Beyond disappointed in the Admin dept at DVC, no member number

We live in a digital age. We get advertising from many Disney entities via e-mail. We can do business with many Disney companies online (Disney Store, WDW, DL, etc).

I was able to purchase my DVC via email (and a visit to the bank for a wire transfer). No paper or mailing was necessary.

I do not understand why Member Admin can't simply send an email with the membership number to the new member immediately once it's issued. Why do they have to send out a letter that takes two weeks. Guest satisfaction would be much higher if they would simply send out the email. :surfweb:

I disagree with this. Email is not. Secure. Banks do not send out account information by email neither do most online shops. Disney have to ensure the security of the information sent out and email is not the best way to do that.

There are ways of sending secure email.

There are ways to satisfy security concerns and provide faster account set up and member ID issuance but IMO Disney makes some direct buys because people do not want to wait for the resale delays. Guest satisfaction isn't a concern for DVC, if you don't like the service that you are receiving, sell to someone else.

There are ways of sending secure email.
The only way to send secure "email" is to have an arranged relationship and sign up that has been pretested. When companies send secure messages, they don't actually send you the info in an email, they send the email to a secure internal server then you have to sign in to read it, much like a webmail situation. They may send you an announcement email to let you know the message is there to retrieve. All of this requires they've verified you and that you've signed up previously. For DVC, this would require your member number and a password, much like the current website. There is no way they could send a secure email out of the blue. I don't see any way this could be prearranged as part of closing.
 
I called in 3 separate times to try to get the member number (going thru Account setup dept) and was told every time they do not give the number over the phone. I needed the number cause I have (just timing) another contract closing for same UY and want this as an add on. There is a place in the closing papers to put an existing member number. My packet has been mailed, and I am being told to wait for it, since I should be getting it any day.
Frankly, I am not upset, since they are consistent. If all CM follow the same policy, I think people would understand. A lot of confusion and sometimes misplaced anger ferments when some people can get something and others cannot.
