Hollywood Studios Refurb

Hmmm...

I would hope...if they were ever gonna try and pump up a specific IP to move merch/product...this would be a logical spot to do it.

I'm still gonna stick with trusting the shovels...I'm not convinced they want a huge "mass crowd" at studios...don't think they ever did.

Especially not with the money pouring into AK and the new mall being built.

I neither believe it or disbelieve it. Just wanted to say I heard it in case it happens. What do I have to lose?

The other thing I heard was that the new Star Wars rides were delayed by the movie's production delay because the new ride is going to be solely based on the new movie. They want to promote EP7 not the first six after all.

How do you "promote" a movie with rides that will open a minimum of 5 years after the movie?

I'm really interested...

I’ll stick with the theory I’ve had for a few years now…

Nothing substantial is coming to DHS regarding Star Wars or any other IP unless Burbank wants to pump in some serious bank to make it happen. Given that the crowds aren't diminishing despite the recent closings it makes me think that spending will be minimal. Translation: a gift shop mecca and maybe a themed restaurant around the IP (or IPs) of their choosing.

As Lockedoutlogic stated - trust the shovels. On a related note, let the attendance drop by five or ten points and the cranes and shovels would be at work the next day.

Gotta remember that this is the theme park that failed. The working studio concept wasn’t a bad idea but it just didn’t take off. Now they’ve got to figure out what to do with a plot of land that was never designed for heavy guest traffic, and the traffic present was to be heavily controlled (i.e. the backlot tour) in many areas. There is no hub and spoke layout here like at the other three parks so guest traffic can’t move efficiently. Put an E-ticket Star Wars attraction plus a few other items in or near Catastrophe Canyon and you’ve got a traffic jam of epic proportions. To fix the layout of the park will cost money, and a lot of it. Again unless the attendance drops there’s little motivation to re-arrange the furniture for an expansive Star Wars, Pixar or other IP presence.

With intense competition from Universal, Disney is facing a clear pressure to continue to churn out new rides. And Star Wars is their hot new property (remember they can't build Marvel rides b/c Universal already has the license in perpetuity).

And I mean promoting the Sequel Trilogy's future movies, tv shows, toys, etc. Most especially the toys. It's all about the toys ;)

I wish you were right on both points...

But I think you went 0-2

Wallrock is probably dead on...

Depressing sourpuss that he is...

Disney is clearly motivated to build, though. They're building Pandora in Animal Kingdom. They just finished rebuilding Fantasyland. They're in the middle of rebuilding Downtown Disney. They're extending the capacity of Soarin and Toy Story Mania. They're building the Frozen ride in Epcot. Things are in the works.

I also read a spy report about some FX designer working on a top secret project for Epcot right now. Could be a new ride for the closed Innoventions building, the Wonders of Life building, or simply a new fireworks show.

I wouldn't relate a capacity expansion of two attractions to a motivation to build. I and others probably share a reason why Avatar is coming in (someone is offsetting some of the costs) and revitalizing a shopping mall district isn't exactly theme park construction activity. Since Wonders of Life has been vacant for years attraction-wise I'm not holding my breath that Innoventions is going to be revamped.

It seems to me that Disney is clearly aware of the deficiencies of AK and DHS and are taking steps to improve them. Pandora is a major, major new addition. They're closing the one theater near Star Wars and building a replacement next to Tower of Terror. Why would they do that if they weren't planning on building something new there?

I agree that Disney is aware of the shortcomings of both parks, but I suspect that they don't really know what to do with DHS. Again they're going to have to rearrange the foundation to improve foot traffic if they're going to plug in big ticket items. To spend or not to spend is the question, and Wall Street doesn't want them to spend. With the stock the way it is Iger is in agreement.

the stock is at its highest and keeps going up. there will be building as permits have been filed its justwhen it will start.
universal is giving disney a run for its money

I don't see what higher stock price has to do with construction...it means they are worth more each day while doing the same or less... And building would lower the stock price as a capital expenditure...

And what metrics are you using to justify your universal stance...

I agree...and it's mind boggling how much credit they're being given for adding more track to two rides with ridiculous lines- which if anything proves that the right move is to add new attractions due to lack offerings revealed in those parks...
But it's being treated as if this is Caesar showing his divinity to the plebs with games or something...

If there's anything that the little show of big impressive movie logos that Oscar de la renta ran out the other day proved... It's that he only cares for slam dunk IP that can be banked.
That is not Avatar...no matter how many Facebook likes it got however many years Ago that was (I honestly don't remember)...
We've been through this before...that whole thing stinks like fish...since day one

Disney springs is looking more and more like "Disney goes stripmall". I'm waiting for some fire to emerge from the smoke.

And it would have been one thing for them to "mothball" wonders of life and "save it for a busy day"...
But they converted it to cheap convention space and DISASSEMBLED the rides. Why bother with those pesky things?

Tickets do not yield the profits... And therefore neither do rides...
So someone was saying something about a new ride in innoventions?
As opposed to cheap, low overhead, overpriced convention space?
