Don't mean to torture you all BUT I log in my EBATES account first then ask for orbitz discounts, it directs me to orbitz and I earn cash too! For my gf booking was $14.34. Not a lot but still free money! A check gets mailed once a quarter to you from your purchases.

For tips on room discount and cash back deals - 'torture' away LOL!!! The Orbitz 15% would save me almost an extra $150 a night!

Thanks!!

T
Well I have been mostly booking CL rooms so I just email my requests to the IPO. My 2 deluxe kings once I got an octogaon room and once I didnt. For WL, poly and cr I got my requests. Even at CSR and CBR I got the request I did with online check in.

I have booked all kinds of discounts and I usually get my request. In general for us the longer the trip the more likely you get your request. My one day-ers have been hit and miss. However we got the "deluxe room" in SL by request for only one night which was awesome.
Thanks for sharing all of this... I probably need to check this out! Sounds like you've got a pretty good room request record since it's never guaranteed anyway!

Good evening fellow GF fans! !
So much to catch up on..but not a whole lot of time this evening...Have a fun story to share. .but it will have to wait till tomorrow!
Welcome home grannyminnie! No surprise that you ended up at the GF!!

Trish Thanks for that great Orbitz tutorial..

Hope that everyone had a wonderful weekend!! :earsgirl: busy GF gal...

Hi Blue..hope things are going well :flower3:.

Hello Everyone,
I'm so excited we are staying for the first time at GF from 11/20 to 11/23.:cool1:
I hope we can catch the Christmas decorations.

Congrats on booking the GF, you're going to love it :goodvibes.

When do the christmas decorations go up. We are they until Nov 10th and i know MK will have there's up & we will be doing MVMCP. Does GF also have a start to the decorations around 7-10th Nov???? Apart from the Gingerhouse. Im looking for just decorations around the lobby & hopefully the tree itself.

Teena who works at BC and is a regular on the BC/YC thread said that the resorts draw (from a hat?) to see who's decorations go up first. I honestly don't know if this includes the GF or not since it is the "flagship" and the gingerbread house is such a major attraction. I hope they have started them for your sake (and everyone else's). Maybe someone who is routinely there in early November can tell you what they've experienced. We always used to go in early December when the kids were young (decorations were up then), but now it is too difficult to pull them out of school unless it's just to add a day to another break:( I don't know when they'll ever get to go to MVMCP again. Enjoy every minute of it!

Trish, how thoughtful of you to include so many details on how to get the best deal!! No torture at all, when saving money is the end result!! Now to get my sister to want to plan another trip there~ We didn't book a bounceback because we are planning on a Sept. visit to DL! :yay: (but strangely...or not, as you all will understand) I will still miss going to the Grand again this year.

Dispro1, many of us are absolutely enchanted by that lovely smell that greats you as you step into the lobby! :cloud9: I was so excited to find a soap to bring home as a reminder of it!

By the way, we had a really fun visit with Richard, the doorman/greeter. He is so sweet, and we were happy to see that this visit he remembered us. (we're not "regulars" like some of you lucky people on here!)

This sounds almost too good to be true! Obviously, it's true because you've done it, but my question is, do the room assignors give preferential treatment as far as room requests when you are a repeat customer who books through Disney, or can they not see who you booked through? I don't know for certain, but when we requested a specific king turret room, we got what we wanted, and another DISer that was there at the same time said that someone that stayed at GF more often than she must have beat her out on the request (which turned out to be me). I guess what I'm saying here is, I LOVE to save money, but I would be willing to pay a little bit more booking with my AP discount if that actually gives me an advantage with room requests. Obviously, if there is no preferential treatment given, I'd rather save more money! People on the BC/YC thread have mentioned getting as high as 42-43% off booking through the "unnamed magical travel agency" but I was fearful of booking through that for the same reason. Does anyone know exactly what the room assignors can see (who you booked through, dates of your last visit to the resort, etc)? I don't think it would make any difference if you just wanted LV, GV or TPV, but when there are only a few rooms in a category like Deluxe Queen Main Building (and I want a specific floor) or Main Building King Turret Room (and I want one of three room numbers due to MK view), I wonder if it makes a difference?

Through the years I have had the chance to speak to a couple room assigners. They have no way to tell how you booked your room. Once the room assigners get your reservation they are owned by the resort, not the travel agency or third party. Up until the room assigners get the reservation, the travel agent or 3rd party vendor owns it which is why you can't make any changes yourself.

And all 3 told me that even if they could see how you made the reservation it would make zero difference to them. They are only concerned with trying to grant the most guests requests as they can. They keep a running total to see how many they can grant in a given month and celebrate any new records.

We go multiple times a year and look forward to each visit.

Lucky you! Glad you enjoyed your last stay :goodvibes

They said they would check it out and I saw security in the building for the next couple of days. Still smelled smoke from a balcony nearby. Also, they said that housekeeping frequently has to clean rooms where guests have smoked. I wish they would fine smokers a hefty charge instead of the $250 cleaning fee.
I agree! ::yes::

For tips on room discount and cash back deals - 'torture' away LOL!!! The Orbitz 15% would save me almost an extra $150 a night!
Thanks!!
The savings is how I have been going CL so many trips! I figure I would have to spend that anyways with Disney, might as well get free food.
Thanks for sharing all of this... I probably need to check this out! Sounds like you've got a pretty good room request record since it's never guaranteed anyway!
It is free to look, lol!

The gingerbread house should be up by then, the parks decorations will be up but the resorts go up near then so a maybe.:santa:
Not nice to tease!! Lol

Morning Mickeynut!!!:wave2:

The parks decorations go up shortly after Halloween. MK is easy to figure out by checking the first MVMCP date. The decorations need to be up by that. Unfortunately your dates are a little early for the resort decorations to be up based on past years. Many of the shops will have holiday merchandise to see which does help add to the mood.

DD wants me to take her to DL for her 21st in March. PM some info when you have time. Thinking Disneyland resort??? princess:

So sweet Richard remembered you.::yes::

Well, it's tomorrow :listen:

Hello. I will be traveling to GF next week and staying in Sugarloaf. I have a few questions, if someone would be so kind as to answer! First, I was told by concierge that they do have FULL size cribs (not pack n plays) available. I have requested one. Are the cribs really full size or will I show up to find a pack n play? If not full size, I will rent a full size from kingdom strollers. Second, we are a large party traveling with small kids. If we request first floor room at SL do you think the adults would be able to hang out in the lounge and use our video monitors to keep an eye on the sleeping kids (kids will go down EARLY like 7:00)? This would allow us to socialize with our family instead of being stuck in the room with the TV on with no volume! Thanks in advance!

I know many years ago at cbr we used a monitor and sat outside the room on chairs so dd would fall asleep. If you are discreet about it I think you should be fine.

You could also sit on the balcony/patio too. You can take food and drinks back to the room/patio. They have trays in the lounge, just ask them where they are.

I have seen others get a full size crib so hopefully it works out ok for you.

Hello fellow GF fans...this is going to be a mega multi almost big enough to rival MickeyNut's mulit quoted post...Hope that I don't confuse my self...lol....:upsidedow

Just booked 1 yr anniversary trip w/ hubby for GF for 12/9-12/13. We usually stay at WL, but received a pin code that we couldn't get to work for WL on our days. This will be my first stay at GF....and my first seeing the parks at Christmas!! Very excited :) Hubby has stayed there before with his family and loved it. We have eaten at Citricos several times, but may try Narcoossee's this go around. We've decided to reserve V&A for our 10 yr anniversary ;)

Congrats on booking the GF and the pin code!! :goodvibes I amsure it will be an anniversary trip to remember! :lovestruc

Discounts: I have gotten it on SL and RPC with passholder and orbitz too.:goodvibes
Don't be worried about orbitz. I got Disney's 30% then an additional15% on our Sl stay this August:cool1:.

It was only $66 a day to upgrade from GV to SL!!!:wizard:

In the past it seems that some RPC shows up the closer I get to the trip. ::yes::
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
On a different note I was sitting at my desk yesterday and then I thought:scratchin just because my kids are both going to a SUNY school maybe the calendar is different??? So I checked, and yep DS goes to school a week earlier than DD. Right now dd and I would be at gf 8/16-20 and he starts 21st for orientation.:scared1:

I can't be gone before my guy leaves:faint::eek::sad:.

So he says "no go" to the blt his last weekend home and wants me home so dd and I will probably move it to 8/23-27. That is better because he will be gone and I will be sad anyways. She is a jr and wont need much time to move in on the 29/30th.

Of course if he gets in his 2nd choice he is on standby for then it goes back to original plans.

So, sorry I have been MIA! New baby cousin this week, kitchen cabinets and appliances installed and orbitz changing!

Happy May:flower1::sunny::daisy:GF friends

Oh no!! You cannot be gone when your baby boy goes off to school....Glad you were able to reschedule everything..:thumbsup2 Congrats on the new baby cousin....He is absolutely adorable!!! :goodvibes

Just about to book a trip for our family's first stay at a deluxe and I'm so excited! I have a few questions in regards to outer building lagoon view, would we be able to see the electric water parade from the room? Is it a far walk from the outer building to the main building? Thanks so much for any advice, I can't believe this is really happening!!!

How nice a first GF trip!! I am sure that it won't be your last!! :cloud9: As others have said...everything on the gruonds is in very close proximity...there is a map at the beginning of this thread that will give you a good idea of where everything is located...You can see the EWP from some of the LV rooms....I would recommend requesting Boca Chica....lovely views and nice and close to the pool and boat dock...and not a far walk from anything else!

Hi everyone,

What dates are the Christmas decorations normally up at the GF?

Thank you! :santa:

I do believe that the Christmas decorations start to go up in the resorts about the second week of November.... Last year the gingerbread house at the GF was up and open for business by about the 18th...HTH...:)

Hi everyone!! My DH and I decided to take a last minute trip to the beach so we're both trying to 'disconnect' but I still try to catch up with my Disboards in the morning - LOL!!

Trishadono - how do you get the Disney 30% and Orbitz 15%?? Or maybe I misunderstood that was just for passholders?

Anyway, happy Saturday everyone and I'm going to enjoy some sunshine! We're having a great time but it still makes me wish November would hurry up and get here for our GF trip!!

Hope that you had fun beach trip! Isn't DISing relaxing...and kind of like disconnecting...lol...?? Disney logic! :tilt: ;)

Hi everyone! 105 days to go for me!
So it seems the best option to get from GF to Poly is the boat, correct? How long is the walking path?
I was checking out the transportation wizard, and I can't believe how long it takes to get to Epcot. I guess if there was a con to staying at a deluxe monorail resort, that would be one! The wizard said about 42 minutes, yikes! Getting to HS and AK is quicker on bus.

Thanks for all the help!! This thread is so informative.

I have really never felt that the trip from the GF to Epcot took very long....the monorails are usually pretty quick..usually...lol...and simple to transfer from the resort loop to the Epcot one....The walk over to the Poly is also a relatively short one....a very lovely path to stroll along too...:thumbsup2 105 days....:dance3: Bet the time will fly!

I have some Chamilia ones too, but I am curious to see what new Pandora ones they have added since February. When I bought one on Main Street in Feb. I was told that they were about to have a whole Disney Pandora store there (on Main Street). Has anyone been in it yet?

I have a few friends...other friends ;)...lol...who have been recently..and said that the store on Main Street has been completely transformed..lots of Pandora jewelry cases....I guess there must be a lot of us fans...now is the powers that be would just listen to us...and get those resort specific charms made....:thumbsup2

I'm thinking of treating myself to a facial during my upcoming trip, can I ask if anyone has had a facial at the spa and what they thought of the actual treatment/products? My skin is going through that time in life when it's quite sensitive, I'm currently using creme de la mer products and I'm wondering how the products compare?

There is info and a link on page one...I do believe that it was JoBird did a review of her spa experiences...::yes::

I am curious as well, wonder what they are like and if they can tell you about your skin type ,kinda like a dermatologist

Not sure...but I would recommend checking out that review that I posted about above....:thumbsup2

Hi everyone

Was wondering if someone could help me. Haven't been to the GF.

Considering booking in the outer building since it's cheaper. Are the outer buildings really far away from things? I dint mind a little bit of a walk, just nothing crazy.

Originally was going to go to WL but I don't like the scaffolding that is up.

Any info would be appreciated. Thanks.

The map on page one of this thread will give you a good perspective of the "lay of the land" so to speak..lol.....and as I and others have said..everything is in pretty close proximity....and the grounds are so very pretty that being in an outer building is a nice way to enjoy them...:goodvibes

hi, Blue!!! always so nice to "see" you.

trisha, well, that works out even better since my dates are 8/19-26! lol!

Hey Beth  Thanks!

I can not believe you did that:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Glad you and sis had some nice time together.

Not sure about last night... Ds had a bunch of track kids over last night and they went to see Avengers at midnight. I woke up and felt that mom feeling so I checked , Yep ds left the hose/water running when they left. They had 10 kids in the hot tub that seats 7 and most of the water spilled out so I told him to refill it before leaving:sad2: So I read up a little and posted and I swear I didn't see your post. My brain does not work as well in the middle of the night :rolleyes1

Kids!!! You def need a vacation!!! lol....:littleangel: Disney logic!

Back from our GF stay. The rooms are much nicer than when we stayed in 1989 and they have added a lot. We had a Theme Park view, dormer room in Boca. Very nice view....only one problem, smokers on the balconies. Not only cigarettes but cigar smoke. We thought by staying in a high end resort that we would not encounter this like we did at Caribbean Beach. Not only did we complain at the desk but the woman that had young children in the room next to ours did as well. We could not watch wishes because of the smoke. I ended up with a health issue and the hotel called the medics. My pulse-ox was 95...that is low. Thankfully I had a rescue inhaler.

PLEASE..if you smoke do so at the DSA and not ruin someones vacation by being selfish.

Glad that you enjoyed the renovated rooms....Sorry about the smokers though....:faint: .and that is quite a reaction that you had...Good thing that you had your inhaler....

I know I am new here but just wanted to add to the theme of this thread. We had stayed at multiple deluxe resorts and thought that they were all incredible experiences.

Then we stayed at the Grand in SL CL. Holy cow that was incredible. From the moment we were greeted and walked over to our room, the food all day in the lounge, to the wonderfully redecorated rooms…everything was exceptional. We loved it so much that we bought into DVC at the GFV and we love them to. It was one of the best decisions we made from a family standpoint.

We go multiple times a year and look forward to each visit.

Thanks for popping in and adding your thoughts! :goodvibes All opinions new and old are welcome! :thumbsup2 and congrats on buying VGF!

Has anyone else ever had to make a new countdown banner because it stopped counting down? I just noticed mine had said one month and four days for several days so I had to make a new one??

Not that I can recall....but your new ticker is super nice!! :thumbsup2:boat:

Hello Everyone,
I'm so excited we are staying for the first time at GF from 11/20 to 11/23.:cool1:
I hope we can catch the Christmas decorations.

Woohoo....A great way to kick off the holiday season!! :dance3: you definitely will be able to see the decorations! :santa:

Not nice to tease!! Lol

Sue Forgive me...lol....yesterday was one of those crazy days...but I am finally getting to my story....promise....!

I think that's when they start to go up in the resorts....I am pretty sure that the gingerbread house opened last year at around the 18th...so you might be able to see the construction of it going on....:)

There are a few rooms that are located right there in the lobby area....the ones with the courtyard view are 6112 and 6114...you can literally sit in the lounge and see the doors to these rooms..so that might be a good request :thumbsup2...there are also two on the marina side..I am thinking 6113 and 6115..but not positive on those 2....

MickeyNut All is well..thanks for asking....:goodvibes In full trip planning mode ....is it summer yet???????????? lol....

Wow. That's great info...thanks. I have to admit that I am very surprised that Disney allows another company to discount rooms more than they do! I guess it's best to go with the cheapest price then...if the room category I want is available with an extra discount. I guess I wanted to believe that Disney rewarded loyalty with room assignments at least. Renewing our AP may not be worth it if you can get a better discount elsewhere...plus Tables in Wonderland is losing value with increased blackout dates and more restaurants excluded- ugh- so frustrating!

Thanks for your sweet comments! It really was a "small world" to find out that I had been talking to Blueskies not having any idea that we already knew each other:) and I am very happy to be making new DIS friends who do understand the excitement of planning that next Disney trip (especially to GF)! It really is a nice escape from reality, as you said Blue.
