DDC XXXIV: The Original Home Of The DISDads!!!

Believe me this was not a snap decision. We discussed this for over three months and even though it is a long ways away, I agreed to it. She will be working with the Nature Conservancy in a self-contained compound. They are not allowed to travel other than in organized group activities. Plus the area she is in is pretty remote and safe.

She's also 21 and is using some of the money her mother left her to pay for part of it. In the end I really didn't have a choice. It is also a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to do Marine research in Indonesia. Along with her grades, it pretty much assures her a chance to go to just about any Grad school for Marine ecosystems in the country. She will be doing Graduate level stuff in one of the most pristine environments in the world.

Not that I like it but she has to live her life.

Wow scary. My oldest is 14 and I get nervous when she is spending the night at a friends house a couple blocks away. Cant imagine her being half way around he world. Sound like an awesome opportunity and congratulations.
If you decide to just take off and go with her just leave your credit card under the mat and I will house sit for you while you are away. I have a key.

We get points? When did that happen?

:crazy2:

According to my kids they are making up for all the stupid things we have done as parents so that by the time they are adults we are all square. Mine are still at the age where I don't know anything and all my decisions are wrong, so I need major points.

What's the story behind that???

Why, thanks for the welcome.

My standards are already pretty low, I don't know if they can get any lower.
Can you have negative standards?

The actual story ain't near as entertaining as the one you're gonn'a make up.
My understanding is that the fell'a that owns the property is an artist/sculptor.
I would say it's basically his way of hanging an "Open for Business" sign out in front of the office.

As for negative standards...
Oh ya, that's absolutely possible.
We hit bottom long ago and have since been laboring to extend the depth.

That's what I kinda thought.
I naturally saw the plane first and went "Holy cow!"
but then I saw the bikes... and took a closer look at the plane.

My story.
A novice pilot runs into trouble on a training flight.
He manages to semi-safely end the flight.
Sure he's up in a tree, but hey! He's alive!
He unbuckles his belt, opens the door, and falls to his death.

Maybe not the happiest of endings, but it's funny.
Well maybe not for the pilot.

As for negative standards...
Oh ya, that absolutely possible.
We hit bottom long ago and have since been laboring to extend the depth.

Good thing I brought a shovel.

Well, I guess no one said you were cooking for one. But, I assumed that Crash was back at school and if there were a hot babe, you would have posted pictures.

Ummmmm NO.

:sad2: Yep... you fit in perfectly.

Welcome to the club. :thumbsup2

What he said.

Once again Monday has made an appearance. At least this past weekend wasn't as activity filled for me. was able to sit and watch a soccer practice on Saturday and watch DS in his final evaluation day for basketball. Although not official yet, I have it on good authority that he will invited to the bantam elite camp in July which you put him amongst the top 40 14 year olds in the province. Pretty proud of him!

Congrats to your son and you are rightly proud.

I would make something up instead. Cool picture but it needs a better story. Maybe something involving Amelia Earhart?

I give up.
Some of you (you know who you are) coerced me into coming here.
I thought I'd get the lay of the land and read through the previous 100 or so odd pages.
(Emphasis on "odd")

I read the first 10 or so... then gave up.
None of it really makes any sense (Yes Andy, I know... You told me so.)
which is fine by me.

So I'm just jumping in (with water wings of course) and seeing what happens.

I'm pkondz.
I run the Caption Contest thread on the photo boards where I see some of you
plus I've got a TR going where some of you have also shown up....
So...

voila.

Welcome Pkondz! For some reason I thought you were already in the club, but glad to have you finally join us!

'Morning all...
I decided to go out driving the other day to check out a couple of sites in my home state that I have always known were there but just hadn't gotten around to taking in. I may have to tuck a bit of that excursion into the TR that no one is reading (well almost no one, but I generally deserve that). Anyway, here's one of the more interesting things I ran across...

Charlie Brown only had to deal with Kite eating trees.

Forgot to mention, yesterday was the hottest day in April ever in Miami. Temp reached 96 degrees and a feel like of 103. Cooling off today, we will only reach 93 which ties the record for this date. Have a feeling it is going to be a bear of a summer so be prepared if you are heading to Florida.

Welcome aboard pkondz! I see the others are making you regret this decision already.:thumbsup2

Three Europeans came to America to hunt bears.
One from Hungary, one from Czech Republic, one from Slovakia.
They are surprised in the middle of the night and attacked by not just one, but several bears.
A mother and cubs and a male, probably the father of the cubs.
The Hungarian and Slovakian manage to escape and high tale it to the ranger's camp.
The ranger grabs his rifle and goes with the two survivors back to the camp.
There is no sign of the third hunter.
The ranger immediately shoots the father bear.
"How did you know which bear to shoot?" Demands the hunters.
"Simple." Says the ranger. "Czech's in the male."

And you're returning the favor! :sad2:

I must admit, I do feel dumber now.
Although the bar was already pretty low in that regard.

Unofficial DIS Dad motto: Yep, we're idiots.

Being from the North, I can categorically state that such temperatures as you mention are inherently impossible.

Thanks Mark.
And yes, it's not like I don't get enough abuse already from my TR. :sad2:

And you're returning the favor! :sad2:

When visiting, always make sure to pee in your host's pool.

That's my motto too! I'm so excited!
I think.

Ok...
It's a picture from one of Groot's family albums. That's Uncle Suranch, He was trying to get some shuteye but a big ol' housefly kept disturbing his slumber. Being in a state of half hibernation he swatted the pest and fell right back asleep. don't think he'll even notice where it landed until the next time he passes by a mirror.

Is that where all the heat got off to.
It was in the 40s here last night. Pleasant enough, but very un-Carolina for April.
Not that I miss it much, but you can send the excess back up this way if you'd like.

Has Fed been in your area recently?

If Fed had wanted that plane downed, I doubt seriously I'd have been able to find the wreckage.

And yes, it's not like I don't get enough abuse already from my TR. :sad2:

An abusive TR?
Something I should be checking into perchance?
Hummmmmm...

When visiting, always make sure to pee in your host's pool.

Precisely why I don't have a pool.
(well, that and they're expensive, a pain to look after and don't return their value on resale, but that's all beside the point).

That's my motto too! I'm so excited!
I think.

No, no... don't think.
Expends entirely too much energy.

Now drinking... that's more productive.

That's only because you are in the Peg.

Doesn't make it not true.

An abusive TR?
Something I should be checking into perchance?
Hummmmmm...

Better hurry. Wait much longer and you won't be able to catch up on the contest.
Unless you don't like Wunderbars... or similar...

Precisely why I don't have a pool.
(well, that and they're expensive, a pain to look after and don't return their value on resale, but that's all beside the point).

My wife wanted a pool.
I told her how much they were.
She said I could work more overtime.
I told her they required maintenance.
She said everyone would pitch in.
I told her they don't increase the value.
She said she wanted it anyway.
I told her no. No way. No how.
She tilted her head a bit.

So now we have a pool.
Guess who does all the maintenance?

Actually, there is a silver lining.
"Honey. I got you your pool. Oh. By the way, I'm buying a motorcycle and taking a solo trip to Disney."

She let me.

No, no... don't think.

Hunh?
(How's that?)

Surprisingly we haven't had a heat wave yet, only 2 days over 90. Last year we had already had 100+ degree days by now.
Going to be near 90 today but tomorrow barely gonna reach 70. Gotta love Texas schizophrenic weather.

Been a few days. DD got home from school last Thursday and that throws the house into a tail spin. So much better when there is only 1 of the female species in the domicile. Thank the maker that my Hawks finally put Nashville to rest - real quiet Preds fans in the office today.

CJ - Will be praying for you with DD's trip but as you referenced when they get to this age got to let them go a bit, hope they paid attention to some of what we teach and be there to dust them off occasionally.
Randall got 2 more trips booked for page 1:thumbsup2 June 12-14 Pop & July 14-20 Caribbean Beach/Pop. It was Great seeing you on our last trip always a great time:dancer:
Well done!
While I enjoy cooking and often do just cook for myself, who said I was cooking for one last night?

Happy Monday. Hope all had a good day. I've got two weeks at the office, so I'm busy downloading podcasts. :lmao:

Another weekend done which means we are that much closer to heading to the World! :car:

Way too much to get done in the office before that and not sure how I'll get it all done.

But, it is a cloud that finally has a silver lining.

'). Anyway, here's one of the more interesting things I ran across...

The plane in the tree has an easy explanation. But, how did those bicycles get there? :crazy2:

Great. I'll be there in June with the in-laws, no touring plans, and no FP. I just keep saying - it's a free vacation.

Unofficial DIS Dad motto: Yep, we're idiots.
?

I thought that motto was just for the DisDads from Delaware. :rotfl:

Is that a man law proposal? Should we go there?

I imagine if CJ had those four for dinner, then there would be lots of pictures. Also, glad to hear your not as dumb anymore. :lmao:

You Da' man Ron!
Three trips so far this year (or is it four already and I missed one or more).
It certainly something for us to aspire to.

This will be our 2nd and 3rd trip for the year, with 2 more later in the year dates TBA.:confused3 I will be accomplishing a milestone next trip, earned all 7 Magic Band colors, I'm not sure if any of the Dads have already reached this milestone:dancer:. Making a DisDad & Commando Club presence almost 10% a year:thumbsup2
