What is rope drop like at MK?

It's been 3 years since our last trip (no Seven Dwarves Mine, no A&E). We'll be going 1st 2 weeks in Sept.

After the welcome show, rope drop was in front of the tunnels that go under the train station. Is it still the same?

1. Can you branch off at the castle hub - to Adventureland, Frontierland, Tomorrowland, or that path around the right of the Castle (instead of through it) or is it one way traffic only?

2. We have 8:05am breakfast at CP one day. Where will we be held up after breakfast, before 9am?

On our last trip the week after Easter there were AM EMH every day. You could break off toward Tomorrowland, but they kept leading people with the ropes on the path to the right past the teacups and all the way to the mine train entrance. Because Adventureland and Frontierland aren't open during EMH you couldn't go that way, but I assume that you could break off that way on days with a regular opening.

I don't know where they will hold you after breakfast at CP; we have never done that.

#1. No. There are actually CM's from the HM and elsewhere in Frontierland that make a wall so you can't go through.
#2. Is that an EMH morning? If not, I'd imagine they'd hold you and let you in the masses after they get to the hub (I'm sure someone will be able to answer this.)

No, not an EMH morning.

But what if you don't want to go there (the mine) first thing? We wanted to go to Big Thunder & Splash first. I have to walk all that extra distance?

You simply turn left at the hub and walk into Adventureland or Liberty Square.

We did 3 RDs at MK in March, one of which was an EMH and not once were we walked down Main Street behind a rope. We were free to go where we pleased. We headed to Adventureland one morning, then Fantasyland and Tomorrowland on the other two.

It's kind of like this:

It is one of the most magical and emotional experiences in WDW. In regards to the flood of emotions that come from rope drop at MK it ranks 3rd overall. First of course being my wedding day, second graduation from basic training and then rope drop. It brings back the child within.

I did RD at MK on 4/22 and it was great. The crowd was polite and we walked up Main Street and took a left into Adventureland to BTMRR with no problem. I don't remember seeing any CMs with a rope in front of us. The opening show always makes me misty eyed

I cry at rope drop - i get so emotional ( and i cry at disney world commercials)

Right there with you!

Then again, I also teared up when the team took the field at my first Minnesota Vikings home game, and when Iron Maiden took that stage a few years ago.

I'm emotional like that, too :)

The fact that the crowd WALKED is proof that there were CMs with a rope in front of you, IMO ;)

Rope drop last year was a far cry from the "Rapunzel Sprint" my wife took part on a prior trip!

So....a quickie question (sorry OP)...If I want to go to the Merida M&G at rope drop....I'm basically going to be "herded" with the mine train folks until I break away at her spot correct?
