I would love some opinions. These are the things that are important to us. We are considering moderate or deluxe. Let's see what fits the bill:

  • Three kids - ages 7, 4, 1 (he'll be in a crib)
  • A good selection of dining options that are somewhat easily accessible - either by walking (preferrably), or a single leg of boat/bus/monorail
  • We will be spending a lot of time at the pool/resort, given the ages of our kids
  • We will be spending more time at MK than other parks, but will be going to all 4. Taking a bus to MK is fine by us.
  • Stayed at WL previously and loved it. Want to try somewhere different.
I know, we'd probably be happy at any resort. Just pretend you are me and what would you pick? Thanks so much!!

I love this game!

Our favorite are the Epcot area resorts but I say you can wait until your kids are a little older to enjoy BC. Since you already stayed at WL then -

Easy access to the MK, Lots of good dining choices right at your resort or an easy monorail ride away, fun activities right at the resort, ability to watch fireworks if one of you and the 7 year old would like right from your resort - It has to be the Polynesian!

Poly! New kids splash pad looks really fun! Watch Wishes & electric water parade from beach! Great dining options & on monorail for GF & CR dining.
Imo best transportation with monorail or boat to MK & short path to TTC for Epcot.
Also rooms are large!

I have stayed at Poly and loved it but my favorite and most convinent for my liking is BC/YC. The pool itself is enough reason to stay there with kids. Throw in the fact that there's a ton of dining options, easy access (walking) to EPCOT and only a boat ride to DHS makes this place perfect for us.

OP: It's hard to really answer your question without knowing what your budget is. If cost does not matter, I would say any of the monorail resorts would be fine. I personally would avoid the Poly if construction is going on. If the construction is finished that would probably be my 1st choice. I would avoid the BC/YC due to the young ages of your kids. At their age, Epcot will probably be the least enjoyable park for them and SAB is such a large pool area, it will be difficult to keep an eye on all of them easily.

Thanks, everyone! I was trying to keep the money out of it, and play the "money is no object" game. I was wondering if any moderate would come up as a recommendation for any reason. There seems to be a favorite in this scenario!

OK, you will be happiest in a resort that will easily fit 5 people and you aren't interested in a value, which knocks out the suites at Art of Animation. Still gives you great choices.
Any of the monorail resorts would be great due to proximity to the Magic Kingdom, either by monorail, boat or walking (Contemporary only). There are many great dining options on the monorail line, not to mention those available to you by a short boat trip To Wilderness Lodge or Fort Wilderness Campground. The Pool at the Polynesian is brand new and has just reopened, with the kids area slated to open shortly. There is also a nice themed pool at the Grand Floridian, with a new kids water area themed to Alice in Wonderland. Of these 3, my choice would be the Polynesian.
Epcot Resort Area: There are 3 choices right outside the back International Gateway entrance to Epcot. The Yacht and Beach CLub has the most elaborate pool on property, Stormalong Bay. It is restricted to only guests of those properties, and is like a mini waterpark. There are many, many selections for food at any of the restaurants in those 3 resorts, not to mention, the restaurants in the Swan and Dolphin and right inside Epcot. Epcot and Disney's Hollywood Studios are a boat ride away, or if you prefer to walk, Epcot is a pretty short walk, whereas the Studios is a bit farther, but doable. The buses will stop at all of these resorts, so, sometimes the waits can be a bit long, and the buses only run to Magic Kingdom, Animal Kingdom, Downtown Disney, and the Waterparks, unless there is inclimate weather. Of the 3, I would choose the Beach Club, followed by the Boardwalk. The Yacht Club is much more adult oriented and often has many convention guests.
The 4 moderate resorts: I have stayed at all of the resorts, and to me, with little children, the easiest to navigate was, by far, Port Orleans French Quarter. It is a smaller land area and very centralized. The pool is great for little ones, and best of all, there is only one bus stop and it is right outside. You can request to be close to the foodcourt and bus stop, which will make your life much easier. We stayed here when my nieces were 3 and it worked out really well. There isn't a full service restaurant within that building, but Boatwrights is a short boat ride away at Port Orleans Riverside, and you have a choice of the 2 foodcourts, which have different menus. Now, if you are looking for "themed rooms", the 2 moderate resorts that offer those are Port Orleans Riverside (Royal Princess Rooms)- Port Orleans does have rooms that will sleep 5 in the Alligator Bayou section and The Caribbean Beach Resort (Pirate Themed Rooms)- these rooms are slightly larger in square footage than the other moderate resorts. Both of these resorts are somewhat spread out and have multiple bus stops. Of the 2, I would have to choose Port Orleans Riverside for its relaxing atmosphere and the rooms that can sleep 5. It is also part of the Port Orleans French Quarter area, so you have your choice of pools and food courts as well as a boat that will take you between them as well as to Downtown Disney, which has a great selection of places to eat. Lastly is Coronado Springs Resort. Of the 4, this is my least favorite. Like the Yacht Club, it caters more to convention guests and large groups. It is a very pretty resort and has a nice pool and play areas. It also has multiple bus stops. There is a full service restaurant that is open for dinner only, and a food court, Pepper Market.

With these things in mind, if you are going to choose a deluxe, I would probably choose The Polynesian, just for being on the monorail and near the Magic Kingdom... plus the whole pool area is brand new. As for choosing a moderate, I would go with one of the 2 Port Orleans resorts. At this point, it really comes down to your budget. Good luck, and hope you have a wonderful time!:beach:

Motherofcats8, thank you SO much for your in depth response. So nice of you to take the time to do that! This will be what I show my husband to help us make a decision.

Any of the monorail resorts would be fantastic for you depending on what theme you like, but I personally would choose the Poly!

-monorail to MK and Epcot
-easy access to Epcot direct monorail (no transfer) with about 5 min walk to the TTC
-Ohana dinner
-Ohana character bfast (mickey, Pluto, Lilo, stitch)
-Kona breakfast (tonga toast!)
-monorail to other restaurants is so easy
-boat direct to MK on way there
-dole whips
-fireworks from the beach
-new pool (if quiet pool construction is there during your stay, just request a room that isn't near construction and you might not even notice)
-tropical atmosphere is so laid back
-bigger rooms
-feel like your in the middle of the Magic because you can hear and see MK from the resort (like all monorail hotels probably)

The Contemp is what I'd pick. We did that for 2 or 3 nights several years ago when my 3 kids were little. DH had a work seminar there and we got to stay there. We LOVED it! You can walk to the MK or monorial there or to Epcot or to other resorts for dining. Can also take a boat. I like the QS place there and Chef Mickey's is a nice place to take the kids. My kids really enjoyed the pool too.

Grand Floridian. Their kids splash area is awesome! They also have 24 hour quick service dining and you can walk to the Polynesian. Its a very short monorail to MK and a boat back to the resort at the end of the day. For moderates, look into Coronado. There are 2 slides at the pools for starters.

For a mod our fav is POR, followed by pofq. They have a little more to offer in the mod category with a boat to dtd, horse & carriage rides, and at POR Riverside a great food court, and Yeehaw Bobs evening show.

Check out BC/YC Club Level. We loved the pool there for 10 yr old and 4 yr old. It is very relaxing and convenient to walk to Epcot for all those dining options. For moderate, we are trying POR this time around. They have the murphy beds available. Boat to downtown Disney, plus the atmosphere is supposed to be lots of fun. I'd also avoid Poly if there is still construction going on while you are there.

If construction doesnt bother you, Poly as its easily accessible to both monorail lines (Epcot and MK) and the themeing is great. However, we've stayed at Contemporary last 3 times and the ability to walk to/from MK was bonus and the monorail running through pretty cool.

I think you get more bang for your buck with the moderates and we LOVE ALL 3 equally. We just got back from our first trip to Fort Wilderness as now we have an RV and pets. Another option to think of bc FW is close, has cabins to rent, and there is a boat to take you right over to MK. It was an awesome place. We did go over to Poly to eat one night and it is really nice there but I've seen it going for A LOT more than the mods.
