Anyone used Uber to get around?

Yes we use uber over local taxi service. The cab drivers are dishonest and rude. They change the rates according to distance then to wait time. They also take advantage of people who don't know their way around. Use über .

I've had great luck with Uber in Orlando. I know the city council just recently passed some new regulations in regards to Uber, trying to force them to charge as much as the cabs do. But even if Uber cost more, I'd still use them instead of the cabs for the reason the PP mentioned.

We've had good results elsewhere with Lyft, but have never used either them or Uber at WDW.

I'd be tempted to use either one over local cabs just about anywhere for the same reasons others mentioned above.

We used Uber a few times last trip with no problems. Cheaper and more reliable for sure.

I see that Uber isn't available for airport pickup, though. I can't seem to find out if Lyft will pick up at MCO. Anyone know?

I would be interested to know how accurate their fare estimates are and how often people have run into the "surge pricing" situation in the WDW area?

We use Uber quite a bit to get around. I was worried about Disney access for their drivers and it seems WDW doesn't love them, but tolerate them. Either way, it's easier and more convenient for my family. As to Jamie's question - I always feel their fare estimates are pretty close (both at WDW and elsewhere) and I did encounter some surge pricing at obvious times (park close for instance) - but usually if you wait just a few minutes it'll go away. Of note, sometimes surge pricing is created by the drivers - if a bunch turn off availabilty it drives demand. When they log back in during surge pricing they pick up a quick fare at at higher rate. The surge disappears quickly though. I'm a patient person so a few extra minutes to save some coin is worth it to me.

Never used uber, but wouldn't theybe able to pick up in the private vehicle areas? Presuming that you pre arranged a pick up and called once you were outside the terminal?

I haven't used Uber in Orlando personally (someone else paid for it), but I use it all the time here in New England.

Here are a few facts:

Uber is often cheaper than cabs.

It's local residents trying to make some extra cash driving people around. (So a Miami uber driver can't visit Orlando and make a few extra bucks while there - they have to apply for that region).

Uber can't typically pick you up inside the parks and definitely not at the cab/bus stands. Disney charges them for parking. (My friend missed a flight because he didn't realize this and wondered why it was taking a driver so long to pick him and his gf up from MK..he gave up and took a cab.)

However, they CAN drop you off inside the parking lots for the parks if you're staying at a Disney resort. This is because you get free parking by staying at a resort or have an AP. The uber driver will have to scan your magic band to gain access. (This should mean that uber drivers can occasionally pick up people inside the park, but I'm really not sure on that.)

Uber can definitely pick you up at your hotel or resort and take you to another resort or Downtown Disney (it's only when they charge for parking is it a fuzzy area).

Uber can pick you up from your hotel/DD and bring you to other Orlando attractions such as Sea World, Lego Land, and Universal Studios.

In certain vehicles, you can link your own music via spotify for your ride. You might drive your driver crazy with Let It Go on repeat, but your kids might enjoy it.

Some Uber drivers include water bottles in their cars (take the bottle into the park to stay hydrated!)

Uber can be hit or miss - I've had some drivers really concentrating on service and making sure you have a fantastic ride, and I've had a couple experiences with a sketchy, old, smelly car and odd personalities.

Uber has been used for airport pickup though I have not personally used it for Orlando. Another trick you can try is go to the departures drop off to request an Uber if they don't allow personal cars at arrivals.

If anyone will be trying Uber for the first time in Disney/Orlando (or anywhere), you can use the following code for your first ride free (up to $20): kristien9

Hi currently in Orlando. Signed up for uber before we came, tonight we entered an up to $15 dollar off code for a $14-$19 journey to animal kingdom. I received a tx from my bank saying uber was trying to take £4.79 from my account? We've not even took the journey yet, and when we do it should be free or £4 dollars worth? Anyone had this?

We used it a few times last week at WDW and have used it elsewhere as well...works great for us when we don't want to mess with parking at the front of Epcot and/or plan to park hop. The fare estimates have always been accurate for me. Good to ask about surge pricing, because for park opening times we did hit surge pricing...I assume it surges again for park closing as well. We were at Bonnet Creek and paid $6 and change for normal pricing to the Boardwalk, but surge was $8 and change.

We use Uber alot at Disney! Always super fast. I don't think we have ever waited more than 5 minutes for a pickup. Drivers are friendly and their cars are clean. We like to visit the resorts for dinner and none of the security guards at the front gates seem to mind.

We used both a cab and uber last Christmas. Hollywood Studios parking lot was closed and people were being routed to Epcot and then had to take a bus over. Uber was half the price of the cab- had no problems getting it!

Uber is great. We used it all week on our spring break trip. Agree with others- drivers are excellent, cars are clean and prices cant be beat!

Florida legislature does not like it. Right now they are trying to pass a bill that would require all drivers to have MILLON dollar insurance policy and security checks.

so do it now while it is reasonable priced.

there have been a few problems - but nothing to go that far (my opinion)

According to the Uber website, Uber is available at MCO, although there is a $10 surcharge for pickups from the airport.

I’ll add my two cents on ride-share services at WDW. We stayed offsite at Clarion Inn Lake Buena Vista the last week of March 2017. The hotel has a shuttle with limited times and we wanted to move more freely and quickly than the shuttle service accommodated. I used primarily Lyft and a few rides with Uber over a 10 day period. The riders were myself and DS, age 11. We rode early morning, midday and late after park closings. We felt safe and respected by all drivers. Some drivers were chatty and entertaining, others just drove competently and got to our destination. I loved how quickly we got dropped off close to park entrances. No rental car hassle or parking in a giant lot, taking shuttles, etc. We also took a few rides either to or from resort hotels, and again had smooth experiences. It was especially handy to get dropped off or picked up at CR when going to MK. We avoided the TTC all together!
