Thinking of going to Disney with friends. They will be staying at a Deluxe while we likely go for a moderate. Will the kids be able to swim together at the same resort?

Technically no. Especially at the Deluxes, they check to be sure you are staying there before you can enter the pool area. I guess there are ways around this, but those are the rules.

Since both "parties" are staying at a WDW Resort,I think it is a little different than if one party was onsite and one offsite.

You could probably "sneak" and do it,but I would just explain the situation to the Lifeguards and ask their permission-I have always been told they have the final say at "their" Pool.:)

You will have far more success trying this at the mod you're staying at rather than the deluxe where they're staying.

They checked to make sure we were staying at the YC when we went to Stormalong Bay. My kids had to have their room card (this was before magic bands) to gain access.

You will be allowed to if you get special permission. I asked this (to Disney themselves) and were told that while technically no, you have to be a resort guest, that if you are staying at another Disney resort, they are often much more lenient (if you're not staying at a Disney resort, forget it). So I would just ask the front desk where you're staying.

While staying at Yacht Club last last summer, they scanned our MBs entering the pool area and gave us a wristband that you had to wear while in the pool area. If they saw people without those bands they were asked to leave. Now Stormalong Bay is a very popular pool so they may be extra strict, but I'm pretty sure I saw the same thing at the Boardwalk while passing through on our way to HS.

I would double check before showing up with the kids all ready to go swimming only to be told that they couldn't... you don't want to groups of upset kids on your hands

Depends on crowd levels. We live near and visit friends staying at Disney Resorts often. The Value and Moderates are never a problem. At deluxe resorts it depends on how many guests are there. Seldom have we been turned away.

YC is strict in the deluxe and AOA is strict in the value as for the rest of the mods no one checks. Deluxe they can and will depending on crowd level at pool.

I know this may cost money, but how about a day at one of the water parks instead. This way you know there is no problem, you won't have to worry about being denied, and a CM will not be put into a situation of "bending" the rules. I'm not trying to sound self righteous, but just giving a legitimate option. :confused3

The mod pools are pretty nice and I bet that you would have more success at one of them. The waterpark idea might work too.

AS others have already pointed out, you cannot use a pool at a different resort, but you can ask once you are there. The only pool you may be turned down at is Storm along Bay. WE had friends visit us at AKL and the life guards let their little girl swim with ours, but we asked.

Stormalong bay is the only one I know of that checks room keys (MBs). That's the pool for yacht club and beach club.
Technically, only people staying at each resort are supposed to use that pool (except for dvc hopping), but if the pool isn't crowded and you're all on property, I don't think this is a big deal. I believe if Walt were alive, he'd want the kids to be able to swim together....

So true!

The issue is one of fairness. If someone is paying hundreds of dollars more a night for YC why should someone staying at POP be able to swim at storm a long? You do realize the higher cost of the deluxes is for the amenities, not just location, right? In your example let all the kids swim at POP after asking.

No, in my example, if you are at POP and your friends are at saratoga and the pool is not crowded ....
At no point in my post did I suggest that anyone try to swim at stormalong bay - in fact I said they screen there because people try to just show up and swim. I also never suggested that everyone at the moderates or values try to swim at the deluxes. I stay deluxe myself and I pay extra for the amenities.... But my point was that IF the pool is not crowded and my friends are staying on property, then as a deluxe guest myself, I don't think it's a big deal if my daughter gets to splash around in the pool with her friend.
And what if I'm staying by myself at saratoga and you're there with four people? We're both paying the same money, you can have four people at the pool but I have to swim alone? Just addressing your point of money and fairness....
