Dinosaur and the Great Movie rides?

Planning ahead for our next WDW trip and trying to find rides i haven't been on that i CAN go on. i have an inflammatory condition, back issues, and arthritis. Have found there are many rides i just can't do anymore, such as Indiana Jones. Went on it years ago and i was fine. This last time, i was clinging on for dear life as the car jerked and zoomed. It was very painful and not fun at all for me.

So, looking at the Dinosaur ride in AK. The disney site says slow and dark with small drops. If you've gone on it, can you compare the car movement to anything else? Like, is it similar in movement to the Pirates of the Caribbean ride? i can do that ride. Any insight would be appreciated.

Also, have never been on the Great Movie Ride. Is that one slow or easy in vehicle movement? It looks like a fun ride. i just don't want to get partway through and regret it.

Thanks so much for any insight anyone might provide.

Dinosaur is the same kind of ride track as Indiana Jones. You should avoid that. GMR will be fine. You just ride a tram vehicle.

Dinosaur is very jerky, back and forth, up and down. Avoid with your conditions. Great Movie Ride is a slow-moving tram. Smooth and relaxing. Very easy for you. Good luck.

Hang on - what's this Indiana Jones ride you're talking about? I thought the only Indiana Jones thing at any of the parks was the stunt row, where you just sit and watch a stunt show and isn't a ride at all.

Dinosaur is very jerky: I'm the only one in my family who likes it!

You'll have no probles with the Great Movie Ride at all. Similarly, if you can manage the Pirates ride, you'll also be fine with It's a Small World at MK and Living with the Land and The Three Cabaleros in the Mexican pavilion at Epcot. Haunted Mansion turns you round and tips you over onto your back at one point, but it's never jerky or rough, so you may well be okay with that one, as well. Also, if you can get into the Jungle Cruise boats, that's nice and smooth, too.

wow!
I think someone at the Disney website was asleep when they wrote that description. I will agree it is dark and scary and does have small drops, but that doesn't really describe it. Your Time Rover is going along in prehistoric times, fairly slowly doing sightseeing. Then the person controlling it thinks he sees the dinosaur he is looking for, so you come to a sudden stop to look. It's not the one you are looking for, so you speed up.
Sometimes it's very jerky stops or starts. That's where the 'small drops' mostly come in. They are not that far, but are usually sudden small drops with little or no warning. I would not really call it turbulent, but it is jerky..
I would suggest anyone concerned about jerky rides not ride it.

Great Movie Ride is a very slow ride on a totally flat track. It makes some stops for various little show elements. The stops are made slowly and there is nothing jerky about the attraction.

Really appreciate the input. It's no fun waiting in long lines, only to go on a ride and have a miserable time. My husband dragged me on Who Shot Roger Rabbit in Toontown at Disneyland last year. First of all, it's made for little kids so squishing my big body in the car with my husband's big body was not easy. Then it's very whippy and jerky. i was miserable. Worse was when it ended and the CM was telling me to exit the car. i told her i was trying!

Toffeewoffy - i guess the Indiana Jones ride is just at Disneyland. And i appreciate your input on the other rides. However, about the Jungle Cruise, i won't be going on that again. i was fine getting on, and the ride was fine. Getting off at the rear of the boat, though, the step up was so high i was struggling. The CM was pulling and i was pulling. After he got me off the ride, i told him that step up was very high. He said next time ask as they have portable stairs that they use for folks who can't take that big step up to get out of the boat. Hey, thanks, but a little too late.

The CM at Dinosaur told us that it was comparable in roughness to Star Tours, so we skipped it. The Great Movie Ride was slow, smooth, and relaxing. We were there at a particularly non-crowded time, so we even got to stretch our legs out across the bench seats!

@SueM in MN out of curiosity do you take your daughter on dinosaur? Iirc our children are similar in terms oh physical disability, and I'm trying to decide if it's too rough for my dd. she can do splash and btmrr if I lift her in, if that helps. It's just hard to tell because I've never been on the ride!!

the track and vehicles on Dinosaur are identical to the IJ ride in DL only the set dressing is different. when we were there last Fall( September) they were closing TGMR at end of our trip. I thought it was permanent, or was it just for refurb? I was under the impression that whole section was being re-imagined altogether to make room for Star Wars stuff

I would agree with that - for people who have been on Star Tours, Dinosaur is pretty similar.

If your daughter does OK on btmrr, she would probably do fine on Dinosaur.

Our dd has been on Splash and Dinosaur. She hasn't been on Splash in a long time because it's too hard to get her in, not because of the ride. She's a mixed spastic quad with dystonia. When she's excited, she goes into extension and has a lot of athetoid movements. That makes it really hard to lift her over the side of Splash log.
She would probably love btmrr, but I slide around quite a bit on there, so we don't think she would be safe. Especially , with it having only the shared lap bar.
She does fine on Dinosaur. It's easier to get into than Splash and is pretty turbulent, but the seat belt holds her well and we are able to brace her without problem.
Interestingly, our older dd says Dinosaur is too rough and she won't go on it any more.

If you are not certain, you could explain to the entrance CM and see if you could do a test ride without your daughter.

No one is quite sure what is going to happen with the Studio, but the rumored Star Wars part was never planned to go as far as Great Movie Ride. We were on it in January and actually they announced a partnership with the Turner Classic Movie group for a big update: http://www.orlandosentinel.com/business/os-disney-turner-classic-movies-20141126-story.html

Thanks sue! I think I'll give it a try this trip. As far as btmrr she cannot brace herself at all but she still is tiny (weighs about 40 lbs) do I can hold her. As she gets larger in sure as won't be able to do that one any longer.
