Anaheim Plaza Hotel?

Has anyone stayed at the Anaheim Plaza hotel recently? We stayed there a couple of years ago for two nights and it suited the job. We were in the parks open to close and only needed a place to sleep. It was old and showing it's age, TV didn't really work (but we were too tired for that), but it was clean, quit (at least our room was), the pool was huge, and it was close to the park. I was thinking of staying there again for a little longer in October. Staying there will let us have an extra day in the park and a couple extra sit down meals in the park. I'm now reading all these horrible reviews about the place. I don't mind run down, but I can not handle dirty and overly broke down. I read some reviews about windows not opening, heat and AC not working, and having no hot water. That combination would just frustrate the hell out of me. I just thought I'd ask before I reacted too fast and changed our plans. BTW I got the room reserved (with free cancelations) for $65 a night this time, so it was a super good deal. I know, "you get what you pay for," but last time it wasn't that bad.

I doubt most people differentiate between run down and dirty. If the furniture has scratches they'll say dirty. Plus, if a place has let the sheets go threadbare do you really think they're making sure the tile grout is replaced when cracked and shower curtain gets replaced? And if they're not keeping up the floor and fixtures in the bathroom, it's not going to look clean.

I've heard they tend to sneak in some extra fees at that place upon checkout. That low rate can turn into something else so watch your final bill closely.

I read about people paying hidden fees too. I heard the place got bought out, so maybe that's why things are different from when I stayed there. I better find something new quick before prices start going crazy. Too bad, I was excited about the extras we were going to be able to do this time. We aren't going until October, so hopefully prices aren't too high yet.

I've read from other forum users that the rooms vary a lot. We stayed there a few years ago and it wasn't so bad, and we didn't have any price issues either. But if it has new management, I don't know. I think you'd probably be fine if you're going to be in the parks most of the day.

That being said, my favorite cheap place to stay is the Quality Inn on Katella. I bet you can get a similar rate. They also have free breakfast, which includes some hot items. It is walkable, just walk through the Grand to DTD. Check into it, we've never had a bad stay. It's also older, but no cleanliness issues, and they're very friendly.

Thanks! I'll look into them. We stayed at super 8 on Katella on our first trip 4 years ago. We planned only 3 weeks in advance over spring break. Got the room for only $48 a night! I thought it was going to be awful, but was completely surprised. It wasn't bad at all. Just kind of a long walk to run back to the room for anything. It was just really nice to stay so close at anaheim plaza. Thanks again for the recommendation.

I stayed here in July of 2014. I thought it was quite nice. We were on the 2nd floor of Building 5. We booked through jetBlue airlines and we didn't pay a parking fee. I did hear others being charged a fee though. I would stay here again.

Thanks! That's reassuring. I looked at my reservation and it actually says it includes parking! It really is a great price that I got. I'm keeping the reservation for now, but keeping my eyes open for something else that might pop up. Who knows how many people will change their reservations after the new Hilton and Marriott open too. So maybe another good deal will come along then.

I was just there last weekend and have stayed a few times prior and have a few more trips coming up. Yes, it's old but we have never had a problem. I especially like that the grounds are so spread out and peaceful. While their staff isn't overly friendly, they've always been efficient and I have never had any trouble.

ETA: I have noticed that sometimes I get charged for parking, and sometimes I do not. It's such a small amount (less than $5 a night) that I don't really worry it much. Also they let us leave the car until midnight the day of checkout, which can be a real plus.

Thanks! That's sounds about how it was when we were there. It was old and worn, but clean, cheap, and close. We had no issues, all we needed was a room that felt nice to sleep in. The pool was big and we even watched the fireworks from it one night when we left early. Thank you for putting my apprehension at ease.

We stayed here for one night in 2011, and it was not somewhere I'd stay again. Run down AND dirty (and yes, they are two different things). I paid less than $40 per night, and that was in the middle of July. Honestly, though, I probably wouldn't stay again, even for that price. Especially when the last several times we've gone I've paid $65 a night for the Anaheim Marriott Suites which has a separate bedroom, and is extremely clean. Not as close, sure, but well worth it for the hotel upgrade for us.

We stayed there in June 2014 for two nights. We liked having two connecting rooms for a relatively low rate. However, there were a lot of negatives. In one room, the bathroom door didn't close unless you really pulled on it, them you couldn't get it open. DS got stuck in there one night and his aunt was asleep in the room. He didn't want to yell or bang on the door. Luckily he had his phone in his pocket and called me in the next room. He pushed and I pulled and we finally got the door open! We were on the second floor and I found ants in my shoes in the morning. The microwave in one room didn't work. It was just an annoying experience and we don't care to stay there again.

$65 is a good price. How far in advance did you book?

Gosh, you guys aren't making this any easier. Haha. Well, I appreciate the input. Looks like I have some research to do this week. We aren't going until October, hopefully prices aren't getting crazy yet. At least I have a room reserved and if I end up staying there and it's bad, Ill have the extra money to spend doing extras at Disney. It can't be as bad as when I stayed in Belize and ants decided to make a nest in our backpack while we were out getting dinner.

One of the best things about a Disneyland vacation is that most of the time is usually spent at Disneyland. It is nice to have a good place (close too) to come back to after a long day, but at least you're not hanging out in the hotel all day. Also, I've heard the rooms really vary, so if your room is awful, you could always ask for a different one.

I have stayed here 3 times so far, the most recent time being earlier this week. The first time was about 5 years ago and I stayed in a regular room. The fridge and room were very large, bathroom nice & clean, but the carpet was filthy and the mattresses looked and felt very old. I decided to try it agin in this past February and again this week, but this time in a "deluxe" room. The deluxe was much, much nicer than the regular one I had stayed in previously, but since it has been years, the regular rooms could be better now. Overall, pros: large rooms, a safe, free parking, large bathroom with double sinks outside, the staff is nice, the walk is very short, big fridges, comfy beds with clean bedding. Cons: carpet is not that clean, you have to pay for wi-fi if you want it, water pressure is just ok. I am a huge ho-Jo fan and usually stay there, but since they haven't had any discounts lately I can't justify spending $200 a night there. I would definitely stay at the Anaheim Plaza again.

We've stayed twice, both times about 7 - 10 years ago. The first time I stayed with a couple of friends and we split the cost of the room. I think we paid $50/night. It was fine, no complaints and we were close. The second time was pretty bad and we said we'd never stay again. The water pressure was terrible and the temperature would run hot or cold and wouldn't be consistent during a shower. It was super frustrating! However, we are booked there for a December trip this year because of the $65/night rate. I'm pretty cheap when it comes to hotels, but I love staying walking distance to the parks, so hopefully we'll have good luck this time.

CasandraC - may I ask you for your review from your October 2015 stay? Thanks!

Since this post is from May, the news came out that the Anaheim Plaza is closing down (no specific date announced) to have it totally torn down and replaced by a new 4 star Hotel. SO I would take into consideration the "old" issues, and that the owners have no real reason to fix issues for the short time it remains open. Is it worth it if you get a low price and looking for basics, that is for you to decide....
