Thinking of going to Disney with friends. They will be staying at a Deluxe while we likely go for a moderate. Will the kids be able to swim together at the same resort?

Since both "parties" are staying at a WDW Resort,I think it is a little different than if one party was onsite and one offsite.
You could probably "sneak" and do it,but I would just explain the situation to the Lifeguards and ask their permission-I have always been told they have the final say at "their" Pool.
Stormalong bay is the only one I know of that checks room keys (MBs). That's the pool for yacht club and beach club.
Technically, only people staying at each resort are supposed to use that pool (except for dvc hopping), but if the pool isn't crowded and you're all on property, I don't think this is a big deal. I believe if Walt were alive, he'd want the kids to be able to swim together....
The issue is one of fairness. If someone is paying hundreds of dollars more a night for YC why should someone staying at POP be able to swim at storm a long? You do realize the higher cost of the deluxes is for the amenities, not just location, right? In your example let all the kids swim at POP after asking.Stormalong bay is the only one I know of that checks room keys (MBs). That's the pool for yacht club and beach club.
