50's Diner vs Sci-Fi!

Heading to HS and right now, my biggest decision is should we eat at the 50's diner or Sci-Fi. I have to admit that I'm a creature of habit and Sci-Fi is my favorite (but admittedly I haven't been to another sit down place at HS) so I want to go because I love the place. The bf however mentioned an interest in the diner. If you had to choose one, which would it be and why?

I like the burgers and salad better at Sci-Fi. I wasn't as impressed with the pot roast and fried chicken at 50's Diner as others seem to be. But the milkshakes are great.

Overall, I like Sci-Fi better.

overall the food is better at 50's and the interaction with the wait staff at 50's is fun, as long as you keep your elbows off the table. DW and I didn't like the car seats at SC FI even though many people do, but we found the seats uncomfortable and tiny. Also didn't like the concept of having a party of more then 2 having to sit behind you. I've been to far to many drive in movies in my life and this is only reminiscence of that experience. But again many people like Sci fi

50's for sure!!! I love the fried chicken and DH loves the pot roast or the sampler. The interaction with the CM's is a hoot

I still have to experience 50s (just made my ADR :D ) but the main reason for me not to return to Sci Fi is that it was incredibly cold. The a/c was doing overtime. My food cooled down so quickly, it lost most of its taste. When I went to the bathrooms I wanted to stay there as it was warmer than in the restaurant.

I love 50's. We go every trip to Disney. Hubby is "forcing" me to go to Sci- Fi for our upcoming vacation. He said if we are going back to Disney, we can not go anywhere we have gone (many times) before. I had to reserve mostly new places. I am kind of looking forward to it though. I say switch it up a bit and make Disney a new experience!

We do them both every year because I can't choose either! I like the food and the interaction at 50s just a bit more, but sitting in the car like you're at a real drive-in never gets old. Still, it's like Sophie's choice. If you can manage to do them both, I totally would. (and always do :rotfl:)

We love Sci Fi - we also like the food better at Sci Fi but we love the desserts at Prime Time. We do Sci Fi for a late lunch and Prime time for night desserts and appetizers if we are hungry.

We like 50's Prime Time (love the s'mores dessert) but our favorite is Sci Fi. The atmosphere, burgers and shakes, and the cheesy sci fi clips are why we make a point to return each trip. The food at 50's is good, and the antics that the waitstaff does don't bother us, we actually think it's fun even though we only have gotten a couple "cousins" who were really were in character. However, we always seem to want to go back to Sci fi each trip :goodvibes. For our trip in October DH and I thought we would go somewhere else just to change it up, so I made an ADR for Mama Melrose (DH likes it there), but then after talking about Sci fi to friends of ours who are going to WDW in the Summer, I had to make an ADR for ourselves too, so now we are having an early lunch at Sci fi and a late dinner at Mama Melrose....it's a win win situation, especially since our DDs aren't even involved in the planning of this trip (it's a surprise to them) and I know that they will be very disappointed if we don't eat at Sci fi.

We went to the science fi for the first time last trip and it will become a regular spot for us. It was so unique and fun. And the food was better than I anticipated.

We are doing both on our Sept. 2015 trip. Sci-Fi for lunch and 50's for dinner. Can't go wrong. We have made it a tradition going to the Sci-Fi though. We really like the short movies/clips. We are taking my in-laws for their first trip since 1998. My FiL wanted the 50's and my MiL wanted Sci-Fi.

I like both but would recommend trying 50s Prime Time since you haven't been there yet. Depending on how the rest of your trip is planned out, you could always do both.

I know a lot of people seem underwhelmed by Sci-Fi, but it is one of my kids' favorites. We only do one park day at the Studios, so we are doing lunch at Sci-Fi and dinner at 50's Prime Time (like ArmyVet80 mentioned) even though it's unusual for us to book two TS meals for one day. If you order sandwiches, Sci-Fi isn't all that expensive for a Disney TS restaurant... Could you do both?

I've always enjoyed the movies & fun atmosphere at Si-Fi but find the food less than stellar. A heads up for those who love the picnic burger, I just read on another thread that it has been dropped from the menu. At least for the summer. This fall, I actually have a dinner ADR at Cape May Cafe seafood buffet and will take the boat from HS to the Beach Club and back. Hopefully, I've timed my visit for the first night of Osborne Family Lights so it will work out. I would make a lunch ADR for Sci-Fi and pay OOP for either an appy (the wings are tasty) or a sandwich (the reuben is a strong favourite). That's my plan this time around!

Another option if you wanted to experience the ambiance of Sci-Fi without committing to a whole meal is to go there for milkshakes after lunch (they are around $5 each), but then book 50's for dinner. Best of both worlds!!!

That's a great idea!

If I can get the reservation times that work, I'm going to do both. It will be my last day at the parks so go big or go home!!!

I just lucked out and got reservations to both! I'm going to lunch @ 12:20 for 50's Prime and Dinner @ 6:55 at Sci-Fi. I'm hoping to find earlier reservations for both otherwise I'm going to have to haul butt quickly to make it in time for Fantasmic!
