Morning fellow GF fans! :goodvibes

Hey Maxie ! I am a slowpoke this morning. .lol..so forgive me for being a scrabble slacker in our games! !...all caught up now though. ..I am surprised that you have had that kind of booking issue at the Hilton...maybe there is a 3 night minimum due to its proximity to DTD...I have seen the 2 or 3 night minimum policy in certain resort areas that we have visited...but that wasn't the case for us ...Your Disney math isn't gonna help with this policy!! :earseek:...lol...

Btw..see ya soon!! :thumbsup2

loveshak What a crazy dream!! Didn't mean to give you nightmares!!...lol...Hey...maybe its not a dream....but yet another new policy...lol!!!!!

On a lighter. .and food oriented note....been reading good things about that BOG breakfast! ! So excited that we were able to snag an ADR...thsnks again abk :thumbsup2

Hope you are all having a super Sunday...:earsgirl: ...preppy GF gal....who is thinking about that BOG breakfast....
Hi Blue. There wasn't a minimum stay, it was explained to me that they cancel the whole reservation and rebook, the rates have gone up since I booked and I would have to pay the new rate...that's the policy and they were sticking to it. Disney used to just subtract the dates and not cancel the whole ressie. Now Disney is canceling and rebooking, sometimes the dates are still available that's why there are reports of peeps changing with no trouble. The closer to your dates the harder it will be to do. No amount of Disney math will help with this new policy...will just have to apply the Disney math to the 4 Seasons. ::yes::

My husband questioned whether Blue's experience might be the result of some newbie that doesn't know how things work. We have had quite a few experiences where we would get some idiot on the phone who would try to tell us something we knew was wrong. After hanging up and calling back, we would get someone else that knew what he/she was doing, and we got everything done as we wanted. I REALLY hope this isn't a legitimate policy change! I suppose I am afraid that it truly is a change because the economy has supposedly recovered. We all know that Disney has been lowering the discount amounts:( Your rant is totally warranted Mickeynut because I think most of us are right there with you! Don't mess with our Disney vacations....the customer is always right!

I have come across a lot of CMs who have given me incorrect information and when I first read about this new policy, I was hoping this was one of those times as I have read many posts about guests getting the wrong information from CRO. I thought maybe the CM didn't know what he/she was talking about, but after seeing other threads/posts about this change the last few days (and seeing Blue's experience), it seems to be true :(.

BTW.....your avatar is too cute....I smile every time I see it as your doggie is adorable :goodvibes.

You should be able to be grandfathered as we were due to this being a new policy...

MickeyNut Well said....totally agree!

Dispro Sadly..this was not a fluke...or the case of having an unknowledgeable CM...there are two other threads right here on the resort forums about the same issue....:headache: ....I feel that this is just not good customer service...which is supposed to be the cornerstone of the Disney foundation...I truly hope that this is a policy that is not here to stay...

I hope anyone who booked prior to this new policy is grandfathered in as it wouldn't be fair to apply that change to those who booked prior to this going into effect. But then again, I'm sure there are people who have booked (and are booking) since the new policy was put into place that aren't being told about this :sad2:. I'm with you in hoping this change isn't here to stay.

Again, I just want to say this is crazy! I reread your first post about what you wanted to do with your reservation to make sure I understood that all you were trying to do was take 2 nights off - not change weeks or add days - because it is that unbelievable to me that you already have the discounted rooms booked so how can they say they don't have the rooms?? That only makes sense if you wanted to add days and they didn't any more "discount rooms" available. But even that I would find annoying! But to take days off and lose the discount?? Absurd!

I agree, it's very crazy!!!

I am scared to know what else they have changed... :(

I have thought about this, too. There have been a lot of changes lately and unfortunately, not for the better (IMO) :(.

What is happening now is they are canceling your ressie and rebooking...if the dates are available with your discount you can still get it, but if it's not you are losing the discount altogether. It is standard practice in real world hotels, but it shouldn't be at Disney when they make you plan so far in advance...they can't have it both ways. I think they will have a lot of cancellations, I can't see many rebooking at rack rate. This happened to us one year, we had four nights booked at DTD Hilton, plans changed and I wanted to take off two nights and the price was higher for the two than the four so I cancelled and stayed elsewhere.

Hi maxie

ITA.....having to book so far in advance for ADRs, FPs, etc, they should be more flexible with changes. That was one of the things I always loved about Disney, very easy to make changes, cancel, etc. Now they are just making it more difficult for guests, which I think will have a negative effect on them because most people will not rebook and pay more money if they have to shorten their trip and are told they can't due to no availability.

And it does make sense if you are trying to add days or change the time you are there but it seems like a crazy policy if you are taking days off a trip. If they consider it a reservation cancellation and then a rebooking, wouldn't there then be a room available because you just cancelled your discounted room to take off the two days? So then it would be available again? Haha - I guess that not how the logic works!

Exactly my thoughts (as well as others). If it would be available once you take the days off, then just modify the current reservation! It does get tricky, however, if you are booked with a discount and the discount is expired. If you had to cancel and rebook, the discount is lost due to it not being available anymore. I'm just afraid more changes are on the way and other reservation modifications will go away like being able to change dates, resorts, etc after a discount has expired.

loveshak What a crazy dream!! Didn't mean to give you nightmares!!...lol...Hey...maybe its not a dream....but yet another new policy...lol!!!!!

That's the scary part......I don't think this is the last of the changes .

I just think there will be so many cancellations that they will eventually change it back. There are too way too many choices of hotels in the area. I don't think very many people book hotels that far in advance except for Disney.

ITA!

You would think it would work that way, but apparently it's not. I just think there will be so many cancellations that they will eventually change it back. There are too way too many choices of hotels in the area. I don't think very many people book hotels that far in advance except for Disney. I always wait until my plans are set in stone before booking in the real world.

I really hope you are right about them changing it back! We did have to book Beaches Turks and Caicos pretty far in advance because the really nice rooms sell out, but they don't charge you if you change your reservation up a bit. How can anyone know exactly what the dates will be since you don't book flights that far in advance?? And I assumed they were making adjustments like lowering the discount amounts because the economy is improving, but they just said on a news program that the median household income (adjusted for inflation) has been the same since 1996! So Disney is raising prices (maybe just adjusting for inflation) but then they are reducing discount amounts or in the cases we are discussing even saying there isn't a discount available! So are they trying to force us all to move down a hotel grade and reserve GF for only the truly elite...and by that I mean the truly wealthy people like celebrities, professional athletes, etc.

This is my last rant about this policy change because I know this is supposed to be a GF thread. But that's the problem! I don't want to give up my GF trips because I love it so much. I just hope that the strategy of booking a room early and then having them apply the discount when it is released still works. I guess I will find out soon.

I shouldn't have read this thread last night before bed because I had this crazy dream that I was at WDW and was standing in the single riders line. However, I was confused because the line went to a desk and the regular line was wrapped around to the beginning of the ride. When I got to the desk I told the woman that I was a single rider so was just waiting in that line. She said there was a new policy a and that I had to pay $27 to stand in that line. I was so mad! And I told her I was getting tired of all these charges Disney is adding to their vacations and I wasn't paying $27!! And so I left...hahaha!

:upsidedow To funny about the dream!! I had one awhile ago, can't remember it now. Woke up thinking, well, that was strange, lol!

Good thing I rarely change my dates. Occas in summer I'll decide to come in a day early, but that's about it. Sometimes life gets in the way, we never know when we may have to shorten a trip. Hope this policy doesn't last.

BTW.....your avatar is too cute....I smile every time I see it as your doggie is adorable :goodvibes.
Thanks! He makes all of us happy too:) We've totally thought about trying to get him registered as a therapy dog so we can take him to Disney with us, but I don't think I want my health record to say that I have emotional problems that require my dog's presence to keep me under control -lol- even though his cute face really is great when you are upset about something (like new Disney policies). It is interesting to know that they have a facility on site at GF to accommodate the service dogs however...I think that's great.

I may have to drop 3 nights from my Sept GF trip (I'll know in a week or so), and if there's trouble keeping my bb rate for the rest of my stay in the process, I'll quite happily move to Four Seasons! I stayed at both resorts last fall, and love them both for different reasons. Talked it over with DH and we'd spend less time at Disney parks and restaurants as a result and more time at Universal, the fabulous 4S pools, and some other offsite activities, but DH prefers that anyway. Either way will be a great trip in my book! :sunny:

Wow. I will be interested to see what happens since every time we have tried to book a BB closer to the end of a calendar year, they never seemed to have anything available. I am hoping for the best for you (and everyone else). If Disney continues with this policy, I don't think they have any idea what will happen. One family's reservation cancellation may be a drop in the bucket, but the cumulative effect could be significant!

just want to chime in to say that this new policy is complete nonsense! in the past few years, our dates have been pretty set in stone. but previously, we had several trips where we made changes. sometimes, we changed the same trip multiple times. i will be furious if i am ever in a situation where i need to remove days and am told no! we travel a lot and i have never seen this at other hotels. we love disney, but the kids are older now and there are many other places where i can spend my money!

My TA and I are calling tomorrow. Wish me luck...... ;) This will definitely make us think twice before doing a BB. If they won't let us take days off we'll just cancel. I guess they are banking on booking our room for 7 days if we cancel?

I will update everyone tomorrow. Fingers crossed. I am so sorry you had this happen!

I feel like they control all my plans!:(

It sure seems like it, doesn't it? :sad2:

I can see how he helps when you are upset about something as his face is just so cute and loving :goodvibes. That is interesting about the GF having a facility to accommodate service dogs, I didn't know that.

I hope you don't have to drop nights, but if you do, I hope it works out that you are able to keep the discount :wizard:.

Disney is a great place to vacation, but you are right.....there are plenty of other places to visit if push comes to shove ;).

I was hoping the RO discount announced today would go through November and not just through August. But the good news is at least GF was included in the 30% tier.

I was initially thinking that I would call and add FD and then if RO came out for November change to that discount. But I really don't want FD so I think I'm just going to rely on historical Fall discounts and stay optimistic that a RO offer will be released in August for the Fall!

Can anyone tell me if the vanity area of the bathrooms has a door or a curtain? (GF resort..not villas)

Thanks

Wow. You're really on top of those discounts...I had just checked yesterday and there weren't any new ones! Of course, it goes through October 3rd and we are going the 7th:( They haven't put up a new AP discount yet so maybe it will go further into October. Thanks for the heads up on the new RO discount. And you will save a lot more money with the RO discount than the free dining since you are staying in RPC.

Haha - I was only on top of the discounts because I was following the Free Dining thread which was blowing up this weekend, especially last night, as rumors started circulating about the offer being announced this morning! I couldn't find a thread about RO discounts so figured I'd tag along with the FD crowd thinking they might be announced at the same time!! And they were...except RO is only through August...argh! More watching and waiting LOL!

Hopefully a good AP discount comes out for you! I have a feeling AP and RO for October - December won't come out until July or even late August.
