrom!! Frozen does not belong in the World Show Case!! If anything, it belongs in Hollywood Studios where there are more "cartoon"ie attractions. I've been going to Disney ever since i was two years old. My family always made appoint to ride Maelstrom, it was one of our favorite rides to do as a family. The last chance I got to ride it was in September 2014 right before they closed it for good. Very sad that they closed the ride and movie that truly belongs in the World Show Case.
Where in DHS do they have cartoonie attractions? Fantasyland is full of animated movies especially princess ones which is what frozen is.

There is only one of those there... Cartoonie shouldn't be a way to describe disney movies. Disney movies are better than that.
You could count the Bugs Life playground I suppose. The Little Mermaid?

I don't know if they meant to be rude. They are after all cartoons. ;)

No Cartoon based attraction in DHS?

Little Mermaid?
Beauty and the Beast?
Toy Story Mania?
Playhouse Disney Live?
Art of Animation?
Fantasmic?
Frozen Sing Along?
About 20 Meet and Greets?

When I think of cartoons I think of bugs bunny and things on Cartoon Network. Disney is feature animation. Pixar is computer animation. Fantasyland is really the best spot for a princess ride.

Don't disagree with that - but there is already LOTS of princess stuff in DHS. Plus princesses ABOUND already in World Showcase. Heck, it's the ONLY place on site you can meet Mulan.

The focal point of MK is a castle based on a princess, of which, directly behind is a land of Fantasy that is and always has been home to a number of princesses. The theme of this area is specifically geared towards fictional characters. What is happening in Norway is equivalent to the notion of axing Peter Pan's Flight in favor of Universe of Energy. It's inexplicable on every level.

The presence of princesses in WS have always been a side-show... not the main event. They've been a subtle, largely unnoticeable injection into the countries from which they supposedly hail, and for what my opinion is worth, I think it has been tastefully done throughout the years. It has never detracted from what WS is and has always stood for. Anna and Elsa are grabbing a red sharpie, crossing off the mission statement and rewriting it completely. You can't possibly justify what is happening in Norway simply because Snow White pops up in a side alley of Germany twice a day. Apples and oranges.

The simple justification for what is happening in Norway is $$$$$$$$$$$$$. Not because Donald and Daisy sign autographs in the back corner of Mexico, so why can't Anna and Elsa.

I clearly don't hate it as much as many of you. I would prefer it to stay more true to the nature of Epcot, but the point I try to get across is that something like this was inevitable, and i feel more "go with the flow" about it.
I wish that I could get to that. I still feel :badpc: . (That is directed toward Disney via MDE. ;) )

I think people will probably clutch their chests and die at this, but I think inserting characters (and rides) who live in the represented World Showcase countries makes perfect sense. Frankly, the World Showcase doesn't have a lot for kids to do. My dh and I might enjoy walking around, drinking and shopping, but the kids will tire of that. Having character themed attractions make great sense. It lures families into the World Showcase and reduces the lines on Test Track and Soarin' I'd love to see a Mary Poppins show (like Beauty and the Beast at HS) in England or even a Brother Bear ride in Canada. I think there are a lot of opportunities and I think most of us agree that EPCOT is light on attractions. The Maelstrom was okay, but it surely wasn't a tier 1 attraction. It was in no way on par with Test Track or Soarin'.

World showcase wasn't intended for kids to have a lot to do. I have no problem with character meet and greets in their respective countries but a frozen meet and greet building and ride is a bit much. World showcase is mainly a place for learning about countries and eating and of course drinking around the world. Disney makes a lot of money off those adults drinking in Epcot and kids can't drink obviously. Yes Epcot is light on attractions they should be adding more not replacing.

Well, I'm not a purest. I think evolution beyond its original purpose is fine. I understand why peoplem dislike the change, but they don't bother me. I love so many of the disney characters and I'd love to see representation of more them inside the park and considering EPCOTs dirth of attractions I like the idea of there being possibilities there.

Epcot is the park for original and futuristic ideas. MK and DHS are home to fantasy and animated things. If we had it uncle walts way Epcot would be a city and not a park.

I think that most kids can rise above needing instant gratification at all times. They can learn to appreciate the culture of other nations and different food and people with beautiful accents. I personally don't mind a few characters sprinkled about but the dumbing down of Norway (or Arendelle or whatever it is now) is just plain pathetic.

I don't agree.

It's $100ish a day to get into EPCOT where there are all of two headlining rides. Future World needs a lot of updating and the World Showcase is nearly all shopping and dining, which you need to pay to do beyond your ticket. With the advent of the Internet, being able to buy unique items from different countries really isn't novel anymore. I can order items directly from any country in the World Showcase. It's not really a novelty now. They're probably less expensive, too.

I like the World Showcase. I don't want it to sound like I don't. I just don't think adding more "family" themed attractions are a bastardization of it. They (Disney) need to do something to continue to entice people into the park. The Magic Kingdom draws on its own and with Avatar coming to AK and Star Wars to HS, EPCOT really NEEDS something. It's a huge park. Disney needs it to take some of their daily touring population.
