Disney Release Schedule for 2015-2017

I think Incredibles 2 is still 2018.

Overall it's not a surprising list, everything on there has already been announced. I wish there was a bit more originality but this is Hollywood and Disney and originality within a formula is about the best we can hope for. The whole "remake every animated classic" trend is boring as hell, but when the movies make a billion dollars pretty consistently, it's hard to argue that it's a bad idea. (A movie like Tomorrowland being original will probably barely break even - as the problem is that people don't come out for original ideas. If you support original ideas in moviemaking - it would be a good idea to go see this one in the theaters.)

For the PP who mentioned it, Zootopia is a Disney Animation original concept but there isn't a lot about it out there yet. Here's the synopsis from Wikipedia:

The modern mammal metropolis of Zootopia is a city like no other. Composed of habitat neighborhoods such as ritzy Sahara Square and frigid Tundratown, it’s a melting pot where animals from every environment live together — a place where no matter what you are, from the biggest elephant to the smallest shrew, you can be anything. But when optimistic Officer Judy Hopps arrives, she discovers that being the first bunny on a police force of big, tough animals isn’t so easy. Determined to prove herself, she jumps at the opportunity to crack a case, even if it means partnering with a fast-talking, scam-artist fox, Nick Wilde, to solve the mystery

Wow, they are cranking out the Star Wars awfully fast and yet the Guardians of the Galaxy sequel is taking quite a while. I don't know what that says.

It means Kathy Kennedy and Kevin Feige have their own timelines and are mutually exclusive. That's what it says.

Do you honestly think Kathy Kennedy is pushing to crank five movies out at that pace...that's not even long enough to them breathe...

Unless she's saying it with CMB's hand in the back of her head

Brad Bird said not too long ago he just started the script for incredibles 2.

Well you have the Star Wars third trilogy which is 2015,17,19. Then you have the anthology which is separate starting with rogue one in 2016, then another in 18 and 20. I'm sure we'll also see other Star Wars things come out as well. These movies also all have different directors unless JJ comes back for episode 9.

It means Kathy Kennedy and Kevin Feige have their own timelines and are mutually exclusive. That's what it says.

There is also the fact that Marvel has 5 movies on this timeline (Avengers, Ant Man, Captain America, Doctor Strange, Guardians of Galaxy 2) while Star Wars only has 3. I know what the future state of Star Wars is, with IX, plus 2 other Anthologies in 18, 19, 20... but I also know they aren't going to stop making Marvel movies, especially Avengers.

Guardians of the Galaxy was a big success, and they are getting a sequel, but that studio has a ton of other stuff to churn out as well. Going from a July 2014 release to a May 2017 sequel is a good turnaround for that franchise.

Besides the obviously cash cow that Frozen could never dream to be....they're giving (most) fans exactly what they want: more films. Something we didn't think we'd ever have again a few years ago. And waiting 3 years between horrid prequels was like insult to injury...

My reaction. Stuff I am already planning to see in bold.
  • Zootopia – I assume this is a DisneyNature movie.

Zootopia is an animated fox who is a police officer in a big animal city, or something. The next Disney Nature movie is "Born in China", and that's not listed here.

This list is proof of the dominance of Disney, the wise acquisitions, good planning, and most of all - good storytelling. Disney's movie industry and the various studios all seem to be firing on all cylinders. Avengers Age of Ultron is getting good reviews and is guaranteed to make over a Billion. When a Disney animated movie makes $200 million domestic in its entire run it is a hit. Avenger Age of Ultron will make well over $200 million opening weekend! Star Wars will also make well over a Billion. If it is as good as I think it will be, and because of the cultural standing it has, it may become the biggest movie of all time. It is possible that this time next year Avatar will be the 3rd biggest movie of all time. Anybody who complains about that list or calls it uninspired is laugh out loud funny. This list is obviously fantastic.

The only thing I would like to see is more from disney animation. I love lucasfilm, marvel, and pixar but back that up with what started this company.

Actually their production schedule is rather robust and recently very successful. Tangled and Wreck it Ralph were very good. Then they gave us Frozen and Big Hero 6 which were fantastic and both huge hits. Now they have both Zootopia (March 2016 by the director of Bolt & Tangled - I loved both) and Moana (Late 2016 by the directors of Princess & the Frog, Aladdin, and Little Mermaid) in the works. Both look very promising. I think the advances in animation with Big Hero 6 mean Moana is going to be one of the most beautiful animated films ever. They can't do much more either in volume or quality! It takes about 4 years to make a quality animated film.

Yep...that's the upside to Star Wars geeks such as me...

But man I am so skeptical... I hope Disney can see that there's a line they must hold with these...

And that is we won't be around/back if they churn out jar jar junk...or even slightly better fast and furious or transformers type junk.

The signs have been good at this point...but I don't know...

I agree...

Disney studios has put out tangled, frozen, wreck it ralph, and big hero in the last 5 years alone...

That's is a great pedigree... They are back to being a force and that is - as roy e Disney once said - at the heart of the company.

Ironically...Pixar needs to elevate its game a little...they've made money but haven't produced as good of a product if late...

I'm not worried about them...but they need slight reinvention.

Rteetz,

Not meant as a criticism, but this is concerning. You (and your generation) are the future Disney customer. Your likes will drive the next era of product. If you are representative (and I don't think you are since very few of your peers are the leading poster on a News and Rumors forum or are as literate as you) and you aren't interested in the Star Wars type movies, this is an ominous sign for us old folk who love the action adventure, CG enhanced, thriller.

I understand what it takes and the things they have been producing I get that. It just seems that there is so much more from their IPs and not much from their own animation studio.

You know I just watched my first Star Wars movie last weekend. I'm preparing myself for episode 7 because I want to see it, the trailers are intriguing to me but have never really had interest in it prior. I grew up watching disney animated movies and pixar of course I loved them and still do. I also like a few of the marvel properties but not all of them. I know Star Wars and marvel are going to make the most money but look at what frozen did. You'd think disney would want to pump out another like that. I know they have Moana and zootopia but those seem to be hidden behind all of this other stuff.
