Official 2015 Disneyland Half Marathon Thread.

It was a local one - not done by Clif. The guy who was leading our group was running his fifth half and it was his first as a pacer. He had a "veteran" running with him to keep on pace. We talked a lot about the race, but honestly - I never thought to ask about hydration stops.

I ended off falling of the pace group, but kept with a bunch of runners going for the same time and we kind of paced ourselves. We didn't hit the mark, but we weren't SUPER far behind it. Maybe four minutes? I looked up the bib of the pacer and he finished nearly 8 minutes ahead of the time they were pacing at.

I would definitely go with a pace group again. But I definitely know what questions to ask now, and to see how they are following pace and how they pace out.

Thanks for the information! I will certainly ask those questions, as well. I was hoping to attach myself to a pace group. I tend to suck it up better when I run with a group. :)

One other thing I forgot to mention! This was my first race using RaceDots...magnets that hold your bib on so you don't have to use safety pins. They were a pain to get on but they worked really well! No more pinholes in my shirts. Thanks to @FFigawi for the recommendation. :)

I too give the thumbs up on the Race Dots they work great have used them for a few races now no problems. Bought a set for my husband too. And bonus no pin holes !!

Finished my second half marathon today! Didn't get the time I wanted, but I was overall really happy with the run. I really enjoyed the course, learned a lot of things and came in two minutes faster than my last half (with my longest run since my first half being ... five miles last weekend). It was an impulse registration and I'm very glad I did it.

Congrats on the new PR!

Congrats on the PR even though the conditions weren't great! Nice medal too.

Intersting that is was only his fifth half but I guess you have to start somewhere. I would be so nervous if I had to do that for people though.

@Keels congrats on a new PR! Frustrating about the pace group but it definitely sounds like a valuable learning experience for you.
Well done on your finish :thumbsup2

You're very lucky in the US with your bling. Over here it's very rare to find a race with both a t-shirt AND a medal (especially in the under half marathon distance) - more often than not, participating in a 10k gets you neither. The medals that we do get are just small traditional round ones. And we don't really have 10 milers. Think running events in the US 10 years ago :rotfl:
Thank you! I agree, 10- miles is really not a common distance, which is a bummer - I think that and the 10K are my favorite distances to run. And yeah, this is one of the better non-Disney medals I've gotten! :)

Yes, I so agree! I kept meaning to try them out ahead of time with an old bib on the treadmill but kept forgetting - but once they were on and I had them in place they performed perfectly and I never worried about them. :thumbsup2 Makes me want a few more sets!

Way to go Keels!! I only have one experience with a pace group and that was my last half...they were pacing way too fast as well. I think that's what threw me and ultimately caused me to fall back and not reach my goal. I have a hard time running in a group too though...especially if I am staying directly behind someone.

OAN, I did an 8-mile training run this weekend that was supposed to be 9 miles. I was reminded that I can't eat or drink just anything the day before a long run. I paid for it dearly on this one. I have one more half scheduled in May before DDD, then I think it's time for a little rest. This is the longest training period I've ever done without a long break. We started training for Dopey last July and I haven't really let up since.

Which Race Dots did you get? I ordered the skull & crossbones but didn't try them yesterday for the 10k. Hopefully no more crooked bibs for me.
Interested in how much you liked them....were they hard to remove as well and put back in the plastic holder?
Any issues during your run?

I was really excited that this race had pace groups at pretty much ever 5-minute group. This would be the first chance I ran with a pace group!! I got in the corral with the pace I wanted to run and was really excited. I was the only one that had run a half previously (other than the pacers), so that also got me pumped up.

Unfortunately - they were pacing too fast (I'm talking a legit 8 minutes faster than what the plan was) and then they blew through the first two hydration stops ... and, I just wasn't on board with that. I started running with an older guy who has MS (he was AMAZING), and he asked if I was tracking our splits or anything. When we hit the third hydration stop, I checked. And yup. We were pacing WAY too fast.

Congrats again Keels. Another half in the books.
Sorry about your pacer. I've only run with a pace group twice and the first one was like a gazelle taking us out way too fast at MCM and led to a poor result for me, and the 2nd one was at WDW Marathon this year and she and her group were A-W-E-S-O-M-E. She knew the course, kept us on pace and informed.

Seems like 5 halves is not very experienced to be a pacer. I've always thought it would be more.

Cool medal. Looks like it might weigh down that display rod you are working on.

I have two 5-packs (which I see are now discontinued) - one black set and one pink and green set. I like the black and white polka-dot set...that is the other one I'm thinking of getting. Love the Black Pearl one!

They weren't hard to remove at all and they stayed in place perfectly - absolutely no issues during my run at all. The hardest part was getting them, and the bib, into place before the race.

Pink set! Looking at this I didn't really get the top left one into place very well...

Anyone signing up for WDW Marathon weekend today?
No. Sad about it! :(

On the other hand...I'm reading about people who used the link to register early yesterday and it sounds like their registrations are getting canceled (and I'm sorry, but rightfully so - not fair to everyone who didn't have the link early :confused3). It's going to be a mess.

Yea, I'm a little sad too! But then I remind myself that I have DDD and W&D...so I can't complain.
Wow! At least we don't have to deal with the registration stress.

I saw on IG where someone was able to register early at the RunDisney booth at another race expo. I didn't know they let people do that. Same price as regular registration and I think without the active fees.
