WDW Wishes 2015 Wedding

I love the idea of a California Grill reception! You really can't beat the view! This is one I would have definitely considered too had we had a smaller guest count. I wouldn't worry much about not having tasting. California Grill is so good, I'm sure anything they serve would be great.

I know, right. I love their food too! :)

Alright, I have been a bit MIA because I have been planning our site visit and trip to the Bridal Showcase.

Site Visit:

I wanted to stay 3 nights at Disney so we could try out every resort level (Value, Moderate, Deluxe) and do the magical express, but work got in the way. :( So, we are doing 2 nights. We are staying at the Art of Animation resort standard view one night and Animal Kingdom Lodge savannah view the second night. I want my DF to be able to tell our guests the differences between the resorts without having to defer to me lol (I used to work for Disney). We are visiting Ariel's, Living Seas Salon and the Train Station.

Bridal Showcase:

I am not dragging my DF to the bridal showcase so my cousin and my sister are going with me. lol We are meeting my mom and my other mom (mother-in-law) down there. I have also set up my first bridal appointment at Collection Bridal. I'm so excited! We are staying at the Waldorf Astoria so I can see if we would recommend this hotel to our guests who are looking for a 5 star non-Disney experience.

Alright, that's it for now. :)

What fun to stay at so many different resorts on your trip! I like the idea of staying at multiple levels so you know what to recommend to your guests. Hope the site visit goes well!

Color me jealous that you get to go to the bridal showcase, that's so exciting and I bet it'll be great to get a jumpstart on your planning on the DFTW side!

I'm excited to do the different resorts and about the site visit. I got really good deals. I was on orbitz everyday. lol I got a lot of my deals from mouse savers. What a great resource. :)

I will be taking lots of pictures at the showcase, so I will post them when I get back. :)

Site Visit Update:

The site visit was AWESOME!!!

Day 1:
I convinced my DF for us to do a road trip (I love them) down to Disney because it's only 6:30 hours away. I allocated 8 hours for the trip so just in case there was some traffic and plus we wanted to clean up before meeting Michelle for our site visit. Well, that did not happen. lol We got stuck behind a fire on the highway for 1:30. . . :( I was sure we were going to be late. But, we made it with 10 minutes to spare, albeit tired and a bit disheveled. :)

We finally meet Michelle, whom I have been emailing for months. She is great and really give you the Disney magic, so hopefully she will be some of you guys first point of contact with DFW.

Picture time!!! :) :) :)

Ceremony Venues:

We first visited the Wedding Pavilion. OMG, it's beautiful from the pictures, but seeing it in person is breathtaking. The details and just the overall feeling you get when you walk into it is amazing. We than visited the train station venue. When we went up the staircase to the train station and saw the Magic Kingdom in the background, my DF said, "Ok, I get it." lol He thought it was spectacular. Michelle than told us that the carriage would start at the castle and go down main street to arrive at the train station with my DF in the fire truck. :) That just put this venue over the top. The whole Cinderella feel.

Michelle took us to the California Grill to see as a reception site. We would have to use the existing seating, but to me because this is a fine dining restaurant, everything already looks so elegant to me. We aren't sure yet if we had the option of changing the table cloths and chairs, but Michelle said she would let us know. There is an extra charge to add a dance floor. This site is my DF's favorite. He loves the ceiling to floor windows and the light that comes in since we plan on having a morning wedding.

On a side note, we actually had a 7:30pm dining reservation here the night we arrived, but I cancelled it the day before because I was sure my DF would just want to relax. But, after seeing the remodeled look of the restaurant and how lovely it was (I had forgotten, I hadn't been there in 4 years), I tried to get our reservation back, with no luck. After our site visit was up, Michelle secretly made a call to the California Grill and got us 5:30pm reservations. When we arrived at our table, there was a typed note that had our names on it and thanked us for a wonderful site visit (with Mickey confetti scattering the table). It was great! My DF wondered if this was a last minute thing or from our previously cancelled reservation. I told him, Michelle did this. He said he definitely feels special and the Disney magic. lol

Ok, back to the site visit. We went to a couple other sites that we decided weren't for us (Living Seas Salon and Ariel's). If you guys want me to post pictures of those two, let me know and I will post them. :)

Art of Animation Resort:

After we finished our site visit my DF and I checked into Art of Animation resort. I wish I took pictures, but I didn't. :( I'm so sorry. It is a very kid friendly resort. We walked in and got our bands to open our door and charge things to our room, which might I say is really cool. If you don't have a car, it's A LOT of walking. We were in the last building with Ariel on the building. We arrived into the room and it was very cute. You enter the room from the outside. The bed's seem to be double beds, I don't think they are full size (I'm 5'10 so my feet kind of hung off the bed). I would say, if you are two adults with no kids, I would not recommend staying at the value resorts. I LOVE Disney, but these resorts are not for me. lol That's just my opinion. :)

Animal Kingdom Lodge:

Once we checked out of Art of Animation we went to breakfast at 'Ohana and than checked into Animal Kingdom Lodge. OMG. . . we arrived at 1pm and were able to check in. Elyne (person who checked us) was awesome. Their systems were down and so we were checking in the old way through paper. lol As we were conversing, the systems came back up and she said our room was ready. She moved our room into the main building so we didn't have to do that much walking. We walked into our room and my DF immediately saw the difference. Remember, I wanted my DF to see the differences between the resorts so he could be more informed. He said the cushiony beds and than he opened the curtains. There was a giraffe eating off of the tree in front of our window. He stared and kept saying, "There is a giraffe in front of our window." lol I have to say, AKL is a beautiful resort and it was amazing seeing ostriches and zebras outside of our window when we woke up.

Of course there are differences in the value and deluxe resorts, but that's why there are levels. I think the Art of Animation is very kid friendly, but so is the AKL, just with better beds. lol I had never stayed at the AKL, but I now know why some people do not stay anywhere else because it's the only resort that gives you animals that are free roaming and makes you feel like you are looking out on the savannah's of Africa.

Ok, that's my update. . . If you guys have any specific questions let me know or comments are always great! :) I will post my update for the Bridal Showcase next week. :)

I know it has been a while since I posted, but not a lot has happened. We just sent our contract back to Disney with our deposit. We are getting married early September, 2015 at the MK!!! YAY!!! :yay: :dancer:But, it is so soon. I wanted to get married December or next February, but the MK said no. . .lol

Anyway, I thought I found my dress while I was in Florida for the Bridal Showcase. I went to the Collection in Winter Park.

The Collection Bridal Salon Review

It was a pretty bridal boutique from the outside, but on the inside it was very cluttered. The room I was trying my dresses on in had stuff on the chair, so I couldn't sit down and had items piled in the corner. I felt like a place that sold $7,000 Vera Wang dresses and located in Winter Park should be nicer. So, if I didn't have my family there, I probably would not have had a good experience. As a result, I knew I wasn't going to buy my dress there. So, I ended up going to Bridals by Lori in Atlanta (Say Yes to the Dress Atlanta).

Bridals by Lori Salon Review

The next weekend after the bridal showcase I went here. I walked into the salon and it was gorgeous. My sales consultant Cindy was amazing. I really came to retry on the dress I loved from the other salon to make sure I still loved it and then buy it. However, Cindy told me to pick out 7 dresses and try on some other options. I said, ok. Well, I picked a dress and fell in love with it. All I can say is the Cindy was AMAZING and my changing room was a real room and not surrounded by freestanding velvet curtains like at the other salon. I will say one thing. Bridals by Lori price for the same dress was $1,200 higher than at the other salon. But, if you buy your dress on your first visit they give a 12% discount, which sort of brings it down to the other salons price. The customer service and experience here was AWESOME. I would definitely recommend this place if you are looking for what I call "the Kleinfeld" experience.

Time for pictures:

This is the dress I will be buying for the ceremony in this antique color.

I think I have written enough for this post. lol Can't wait to hear back from Disney. :mickeyjum

I just received an email from my wedding planner. We have Pamela Mattack. . . I'm so excited to start planning!!! She sent us the Save the Date email we should send to our guests with ticket discounts and hotel room rates. For some reason, I thought that our guests would get the convention center discount for tickets, instead it looks like they only get $20 off park hopper tickets. My DF and I wanted to get a one day ticket for everyone, but I think now we will have to rethink that.

So, now it's time to order invitations and my dress!!! YAY!!!

Today we received our gift from our sales consultant, Michelle. :) It was a nice hand written note and 2 vouchers to redeem our annual passes. :)

Time has been going pretty fast. We sent back our Planning Kit and scheduled our planning session for June 1st! There is not a taste testing for California Grill, so we really will just be going over the details.

Here are some of the things we are working on or trying to figure out. . . lol

Ceremony Songs:
I wanted to walk down the aisle to, So This is Love, but because we have a String Trio, the instrumental doesn't sound as good as it would with the words. Therefore, I'm changing it to A Dream is a Wish Your Heart Makes.

I also know that I want the guests to be seated to When you Wish Upon a Star. That's all I have for songs right now, but I'm sure we will figure it out. :)

Dress:
I ended up ordering my dress from a different bridal salon. I found it from an authorized salon for thousands less and immediately ordered it from them and they will ship it to me, so I'm so excited about that! :)

Guest List:
We are trying to finalize the small guest list we have. I have 25 and my DF has 25, but we are having some difficulty with not inviting people who may be important to our parents. However, I think we are good and can now order the invitations in the next couple of weeks. It was a bit more difficult than we thought.

Officiant:
I spoke to Rev. Glynn Ferguson this weekend. He was super nice and I like the way he ask his couples to write him a letter as to why they love each other and he incorporates it into the ceremony. He said if we choose him he would like to Skype with us to get more personally acquainted. I really liked that. I think we may go with him, but I like to give my DF options so he can give his opinion too. :)

Hair and Makeup:
Being an African American woman I was looking at all of the recommended make up artists on Disney's list, but I rarely saw any examples on any of there websites of doing African American women hair and make up. Therefore, I had to call many of the places. I think I will be choosing Beaute Speciale because they informed me they do the entire cast of Blackish and have artists who specialize in African American hair and make up. :)

Cake:
We have to change our cake from the projection mapping cake because our reception is early in the morning and with all of the windows in California Grill, no one would be able to see the projection. . .lol I guess that saves us money, but now we have to choose a different cake. We are working on that now. :)

Photography/Videography:
We have to use Disney for both for the ceremony, so it just makes sense to continue with Disney for the reception. We just have to figure out who we will request even though it's not guaranteed.

So far that's all of the big stuff I'm working on. I will give you another update when I have more things finalized. :)

It sounds like you are making a lot of headway with the planning. :) I have seen Rev. Glynn Ferguson in several couples' videos, and I really like him! If we weren't having a friend officiate, he's who I would have chosen.

I'm trying to get everything in order. . . I absolutely LOVE that you are using a friend. I wanted to use a family friend, but we do not have enough room to invite his wife and kids and so I would feel bad just asking him to come. . . :(

So, I am finally about to order the bridesmaids dresses. . .smh I kept going back and forth if I wanted chiffon or satin. I decided on satin and than couldn't figure out what color. lol My wonderful DF finally said, let me see the colors you are trying to choose from and he picked one. . .lol So, there it is. . . :) Here is the bridesmaid dress. Except it will be in a light blue (cornflower) to go with my antique color dress.

Next, I have ordered our welcome bags!!!
I got them from zazzle.com instead of Disney.com because they were $5 less per bag. Our bag includes our names and the date of our wedding with the picture.
upload_2015-4-26_14-51-56.png

I now have to order our invitations. They are the same as the first page of my planning journal. I'm just trying to figure out how to word RSVP for the welcome dinner and the dessert party (If we are going to put the time or not).

I sent my bridesmaids and DF's groomsman invitations to be in our bridal party. I also sent special invitations to my dad, flower girl and ring bearer from Etsy. They came out beautifully.

The next thing I was trying to figure out, if anyone knows, I have 7 people who need hair and makeup and was wondering how much a ballroom would cost to rent at the Contemporary? In order to fit everyone comfortably in the room I would need to get a villa. Has anyone rented a ballroom for this before?

I believe that is all for right now. :)

Oh, wow! Your bridesmaid dress is stunning. So elegant! I also can't get over how cute your welcome bags are! :) I wish we were doing welcome bags -- it's something we originally planned to do, but so many people are staying off property that it made them a lot more difficult.

Thank you. . . it took me a bit to figure out what dresses I wanted for my girls. . .lol I completely understand. . . I have quite a few people staying off property using their points so we (my DF doesn't know yet) will be driving around a bit. . .lol My mother in law said that instead of giving a favor this should be the favor. . . So, the extra work isn't too bad. :)

So, our invitations are ordered!!! We just finalized our proofs today and I love, love, love them. :yay: Next, I found the perfect Calligrapher for our formal, yet unconventional morning wedding. :) There isn't going to be a Mr. and Mrs. in front. Here is how our envelopes will be addressed:
upload_2015-5-4_15-22-32.png

I ordered wax seals with a rose wax seal stamp and red and gold wax to seal the back of the invitations. I ordered my DF's last name initial so that I can seal the escort cards with our last name initial. Hopefully, I don't mess up. . .lol

That's all for today. :)
